FHP at Monsterama Con Atlanta

FHP at Monsterama Con Atlanta

If you are into classic horror and fantasy and are looking for something to do this upcoming Halloween weekend, come join members of the FHP at Monsterama Con, October 27-29, 2023. Taking place at the Hilton Atlanta  - Northeast hotel, the theme for this year is "Sinbad and the Eye of the Monsterama"; guests include Patrick Wayne, Carolyn Munro, Nicholas Meyer, Alan Howarth (who will be performing his film music live Friday night), Steve Coulter, Trina Parks, and many others.

Anthony, Hanako, and Michael will be in attendance, participating in panels throughout the weekend. We will also be recording our very first LIVE podcast, discussing both the 1989 and 2019 version of Stephen King's "Pet Semetary". Our other panel appearances for the weekend are listed below.

Friday, October 27

6:30pm: Three (Stephen) Kings: The Winning Hand at the Movies in 1983 - Forty years ago, Cujo, Dead Zone, & Christine gave us King’s take on three types of horror: machine, natural, & supernatural. Could it have been that easy to scare us? (Anthony)

Saturday, October 28

10:00am: Jurassic Park at Thirty - Spielberg tapped into our childhood fantasies of dinosaurs and made them into nightmares. The almost seamless blending of CGI and practical effects brought dinosaurs to life and terrified us. (Anthony)

1:00pm: Representation in Modern Horror - M. Night Shyamalan ushered in an era of minorities in horror. We explore how representation is expressed in modern horror and the role of social awareness in terrifying today’s audiences. (Anthony, Hanako, Michael)

7:00pm: Fandom Hybrid Live: Pet Cemetery is Resurrected - Join the Fandom Hybrid Podcast as we discuss the resurrected Pet Cemetery. Does it live up to the creepiness of the original, or should it have stayed buried?

10:00pm: 1943: A Good Year for Monsters - Half-apes, werewolves, vampires, and creations were all over the silver screen in 1943. Why so many Hollywood monsters in one year, when real monsters were loose in the world? (Anthony)

Sunday, October 29

10:00am: Exorcising Our Demons: Religion in Horror - Come discuss the timeless terror of combining the sacred and the profane as we commemorate half a century of The Exorcist scaring the Hell out of us. (Anthony, Hanako, Michael)

2:30pm - Zeroversary™ Movie Watch Party (After): It Came from the Ocean! - We’re reviewing three (four?) movies about moist monsters. Join us for the follow-up to the Before panel posted on YouTube. No sharks, beasts, or leviathans permitted in the panel room. (Anthony)

Monsterama is Atlanta’s only retro horror and sci-fi convention focusing on the fantastic in cinema, art, comics, literature, and media. Ticket information can be found at this link.
