Jamie, recently escaped from the attempt on his life, races to rescue Claire, only to find that she has been temporarily freed to serve the Governor at sea as he flees for his life. Jamie tries to barter for Claire's freedom, only to be deterred by an unexpected confession. Elsewhere, Roger and Breanna settle in to Edenton and await the arrival of baby MacKenzie. However, an unexpected encounter with another traveler puts them at odds with each other. Claire tries to come to terms with a sacrifice made out of love, while Jamie finally gets a chance to settle an old score.
