Formal programming for Infinitus announced

The Infinitus website has posted full summaries for the formal programming panels scheduled to be presented the weekend of July 15 – 18. The topics vary in range: there are topics relating to education (“Harry Potter and Virginia Tech: Studying the Phenomenon in the College Classroom” and “Teaching Harry, Exploring Difference” are a couple of examples), morality (“The Seven Deadly Horcruxes: Voldemort as a Mortal Sinner” and “The Better Man: the Morality of Youth in the Harry Potter Series”), arts and crafts (“Build a Potter” and “Magical Stitchery: Learning the Basic of Cross Stitch”) and other great panels.

I will be a first-time presenter at Infinitus, with the panel “Potterholics Non-Anonymous”; the summary can be found here on the website and also below:

Potterholics Non-Anonymous
Kat Amitrano and Hanako M. Ricks
The World of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter are magical, wonderful things. The joy this series has brought – and continues to bring – is immeasurable. Happiness such as this should always be shared. At Potterholics Non-Anonymous, we admit we are addicted to all things Harry Potter and are powerless to fight it. However, instead of recovery, we invite you to share your enthusiasm with hundreds of others. This presentation will explore the pathway of creating a supportive local network of fellow individuals who share your enthusiasm for this literary sensation. We will explore ways of promoting a new group, step through a sample format for any party, provide discussion topics which will inspire intellectual debates and curious new insight, show how to “Potter-ize” popular games for the enjoyment of party goers, and how to do it all at an affordable cost for every attendee. Whether you are a member of an already established HP Fan Group or not, this lecture could offer you something you may never have considered before.

Kat Amitrano has been a member of the Atlanta Adult Harry Potter Fan Group for 3 and 1/2 years. Although not a founding member, she has hosted and co-hosted many parties. In her spare time, she and her co-presenter, Hanako M. Ricks, travel the thrift store/Goodwill mega circuit in the Metro Atlanta area in search of discarded Harry Potter memorabilia. Their finds have helped decorate many parties.

Hanako M. Ricks is a wife, mother of three, full-time student in pursuit of a Journalism degree, and sole blogger on her website confessions of a Grown-Up Fangirl. She became a member of Atlanta HP in 2007, after meeting members of the group at her very first Dragon*Con. She is also a contributor to the Sci-Fi Party Line website and occasional guest on the SFPL podcast.

If you want to spend more time in Universal Orlando’s fantastic theme parks, you can purchase your NoaTW ticket bundled with one-, two-, four- and seven-day tickets. Pricing information is here; please email registration@infinitus2010.org with any questions.

We can sell only 1,500 tickets to NoaTW – we don’t want the Wizarding World getting overcrowded – and we expect to sell out well before Infinitus begins, so get your tickets now by modifying your registration or adding it to a new registration. Anyone with a full, single-day, two-day, Merlin’s Circle or Child registration can purchase one ticket to NoaTW.

Infinitus Hotel Update

Info from the Infinitus website :

The Royal Pacific is now sold out from Thursday through Saturday night during Infinitus, but the low Infinitus rate of $210 plus tax is still available at Portofino Bay, or you could stay at the Hard Rock Hotel for $255 plus tax per night.

Of course, any Infinitus registrants – and their friends and family – who stay at any of Universal Orlando’s three on-site hotels, including Portofino Bay or the Hard Rock Hotel, will enjoy early access to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter only at Universal Studios Islands of Adventurestarting at eight o’clock in the morning. Hotel guests also can utilize the Express Access pass on all three rides in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as well as most other rides in both Universal Orlando parks.

But we have an extra benefit for the next 75 Infinitus registrants who reserve a room at the Portofino Bay or Hard Rock Hotel – a $5 per night discount on self- or valet-parking (for up to three nights). Plus, you’ll be able to use the hotel’s shuttle buses for easy access to the conference area at the Royal Pacific Hotel, and you can self-park for free at the Royal Pacific from Thursday through Sunday if you’ve paid to valet park or self-park at either the Portofino Bay or Hard Rock Hotel.

And for all Infinitus registrants staying at the Portofino or Hard Rock Hotel during the conference, we’ll be doing a drawing on Saturday at the Ball and awarding one free night’s stay to the winner. We’ll have forms at Registration so you can make sure you’re entered to win.

Presenting at Infinitus – Suggestions Needed

Well, it has now been fully confirmed that I – along with my friend Kat – will be presenters at Infinitus. Our panel will talk about being “Potterholics” and how to start, promote and successfully run a Harry Potter meetup group. Kat and I are both members of Atlanta HP, which is an adult-only (18 and over) HP group, and this will be my very first time presenting at a convention/conference.

More details should be available on the Infinitus website over the next few weeks about this and other panels/activities that will be available during the convention.

We could use the help of other Potter fans! We are having a hard time coming up with a suitable name for our panel, so we’d like to get some input from you. Here are the titles we’ve come up with; please vote for your favorite one, or it none of them suit you, please make a suggestion. Thanks!!

Description of Panel: How to start, promote and successfully run a Harry Potter group in your town/city. We plan to provide examples of past parties that we (and others) have hosted, along with suggestions for games, group activities, etc.

It’s official: Christian Coulson scheduled to appear at Infinitus!

It has now been confirmed that Christian Coulson, who gave us our first glimpse of a teenaged Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, will be attending Infinitus.

The announcement from the Infinitus forums:

Christian will be at Infinitus throughout the weekend, including a Q&A session open to all Infinitus registrants on Saturday, July 17 (time TBA) and will join with Chris Rankin in hosting a dessert event on Saturday from 7:30 until 8:45 PM. Tickets can be purchased by anyone holding a full registration, a Merlin’s Circle registration or a Saturday registration, and only 100 tickets are available! Enjoy a chocolate fountain and mounds of other sweets, plus coffee, tea and lemonade, while participating in a Q&A with, and enjoying table visits from, Chris and Christian. Tickets are $65 through April 1, and go up to $75 through June 30. If tickets are available at the door, they will cost $100 each.

In addition, Christian will be participating in many more events at Infinitus, including autograph and photograph sessions on Saturday; there will be no charge for autographs if you bring your own copy of Chamber of Secrets, and your pass to have your photo taken with Christian photographs will be available for purchase on-line for $30 through May 1, and for $40 at the door.
