00:00:25
What's up hybris? Welcome back to another episode
00:00:27
of The Phantom hybrid podcast. This is hanako and I am here
00:00:30
with Anthony Lori and Mike and we are discussing a new show.
00:00:34
We are discussing the Amazon Prime series Wheel of Time which
00:00:39
is based on the bestselling novels by Robert Jordan.
00:00:44
And I'm going to admit, I don't know much about this series.
00:00:48
I have been my old Mentor has been trying to push me to read
00:00:52
them for years and I just never got around to it.
00:00:56
And when I heard that the show was coming out, I literally
00:00:59
stayed away from interviews, everything talking about it
00:01:03
because I kind of wanted to experience it as a fresh, you
00:01:08
know, fan, you know, learning about it for the first time.
00:01:12
But this is as Lori likes to say this is Anthony's ish.
00:01:18
So we don't let Anthony tell us a little bit about will of time
00:01:22
and what we can expect from this.
00:01:24
Ariza what we might can expect from this series.
00:01:26
So Anthony tell us about The Wheel of Time, okay?
00:01:29
This is my ear. So let me tell you everything
00:01:32
you need to know this but I'm not gonna do that.
00:01:39
He's pulling a lorry know if we mean that as a compliment Lord,
00:01:43
we really do. Oh, I know, I do, I do, I do
00:01:47
first. I will say that I don't know as
00:01:50
much about this series as Lori knows about them.
00:01:54
So this is starting to me but who really does.
00:01:57
So I mean like yeah that's a tall order.
00:02:00
I started re I really and I have no children.
00:02:05
That's my excuse. I read these books years ago, I
00:02:12
kind of stumbled across out of the world just looking for
00:02:15
something to read and I started as an audiobook.
00:02:20
So I listen to it first before I see, read the series and it's
00:02:25
brilliant. I think is one of the finest
00:02:28
series works. You never read Robert.
00:02:31
Jordan didn't actually finish it.
00:02:33
I think it was intended to be 12 books or 13.
00:02:37
Books. Brandon Sanderson came in and
00:02:41
used his notes to write the last book which he turned into three
00:02:45
books. Oh, okay.
00:02:47
So the ending took three books, where Robert Jordan only playing
00:02:50
the doing one, which I'm not a big Brandon Sanderson fan but he
00:02:55
did a pretty good job. So the will of time we'll talk
00:02:59
about it but basically the wheel turns and people die, the souls
00:03:06
go back. Into will and it gets spun back
00:03:09
out in this. Why?
00:03:12
When you read the first paragraph and chapter one, the
00:03:16
will of time. Turns and AIDS is coming past
00:03:19
leaving the memories that become legend, legend, Phase, 2 myth.
00:03:23
And even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth
00:03:28
comes again in one age, called the 30s by some and AIDS yet to
00:03:34
come and AIDS. Long passed away.
00:03:37
Wind rose, my mountain of Miss, the wind was not the beginning.
00:03:41
There are neither Beginnings nor endings to the Turning of The
00:03:45
Wheel of Time, but it was a beginning.
00:03:49
So the idea is that things happen over and over and over
00:03:53
again. And this is something I think
00:03:54
we've talked about in other words before, that things tend
00:03:58
to repeat over and over again. And this is so true for the
00:04:01
wheel. So the Creator God, created the
00:04:04
wheel and the wheel is wet, turns out souls, and the will
00:04:09
continues. So we are in the third age but
00:04:13
it's an age that has been in the age that hasn't come yet because
00:04:17
the cycle continues, so it's basically a cycle.
00:04:20
Okay, so a lot of this stuff has to do with rebirth,
00:04:25
reincarnation. You're going to hear about the
00:04:29
dragon reborn. So the dragon reborn was a guy
00:04:33
from the first age who died and there is Faith in his return.
00:04:39
And this 3 years later since he was alive, okay?
00:04:44
And now he has been reborn either as a male or female,
00:04:47
okay? And the whole point in the
00:04:50
beginning of the series, is everyone's trying to find them.
00:04:53
And then there's some men, they claim to be the dragon reborn.
00:04:58
We saw that in the very few first few episodes of the
00:05:02
series. First, we episodes, right?
00:05:06
One of the things that really drew me to this.
00:05:08
Is it created my interest in Magic systems and people may
00:05:12
have listen to podcast. May have heard me talk about
00:05:15
magic systems before. They have a very interesting
00:05:18
magic system, there's the true source and then there's the one
00:05:23
power. So the true source is a
00:05:26
different source of Magic, the one power can be wielded by men
00:05:31
and women. But they're not the same, the
00:05:35
side bean inside our and we'll hear about that later.
00:05:39
Apparently they're not going to talk about that until we get
00:05:42
further into the series. So in the beginning Moraine is
00:05:46
going to talk about when the site and basically the devil is
00:05:51
trying to break the wheel somehow, he was able to
00:05:54
influence the world. There was an argument between
00:05:58
the I said, I the men and women, how they should take care of it.
00:06:02
The Dragon of the time he wanted to close.
00:06:06
He wanted to seal sight and away.
00:06:10
When he took all the men to go do it.
00:06:14
Shiet and fought back. They sealed it successfully.
00:06:17
However, site and was able to paint the men, had the men side
00:06:23
of the one power. Okay?
00:06:24
So now men go insane when they start channeling and we call it
00:06:29
Talent back when we were watching discovery of witches
00:06:33
and you saw how they when she was doing the magic.
00:06:38
And you see the threads and the The waving the flag with the
00:06:42
weaving, this is very similar to what you see in the will of
00:06:46
time. And I'm pretty sure that's where
00:06:49
she got that idea from. Okay, was the weaving of the air
00:06:53
and spirit and fire and water and Earth all that stuff.
00:06:59
Okay? So let me ask a question.
00:07:02
So the I said, I from what I gathered from the show, the I
00:07:06
said I are all women but you're saying that men were Either I
00:07:10
said, I as well. Is that something that they
00:07:13
change for the show? No.
00:07:15
Oh okay. Oh, that's something.
00:07:17
Okay, well you did say that anything.
00:07:19
He said this before we started recording.
00:07:22
He said anything that might end up being spoilery for later on,
00:07:26
he was not going to answer any questions.
00:07:29
It's not really a spoiler. All I said, I used to be men and
00:07:34
women and even though I said that symbol, which looks like me
00:07:37
and yang because it was the combination of the male and
00:07:41
female side of the one power. Okay, when the men went to go
00:07:47
seal site and away he the dark one, he painted The Mill Side so
00:07:53
all the men went crazy. Okay.
00:07:56
So there were effectively no more ads to die male.
00:08:00
I see that. So now, all a That are female
00:08:03
because an email they can Channel goes crazy.
00:08:07
Okay. Isn't there like a prequel that
00:08:11
kind of goes into all that for before the first book?
00:08:14
Because it's spring something and you spring.
00:08:17
Yeah, yeah. Now here's my question and I and
00:08:21
because I I'm currently on book to I'm doing audio books, should
00:08:25
I go back and listen to the prequel?
00:08:29
Now if it's not necessary. Okay?
00:08:32
Okay. It was something that came out
00:08:34
later but it's not necessary. It's an interesting read as good
00:08:37
read it gives you some good background information, more
00:08:40
information about some of your main characters, but it's not
00:08:43
necessary. Okay.
00:08:46
I'm trying to think if I have any more questions.
00:08:48
All done, sir. Well done before you started
00:08:53
into the actual shelf. Let's see.
00:08:57
No, I think all my questions. You can be asked as we discussed
00:09:01
the show, sold the episode starts with our introduction to
00:09:06
Moraine. We see her getting dressed and
00:09:09
she starts telling this story. She says the world is broken
00:09:11
many. Many years ago, men who were
00:09:13
born with great power. Believe they could cage Darkness
00:09:16
itself the arrogance, when they fail the Seas boiled and I'm
00:09:21
watching it in background, mountains were swallowed up
00:09:23
cities burned and the women of the, I said I were left to pick
00:09:27
up the pieces and this Why I asked the question about women
00:09:32
and the women in the men because from the get-go of the show,
00:09:37
they make it seem like the women are the only Aisa die and they
00:09:41
make it seem like when men try to touch the one power.
00:09:45
When they try to use the one power.
00:09:46
Like you said they go mad but they make it seem like the men
00:09:51
are not supposed to have the 1 power at all and in a way it
00:09:55
reminded me of Doom, which we just recently A review because
00:10:00
and doun you know you have the been a gesture at who are these
00:10:04
women witches and they're very powerful and you know we have
00:10:09
Paul who has some of their powers and technically speaking
00:10:14
he's not supposed to because he's male he's not supposed to
00:10:16
be able to access that power. So it kind of reminded me about
00:10:19
that and then I thought about what Laura said about, you know,
00:10:22
doing kind of being the the forefather of a lot of fantasy
00:10:27
as far as those types of You know, those types of plots is
00:10:33
story arcs and you know, that sort of Storytelling.
00:10:36
So that reminded me of that in this.
00:10:40
And then also, as we see throughout the first episode, we
00:10:44
see that the women are really really powerful, the ones who
00:10:47
can wield the one power, and then you do see men who may have
00:10:54
tried to use the one power, and like you said they've gone mad
00:10:58
or they're close. To it.
00:10:59
Or it looks like the I said, I are there tracking them down
00:11:03
because they're looking for this person who is supposed to be the
00:11:05
dragon reborn, and he's supposed to be bad, like they say, he
00:11:09
broke the world the first time he was here, and with him being
00:11:13
reborn, it can go either way depending on the person that
00:11:17
he's inhabiting. Like he can either break the
00:11:19
world again or he can actually fix it okay again.
00:11:24
Well well then the dragon lived Years ago so prison they haven't
00:11:32
been any mail I survive for three thousand years okay so all
00:11:38
the ads of that as the world knows it I'll ask that our women
00:11:43
and it's always been like that even though that's not the case.
00:11:47
Okay, um, When the breaking happened, a lot of a lot of
00:11:52
things kind of went wrong and when they realized that, the men
00:11:57
were channeling, like Marine said, the women had to pick up
00:12:00
the pieces, they started hunting down all the mill.
00:12:04
I said, I, they could find and all the mill Chandler's and try
00:12:08
to take care of them. Okay?
00:12:10
And it's not something you can just make go away.
00:12:13
So people are going to be born who can channel, so for the last
00:12:16
3 years, any male who could Channel, It has been dealt with
00:12:21
by the. I see that.
00:12:22
And they call that gentling, right?
00:12:25
Yeah, even gentling or stealing, okay?
00:12:29
Like still, they've been gentle door, skilled.
00:12:31
That's basically them taking that power away from them
00:12:34
because even more from the once the power.
00:12:36
Okay. Okay, no no.
00:12:39
Here's a quick quick question. The perceived Madness that the
00:12:43
men seem to have is that mainly because they are untrained in
00:12:48
the the one cow. It's not a perceived Madness, an
00:12:52
actual madness. Okay, so actually see you before
00:12:55
seen when the guy with the middle Chandler was running from
00:12:59
the read Isaiah he the red sister.
00:13:03
He thought he was talking to someone and she's like who you?
00:13:07
Yeah. Right there's no one there.
00:13:10
Okay, search for the men. Yes.
00:13:13
The one power for men has been corrupted by the dark old of
00:13:18
dragon Reborn is basically the one that can wield.
00:13:23
The one time I'm just working through this can wield the one
00:13:27
power and not go. Batshit crazy.
00:13:30
For the purposes of this discussion, I will say that any
00:13:34
male they can Channel. Currently is going to go, okay?
00:13:39
All right, hey, get your get your Obi-Wan Kenobi Lon.
00:13:42
There's no way, there's no way around it right now.
00:13:47
So, so yeah, any the dragon, whether it be male or female
00:13:53
because remember, they don't know who is going to be on their
00:13:55
way, is whether it be male or female, if it's a male, he's
00:13:59
gonna go mad, okay, that that is going to happen that because
00:14:04
that's just how it was if it's a female.
00:14:07
Bill sees not gonna go man because the female side of the
00:14:11
one power is pure. Okay?
00:14:15
So we have another fantasy series where women are powerful,
00:14:20
who runs the word? I told her to go, I'll see how
00:14:26
it goes gonna love this series because it's all about the human
00:14:29
have. Now you know I was like I was
00:14:31
looking at it. I was like, okay I can get down
00:14:34
with this you know, literally the women are in charge.
00:14:37
And the men go crazy when they try to use it.
00:14:39
Yes, let's get into it. I mean, it's actually pretty
00:14:43
refreshing to see us like you going to the tavern two women
00:14:46
are the one carousing and getting drunk and like and like
00:14:50
you know being real Rowdy and shit.
00:14:52
I'm like, that's weird but that's actually kind of cool.
00:14:55
I'm like okay I'm with this that's pretty that's pretty dumb
00:14:57
now. Now there are some things just
00:15:01
like, you know, what's the other one we watching?
00:15:05
Which one Shit. What we cares.
00:15:11
How is shadowing bone? On bone.
00:15:13
Setting up there are going to be some things that you as a woman
00:15:17
is going to Black, really? Yeah.
00:15:19
And if they do it, if they do it the right way, it will be fine
00:15:24
if not people may have issues with it.
00:15:26
Okay, okay. Yeah, I was like, I was seeing
00:15:30
literal, like, like lines that you could draw between a lot of
00:15:34
stuff that we've already watched, like they're deaf.
00:15:36
Definitely a discovery which is which is lines.
00:15:39
You can draw their definite Shadow and Bone lines.
00:15:42
You can draw their even lines to The Witcher that you could draw
00:15:45
here. And it's like a game of that I
00:15:47
have to Game of Thrones cursed. Yeah.
00:15:51
Like a ton just like Dad. Remember that, you know, this is
00:15:54
just like everything else in Fantasy is drawn from a thorium
00:15:58
lore and branched out so it's like everything has certain
00:16:02
things that are similar but I was actually I mean you could
00:16:08
like almost you can almost hand pick like the characters and
00:16:11
like when the part they're playing and like you know
00:16:15
compare and contrast and pick. Oh he's acting like such.
00:16:18
He's acting like such. So it's kind of cool like this
00:16:21
because like on ago I'm fresh to this to like I've never heard of
00:16:25
it before it came out and I was like, okay.
00:16:28
But I mean it's like it's almost like most of us like fantasy is
00:16:33
basically like once you figure out where whatever Buddy's part
00:16:37
is, is basically the same as like, you know, you can
00:16:40
basically figure out who is who and what levels are, what levels
00:16:44
and who's going to be what, as far as you go.
00:16:47
So it's like, you know, as we go along, you're going to see Lord
00:16:51
of the Rings in this, because there's a character who is
00:16:55
straight from Lord of the Rings. George r.r., Martin was inspired
00:16:59
by this as well, because Game of Thrones that actually comes from
00:17:05
The Wheel of Time because there's He called the game of
00:17:07
houses which you'll hear about later.
00:17:11
But that is what the inspiration for the Game of Thrones was a
00:17:15
game of house gonna say. Even that whole thing about the
00:17:19
wheel turning and the will being, you know, broken or all
00:17:22
this is like I was watching this and I heard Daenerys Targaryen
00:17:27
because that was one of the things that she always talked
00:17:29
about was breaking. The will you know trying to
00:17:33
break the quote-unquote curse of her family.
00:17:37
And doing better and being better.
00:17:39
Which okay, we're not going to go and you get The Reincarnation
00:17:44
out of it, too. Because everything comes,
00:17:50
everything goes back to, Lord of the Rings and King Arthur, and
00:17:54
you're gonna get that in this instance, in a lot.
00:17:58
Well, I'm going to, I'm going to just throw this out here
00:18:00
because, well, two things really one.
00:18:03
Is that George r.r. Martin because I was reading up
00:18:06
a little Before and I understand how Game of Thrones came out of
00:18:09
this, but he had already started writing wild cards.
00:18:12
He was a good, two, three books in before he switched over, and
00:18:16
did Game of Thrones, which I thought was interesting because
00:18:18
while the cars was supposed to be his go-to series, the other
00:18:21
thing is that I'm watching this and I love Lord of the Rings and
00:18:25
I love anything fancy wise but this really, really remind me of
00:18:32
dragonlance the book series. And I'm like, huh, this is
00:18:36
basically a A real-life dragonlance, come to life, you
00:18:39
know, I mean, I'm waiting for Tesla Health perfect to show up.
00:18:42
I mean, it is that interesting to me, so, yeah, I thought that
00:18:46
was kind of cool because it is, it's that every fancy Trope.
00:18:50
And it's got every fantasy. It's like, when I was listening
00:18:53
to the one on audiobook, I literally started a little note
00:18:57
on my notepad while I was working.
00:18:59
Let's get going. Okay, elf click this click,
00:19:02
click click, you know as as the book went on I was taking off
00:19:06
and I'm like This is awesome. Who's got everything that you
00:19:09
can take out everything about might you have?
00:19:12
Yeah, we're serious. Yeah, Prince said well, you
00:19:15
haven't had the princes yet. All, they're all coming.
00:19:18
They're all there and upset and Barbarian right now.
00:19:21
You have them all. Yeah, I mean, even some of the
00:19:24
names, one of the main characters sent her name is Gwen
00:19:28
and it sounds like a grain to me.
00:19:30
And I was like, oh okay, here's some, here's some more.
00:19:33
It's like we know this with fantasy all.
00:19:36
See in some way, they tight, they tie into each other, you
00:19:40
know, they borrow from here or they kind of get their
00:19:42
inspiration. So it's it's fun to see and kind
00:19:46
of pick those things out, you know.
00:19:49
But like I said there was a lot of ear.
00:19:51
Blaine is Guinevere. Yeah.
00:19:53
Yeah. As far as the yeah Randall Thor
00:19:57
author, Sarah? Yeah.
00:20:00
So there are so the other thing that I want to talk about before
00:20:04
we get into the actual episode. So from What I understand and
00:20:08
just a little bit of the things that I heard, you know, going to
00:20:11
DragonCon I believe they they had they used to actually have a
00:20:15
Wheel of Time Track at DragonCon gentleness and they kind of face
00:20:20
it out you know or merged in combine them all into be on the
00:20:25
same track. Yeah.
00:20:26
So one of the things that I've heard about the show that is
00:20:31
very different that had people talking is the fact that this
00:20:35
cast is huge Hugely hugely diverse and of course not having
00:20:41
read the books. I wouldn't know that but just
00:20:43
watching the show and seeing like it's a little Rainbow on my
00:20:49
screen and I love it because you've got people of all types
00:20:55
there and I really feel like this is one of those shows that
00:20:57
really truly reflects the world as it is.
00:21:01
And I mean, I'm not talking about you have your token black
00:21:04
here in your token black, they're like it really is a Mix
00:21:08
racially diverse cast, you've got Asians in here.
00:21:11
You've got people of color in here, it's really diverse ever
00:21:16
make sense of it actress. That plays dance music plays
00:21:19
egwene. I think she's aborigine.
00:21:22
Mmm. If I'm not.
00:21:23
Okay, I could be wrong on that. But you're right I think is
00:21:28
fantastic because we read the book races have anything to do
00:21:32
with it. But it is clear that all the
00:21:33
characters are white. Even when you get Two characters
00:21:37
that could be argued later. There are characters of color.
00:21:43
There's they still come off as being white.
00:21:46
So, just like we talked about with Channel and on Saturday a
00:21:50
bone, it doesn't hurt to make it a diverse can write and it's sad
00:21:55
that there are people who are fans of the book, who look at
00:21:58
this and it's like, what they don't look like, I how I
00:22:01
imagined. Well, of course they do, right?
00:22:03
Look like which we met? Yeah.
00:22:06
But the Thanks. So is, you know, where's with
00:22:09
Shadow and Bone? We do see a little bit of that
00:22:12
racist element because, you know, Elena's character is
00:22:15
discriminated against because of what she looks like.
00:22:19
You don't really see that in the show, at least, I think, right
00:22:22
now we're five episodes in and I've watched all five episodes.
00:22:27
You don't see any hint of any kind of racial anything in this
00:22:31
show, nothing. Not even, just the racial.
00:22:35
There's also So you have LGBT representation in the show as
00:22:40
well and it's so refreshing to watch these people exist in a
00:22:47
world where none of those things matter.
00:22:51
Like, there's nothing really pointing out or making a big
00:22:55
deal of it. Like they talked about the fact
00:22:57
that these two guys, you know, we'll talk about it later but
00:23:02
you know the waters are bonded to their aissa die.
00:23:06
And from what I gather with the show that means bonded in any
00:23:13
way, and every way if possible, so that means that they may have
00:23:18
a familial Bond, or they can have a sexual Bond and it's not
00:23:23
anything that's necessarily frowned upon, right?
00:23:29
Look, that weirdly, it's it just kind of exists.
00:23:34
And even with the two waters, They both serve the same, I said
00:23:38
I but it's clear. It's clear that those two guys
00:23:41
are together that they are lovers or I don't know if they
00:23:45
do like marriage in the traditional sense.
00:23:47
In this show, I don't think we've really seen that that much
00:23:51
here, except for maybe parent, but with the I said, I, you
00:23:55
know, they have their Waters and the bond with the I said, I in
00:23:59
the waters is so close that they can feel what the other person
00:24:04
is going through, which I Is really, really interesting.
00:24:08
But again, you have these two men who are clearly together,
00:24:12
you know, that I don't know if it's in this episode.
00:24:14
I think is in a couple of episodes later, but you kind of
00:24:18
see them bonding over fire and they're clearly together.
00:24:22
You know, one sitting the other ones sitting on the ground in
00:24:24
between his legs and somebody's playing with somebody's hair and
00:24:27
they're just having a conversation is very natural.
00:24:30
It's not like anything that's hyper focused on is not
00:24:34
something that's mentioned there's no mention of yeah.
00:24:36
Yeah. Well, you know we're different
00:24:38
and it's nothing, it's just like so natural and then when they're
00:24:43
I said, I is like, you know. Hey guys, they get up and do I,
00:24:47
okay, we got to go to work and and nine a vast.
00:24:51
The question she was like do all three of them and the other
00:24:55
people, they just looking like, maybe and blank.
00:24:59
It was just you know and like I said, I know we're getting ahead
00:25:02
with that one. I just wanted to kind of bring
00:25:04
that up because it's so refreshing.
00:25:06
Chance to see the diversity and the inclusion.
00:25:12
And it not be made a big deal of.
00:25:14
It's like a natural part of this story and I really love it
00:25:19
because I feel like that's the way it should be.
00:25:22
Like, of course, we're talking about it because in our world,
00:25:25
equality is something we are still fighting for.
00:25:29
And even the fact that this show went with a diverse cast, and
00:25:33
people are complaining about it because that's not how they
00:25:35
imagine them. It is a little bit, you know, a
00:25:39
part of the reason why I'm pointing this out in the first
00:25:41
place is just like in the show, is just whatever and let's see
00:25:48
what happens though. When you take race out of the
00:25:51
equation, all the other things become the Discrimination like
00:25:57
being from the two rivers you treated differently because you
00:26:00
from the two rivers. That's true.
00:26:02
I've died or prosecuted against because rise to die.
00:26:07
Will we meet the Tinkers? They're also being persecuted
00:26:10
against because they're tinker's.
00:26:12
So you basically understand that a lot of the Discrimination
00:26:18
doesn't necessarily have to be about race within the show.
00:26:22
It's yes. But you're right though, it's
00:26:26
refreshing to be able to watch this and race, not be the
00:26:30
factor. Like, right, you said, maybe the
00:26:33
tropics their races, you know. No, we can kill them all day
00:26:38
long, but rowlocks. So yeah, we'll get we'll get to
00:26:43
the child's but but one of the things I love is like the main
00:26:48
characters of the show. So the show starts out with
00:26:51
Moraine who is one of the I said I she is actually looking for a
00:26:57
certain person who maybe the dragon reborn and she comes to
00:27:02
this town and it turns out that there are According to her for
00:27:08
people who fit that description, they're all born around the time
00:27:12
that the dragon reborn. Well, the dragon should have
00:27:15
been reborn, which was about 20 between 20 and 24 years ago.
00:27:20
So you have these characters, you have ran out Thor.
00:27:24
You have egwene, you have parent, and you have Matt, and
00:27:28
they are all around the same age.
00:27:30
They are all very close. Their best friends is very
00:27:33
evident from the beginning of the show, but You know, egwene
00:27:38
and parents are not your standard White characters.
00:27:44
You know, they are people of color egwene and ran have this
00:27:48
long going relationship like they've been apparently in love
00:27:52
with each other since they were children.
00:27:54
And you know they happen to be singled out by Moraine when all
00:28:01
of this comes to a head because of the fact that they may be the
00:28:04
dragon reborn. So that was interesting as well.
00:28:08
And then you have you have land. I think his name is land that
00:28:14
meringues water and he's Asian. Yeah.
00:28:18
So again it's like you have all of these.
00:28:23
You have all of these diverse characters who are in positions
00:28:26
of importance and power and it's very refreshing to see
00:28:31
especially in a fantasy show because a lot of times our
00:28:35
characters are kind Just there's the sidekicks or they're,
00:28:39
they're kind of, in the background, you know?
00:28:42
But let's talk about these characters.
00:28:46
So I mentioned the for you have R and you have egwene, you have
00:28:52
parent and Matt question about parents character.
00:28:57
So I've, uh, I've heard that in the books, parents character was
00:29:02
not married, is that true true? He was not mad, okay?
00:29:07
Okay. So it was kind of weird because
00:29:09
one of the complaints that I heard and knowing or finding out
00:29:14
later that he wasn't married in the books, it kind of made that
00:29:17
that thought kind of Wonder for me as well.
00:29:20
So they made him married in the show and what happens during the
00:29:23
course of the show is as Moran comes to this town and she's
00:29:27
trying to figure out who the dragon reborn is, there is an
00:29:31
attack by this group called The trollops.
00:29:34
And they are like, I They're like the Orcs of this show, you
00:29:41
know, they're like these that is really ugly race of people and
00:29:45
basically what they do is they come in and they slaughtered the
00:29:48
town and we find out that they're slaughtering the town
00:29:50
because they are also looking for the person who maybe the
00:29:54
dragon reborn. Now, I'm not exactly sure what
00:29:58
the deal is with that. I know that there is another
00:30:00
figure, that kind of sort of looks like Voldemort in this
00:30:04
show, that controls the trial against emergency.
00:30:07
Uh, yeah. That's what who I'm merger, but
00:30:10
you can also call a fade. Okay?
00:30:13
Oh, okay. So he's a fake.
00:30:14
Okay, he's a fake. Okay.
00:30:16
So basically, so you can be named he's not someone who
00:30:20
should not be right? You can actually name him.
00:30:22
Yes. Oh, so again, with the
00:30:24
comparisons this person, he looks like Voldemort and the
00:30:29
Fades from what I saw in episode 4.
00:30:33
I believe it was they kind of look like Dementors to me.
00:30:36
Hmm. So Okay, there you go.
00:30:38
Did they feel? They're the field generals.
00:30:41
They control the tropics. Okay, so basically what happens
00:30:46
is the child looks come to, the they come to the town and they
00:30:49
just start slaughtering everybody.
00:30:53
And during this fight parent and his wife who, you know, parent
00:30:58
is Young. He has this young wife.
00:31:00
They look very much in love. They are blacksmiths in the town
00:31:04
so they create the weapons. So when they're Attacked by the
00:31:07
chocolates. They run to their shop, they
00:31:10
pick up weapons and they start fighting the trolleys.
00:31:13
And I mean, they are holding their own against these
00:31:16
trolleys, which is impressive because these child looks are
00:31:20
very strong. They're very powerful.
00:31:22
And like I said, they start cutting people down in the town,
00:31:25
like, with the quickness. So what happens is they're both
00:31:30
fighting these trolleys parent is on one side, and I think his
00:31:34
wife's name was Layla was on. The other side and they're both
00:31:38
fighting these chocolates with like, Spears and axes parent
00:31:42
actually has this really huge acts that he's using, so he cuts
00:31:46
into one try. Look and he hears something
00:31:49
behind him and he swings thinking, he's about to take out
00:31:54
another trollop. And instead, he plants the axon
00:31:58
to the side of his wife. And so he kills her by accident
00:32:03
and one of the things I heard, you know, people complaining
00:32:06
about online. They were like why what was the
00:32:08
whole purpose in even giving him a wife if they were just going
00:32:10
to kill her off in the first episode?
00:32:12
And I was like, that doesn't make sense.
00:32:15
Why would they do that? Like from his story in the book
00:32:19
and what you see on screen as far as his journey, what we see
00:32:22
so far did him having a wife or what happened with the wife
00:32:26
because I know what the wife he has this sense of guilt and it
00:32:30
leads into a depression and then like certain things a couple of
00:32:33
episodes later he feels like whatever happens to him, she
00:32:36
happy. Because he deserves it, but does
00:32:39
him having a wife in this show, change anything about the
00:32:43
trajectory of his character from what it was in the books.
00:32:47
Hmm. Okay, I can't really answer that
00:32:51
question, okay? But I will say he has, I'm going
00:32:57
to be doing some mental gymnastics you.
00:33:01
So there you go. Parent has a lot of internal
00:33:07
dialogue. Okay, it's character.
00:33:11
He's not Communicator. Okay with other people.
00:33:15
This actor does a really good job with that.
00:33:17
He didn't speak a lot. A lot of parents motivations and
00:33:22
how he feels is all internal okay.
00:33:26
So they can't just going to it would be very hard to try to
00:33:30
explain why he's such a breathing depressed, you know.
00:33:37
Arc introspective character to be that talking to nobody.
00:33:41
So to say him up there way, they give him this wife, a pregnant
00:33:47
wife, oh, sir. Oh, that's right.
00:33:53
And then right into the deep depression, the dark breathing
00:34:00
pairing that we all know and love because that's basically
00:34:03
how using a book this is now people who don't watch Ouch, you
00:34:07
don't know the books, we have something to hang our hat on
00:34:10
about this explains everything about him like why he's the way
00:34:14
he is. Okay, so for that one, big, big
00:34:17
thing that happens to on. Yeah, wait a minute.
00:34:21
Laure are you? You're going to you can actually
00:34:23
be Lori, you're not doing that. You know, zakhmi quiet.
00:34:37
Was so friggin heartbreaking. Like like you say he did a good
00:34:40
job of like emoting with his face.
00:34:43
Like when he saw he did it like his face was just like, like,
00:34:47
like oh my god what have I done? It is like, when that happened,
00:34:51
I was like, oh, like I didn't even like we didn't even really
00:34:56
know her character much. And I'd know that her character
00:34:59
doesn't have a big part to play in the story except for, I guess
00:35:03
how it motivates him but just What I saw of these characters
00:35:08
in the first episode, you know, you see these characters, you
00:35:11
see, they're buying, you get to learn a little bit more of their
00:35:14
personality. Like, you know, that for
00:35:16
pairing, his wife was everything to him and his friendships as
00:35:21
well. With Matt, you see that Matt has
00:35:25
these two parents who are their trash parents.
00:35:30
Okay. They are like garbage.
00:35:31
Heap parents, like, Dad is a womanizer openly flirting with
00:35:35
other women in the town while Mom sitting there watching him
00:35:38
like literally he's doing this in her face and she sitting
00:35:41
there watching him and calling him names and I'm just sitting
00:35:44
here looking at them like so obviously this is a small town.
00:35:50
This is one of those towns where everybody knows everybody, where
00:35:53
you all grew up with each other and your grandparents probably
00:35:57
also knew each other and grew up with each other.
00:35:59
So, everybody knows that these are his parents that they are
00:36:02
together that they are married or bonded, or whatever.
00:36:05
The case is, this dude. Is openly flirting with a woman
00:36:08
in the town in the middle of the Town Square.
00:36:11
While his wife is there and she's so busy looking at him and
00:36:15
being pissed off. They've left their younger two
00:36:19
daughters at home just by themselves and it becomes very
00:36:23
clear in the show that these two girls are Matt's whole world.
00:36:28
Like he loves his little sisters and he takes care of them.
00:36:31
So you get to see that you know, there's this I guess it's like a
00:36:36
little celebration that they do in the town where or maybe a
00:36:39
little time. It's called real time, where is
00:36:42
not necessarily celebration, but it's basically like a way to
00:36:46
honor their dead. And to well-built inews like
00:36:51
it's the celebration of the beginning of Spring.
00:36:55
Okay. And is it the beginning of
00:36:58
Spring or in the spring? I can't remember but part of
00:37:01
that is sealing off prayers for the person that you lost or love
00:37:07
to be spun back into the life. Okay, okay, so I guess there's
00:37:14
this thing that they do is kind of like they buy Lanterns and
00:37:18
they release the lanterns or they're like the lanterns and
00:37:21
Matt really couldn't afford to get any for sister.
00:37:25
So of course, he stills, from one of the women in the town, he
00:37:29
steals a bracelet and sells it to this guy so that he can buy
00:37:33
lanterns for his little sister, his little sisters and that was
00:37:37
one of the things I was like, okay, the way that he had to do
00:37:40
that. I'm frowning upon because you
00:37:42
shouldn't be stealing but you sell his book readers.
00:37:45
Like they made me mad. Thief.
00:37:48
He's a thing, but he has a heart of gold, like he really loves
00:37:51
his sisters and I like that about his character with Rand
00:37:55
and egwene like we said, we noticed that they have been
00:38:00
pining over each other since childhood, and it's obvious that
00:38:05
they are together in the show, but the conflict with them comes
00:38:09
in the second meeting obviously together.
00:38:14
Obviously, you think, During the first part of the show, but this
00:38:20
is the thing. Be the age that everybody up
00:38:22
from the book. Oh, okay.
00:38:24
Okay. There was a sexual relationship
00:38:27
between R and okay. Yeah, okay, they were, they were
00:38:32
teenagers, okay? Okay.
00:38:35
But the thing with them is egwene, we see her at the
00:38:39
beginning and it looks like she is being, she is being part of a
00:38:44
ritual. It.
00:38:45
And it almost looks like a coming of age.
00:38:47
Ritual. But basically what's happening
00:38:49
is she is being tested is that the proper that she's being
00:38:56
tested to see if if she is, I don't know, strong enough or can
00:39:03
be chosen to be nine. Aves.
00:39:06
Apprentice and it's what is it that they call her winter or
00:39:11
wisdom, a wisdom and They sort of the, there's a couple of
00:39:20
things happening. She's now old enough at 20, to
00:39:24
join the winning circle, because she's old enough to be married
00:39:30
and and do all that good stuff. Okay.
00:39:34
Being a wisdom or Nannies, Apprentice, the something
00:39:38
different like Steph something in addition to being in the way.
00:39:42
Okay, Circle. Okay.
00:39:44
And That's what we learn. Ran gets pissed off about later
00:39:47
because she's like, I want to become a wisdom.
00:39:50
Well, she can't get married. Yeah, I was going to say I don't
00:39:56
think he was. Okay.
00:39:58
One of the things that impressed me about the episode when they
00:40:01
have the conversation because she you know, 9A have asked her
00:40:04
to become her Prentice. And you can see obviously that
00:40:08
that has some kind of like deep impact on her.
00:40:11
We don't know what it is immediately until she gets back
00:40:15
to the town after her after her initiation or the ceremony
00:40:20
ceremony. Okay.
00:40:21
After her ceremony and she comes back to the tavern and She
00:40:26
starts working and she avoids rant and it's very obvious that
00:40:30
something is not right because at first when I looked at it, I
00:40:33
was like oh is this one of those?
00:40:35
Oh he's pining for her. And she's not paying attention.
00:40:38
Then you realize they actually are in a relationship and she
00:40:41
was avoiding him because I guess of what she felt like, she
00:40:45
needed to tell them. So they have a conversation
00:40:49
about her being asked to be 98 his apprentice.
00:40:53
And after this is of course, a After they slept together and he
00:40:57
kind of storms off. And in the morning, he's out on
00:41:01
this Mountainside and she goes to him and they actually sit and
00:41:05
have like a mature conversation, which I was impressed with
00:41:09
because these are young people. And yes, when she first told
00:41:14
him, he was upset and kind of stormed off, but it was never in
00:41:18
a it wasn't in the way that you see, in a lot of young people,
00:41:24
young adult relationships on TV, nowadays, especially like,
00:41:28
regular non-magical relationships or whatever, like,
00:41:32
those relationships are always very codependent, very, toxic,
00:41:36
very It's in that way where people think that somebody owes
00:41:45
them something and when that person doesn't do what they what
00:41:49
they feel like there's like always this drama and it's like
00:41:53
you got to see them to sit down, have a conversation, they talked
00:41:58
about the things that they wanted as kids and then when she
00:42:01
says, I'm going to go ahead and be a wisdom.
00:42:04
He says, I know, and he puts his arm around her and she cries and
00:42:09
he's Just bear holding her like okay.
00:42:12
I know this is your decision and even though this decision means
00:42:16
that we can't be together that we won't have children together,
00:42:19
we won't be married. It was just a very different way
00:42:23
for them to handle that conversation and I was really
00:42:28
kind of impressed because I really thought that it was one
00:42:31
of those things where he was like, well we've talked about
00:42:33
this all these years and how could you do this to me?
00:42:36
There was none of that and I was so impressed.
00:42:39
I was like What? Also, there are reasons they
00:42:43
need to put that relationship behind him.
00:42:46
Okay, look Okay, Lori. I mean, I kind of figured that
00:42:53
might be the case to but still, when you think about the fact
00:42:56
that they have been pretty much, you know, all over each other
00:43:00
since children like there's a concert in the two rivers in the
00:43:04
two rivers, from a very young age, they, pretty much Start
00:43:09
pairing the kid. Is that like, they know, kind of
00:43:12
know who's going to marry, who write in, and they've always
00:43:16
known pretty much that they were going to be together, and it is
00:43:19
where I ran. Got it, upset you?
00:43:21
This is because she was going to be his wife.
00:43:24
Yeah, and it seems like, um, you know how we see it with certain
00:43:30
shows characters storylines, or whatever.
00:43:33
It always seems like those kinds of marriages are arranged, but
00:43:37
it didn't seem like that in this instance, because when Randy Is
00:43:40
walking with his father. Who again one of those mental
00:43:44
things. We talked about this talking
00:43:45
with Hawkeye. Like I had to take myself out of
00:43:48
a moment from another show because this dude was Roose
00:43:51
Bolton in the Game of Thrones, he is the whole reason why house
00:43:54
Stark started falling because he was the one that kind of helped
00:43:58
orchestrate, the Red Wedding. So I had to see her light.
00:44:02
Why is he in the show? I was glad he being so nice and
00:44:06
wives respectful and white. Oh my God.
00:44:08
No, not really sad guy. And then he's having this
00:44:12
conversation with these young man and it's a real nice
00:44:16
conversation, just his whole appearance in this first
00:44:18
episode. I was like I liked him as a
00:44:21
father figure. This is weird but nice but you
00:44:25
know they're having a conversation as they're
00:44:27
approaching the town and he tells ran he's I remember when
00:44:31
you used to Pick. I think it was used to pick
00:44:33
berries and save them for egwene and I was like, oh, that's so
00:44:38
cute. But again, it was one of those
00:44:40
things where I felt like that was the story telling us.
00:44:44
Okay, this relationship was not one of those.
00:44:47
They're arranged, you know, their patrol to each other
00:44:50
because that's what the parents did is like, they clearly chose
00:44:53
each other. So I think that makes her
00:44:56
decision even more important. The fact that they've known this
00:45:01
since they Kids that they were going to be together and you
00:45:05
know, when they have the conversation ran says, you know,
00:45:08
I always imagined our children running in these fields and
00:45:13
running in these mountains. The same way I do as a kid and
00:45:17
you can see her breaking down, like this is what I wanted to.
00:45:20
But now, you know, now that she's grown or now that she's
00:45:23
older heard needs, or her wants have changed.
00:45:26
That doesn't mean she doesn't still want him and want that
00:45:29
life, but it's kind of one of those things where She realizes
00:45:32
that there's something more important than that little story
00:45:36
of that little fantasy or that little thing that she had as a
00:45:39
kid. And I thought that was really
00:45:42
important because a lot of times you don't see female characters
00:45:46
being able to make those decisions.
00:45:48
It's like whenever you see me whenever you see them in shows,
00:45:52
like this is always one of those.
00:45:54
They're supposed to be the wife, they're supposed to be the
00:45:56
mother. I mean, it's basically a
00:45:57
societal Norm, like, women are supposed to be the wives were
00:46:01
supposed to be the king. Takers were supposed to be the
00:46:02
whole makers were supposed to be the ones who take care of the
00:46:05
children and here you see, a young girl who is clearly making
00:46:10
the choice for herself that okay, this is not all I'm
00:46:14
supposed to be. Let me go do something else and
00:46:17
even though she has to sacrifice the person that she loves to do
00:46:20
this, she stands firm in that decision, and even though it
00:46:24
hurts him, he supports her in that decision.
00:46:28
And I thought that was so important to see in this A show
00:46:32
even in later episodes when they have a conversation.
00:46:36
Yes, he is upset about it. He feels heard about it and he
00:46:39
lets her know that he feels heard about it but, you know,
00:46:43
she gets to the point where she was, like, I know that you hate
00:46:46
me, but if you could just at least look at me, it'll be okay.
00:46:49
This is something that we would expect to hear from like broken
00:46:52
relationships now and he just says he looks at her and he was
00:46:55
like, I could never hate you and then they kind of go back to
00:46:59
fixing what they a can of the friendship that still there.
00:47:06
I felt like that was so important to show in this show
00:47:09
and I don't know if that's what what happens in the books but
00:47:11
the fact that we're seeing it on screen and seeing like people
00:47:15
taking a break up people, this young let me let me stress
00:47:19
people this young taking that kind of break up and being
00:47:24
mature about it and able to talk about it and even though I don't
00:47:28
want, I don't really agree with this decision because it kind of
00:47:32
destroys what I thought I you know what, I was going to do it.
00:47:35
My life. But I'm still going to support
00:47:37
you. And what you want to do that
00:47:39
coming from a male to a female. I was just sitting there
00:47:43
watching like wow. Can we get more of this in
00:47:49
shows? And then stories involving young
00:47:51
people, because we don't see that enough so much of the stuff
00:47:54
that we see with young adult relationships in media.
00:47:57
And, I mean, even in real life, like I said, you had that
00:48:01
codependent that, that thing where if somebody does something
00:48:05
that's not to the benefit of the other person, there's a lot of
00:48:07
drama. There's a lot of tension and all
00:48:10
this other stuff and this is what we need to see more of You
00:48:15
know, is this a is this a ya novel?
00:48:18
Or is it just a fantasy novel? This fan?
00:48:20
It's just a fantasy, but it starts out like that.
00:48:24
Like why was it means I want to say is back to your thing about
00:48:30
being arranged marriages, it's not that they arranged
00:48:33
marriages, it's just their belief system about the wheel
00:48:37
and how everything kind of happens for a reason and things,
00:48:41
you know, things happen again and again, That sometimes they
00:48:46
just feel that 2 people are going to be together so they
00:48:50
don't fight it. So it's not like they arranged
00:48:54
that wave around the vacancy that they kind of liked each
00:48:57
other. And so no one was like, oh, they
00:49:00
can't be together or keep them separate or know.
00:49:03
Someone else. Know, they kind of look like,
00:49:04
oh, okay. That's what you see where this
00:49:07
goes. But that's why I'm saying, what
00:49:08
I like about this because that's what you're supposed.
00:49:11
Well, okay, taking into account. The whole reason marriage exists
00:49:17
in the first place is because that's what father's, you know,
00:49:20
fathers used to give their daughters as property to a man
00:49:25
as a business transaction. Okay.
00:49:27
And to legitimize children. Yes, that.
00:49:30
So thinking about it in that sense, okay?
00:49:35
The arranged marriage thing, that's that's how marriage is
00:49:38
started. But if you are thinking about it
00:49:41
in 2021, or whenever this story, Takes place, or the way that I
00:49:46
think it should be. People should be able to choose
00:49:50
who they marry and not having assigned to them.
00:49:52
And if these kids knew or even if the parents could see, okay?
00:49:57
There's something going on there.
00:49:58
Like you said, they just let it happen, naturally.
00:50:01
Like okay, if they're going to be together, they're going to be
00:50:02
together if not then, oh well, but isn't it, what?
00:50:06
It doesn't seem like, it was one of those things where the
00:50:08
parents were, forcing them to be together light, you can see it
00:50:11
in the show these two characters clearly love each other.
00:50:15
And as a result of that you know especially them being from a
00:50:18
small town like the parents got along together even with Matt
00:50:22
and parents parents you know them speaking about them it's
00:50:26
like they look out for each other that's the way
00:50:29
neighborhoods used to be you know the whole it takes a
00:50:32
village to raise a child like everybody knew what the other
00:50:37
families were doing or you know, if your mom wasn't home, we're
00:50:40
going to watch you and we're going to take care of you just
00:50:43
as if you are our own child. You kind of see a little bit of
00:50:47
that in these stories, you know, even later on when they're on
00:50:52
the road, after they've had to leave the town, you know, Matt
00:50:55
is worried about his sister's because he's had to leave his
00:50:58
sister's. With these two dipstick of
00:51:00
parents that, you know, that he has.
00:51:03
And parent says to him, you know, he was like the girls will
00:51:06
be alright. You know, my parents will check
00:51:08
in on Amigo Wayne's parents were checking on.
00:51:10
They'll be fine and you don't you know again that's that's
00:51:14
another thing. You You don't see that a lot
00:51:16
nowadays. Damn, just refreshing to see it
00:51:20
and you have the scene where in that Nev goes to pairing and
00:51:23
says Layla is probably by herself.
00:51:27
You should go check on her, you know who who can do that now,
00:51:34
like can someone walk up to you to?
00:51:36
You don't feel like my business and blocked.
00:51:39
Right. So yeah I like that and it is
00:51:44
just There's a there were a lot of things about this first
00:51:47
episode watching it. That made me say okay, you know
00:51:50
what? I will continue to watch this
00:51:53
show because there's just there's a lot of we watch a lot
00:51:58
of TV on the show and we have, you know, even though we love
00:52:01
the shows and we love the characters, you can clearly see
00:52:05
issues with things how they're being protected portrayed Shadow
00:52:11
and bone is one of them. You know, we've had the whole
00:52:15
Darkling in the Lino or Malin Alina debate as far as what's
00:52:19
healthy, what's not and how they portray those relationships.
00:52:22
So again, it's really nice to see something different.
00:52:27
Like you see these two people like obviously again these are
00:52:30
young people, they're like 20 or in their early 20s.
00:52:34
Param was already married and getting ready to have a child
00:52:38
and he looked very happy about it.
00:52:40
Like you know, you see all these little memes or you see things
00:52:44
about when people get Getting married, they're like, oh, you
00:52:46
know what, just put the shackle on me now, you know, it's like
00:52:50
people look at marriage in such a Negative light nowadays and,
00:52:56
you know, just to see something a little bit different, that's
00:52:58
refreshing. Not saying that, you know, the
00:53:02
whole institution of marriage, I'm divorced.
00:53:04
So, having gone through that, experience of what I went
00:53:07
through with for 16 years and coming out of it.
00:53:11
And what I had to deal with coming out of it, I've changed
00:53:14
my perspective. On marriage, a lot, especially
00:53:17
seeing some relationships that are not great relationships,
00:53:22
toxic relationships, but the people continue to stay
00:53:25
together. And then I see relationships,
00:53:28
like yours and like, Mike's and like Lori's where you guys are
00:53:32
clearly happy with your spouse's, you have fun together
00:53:35
and it's a healthy relationship. I don't think we see enough of
00:53:39
that nowadays, you know, the healthy side of the
00:53:42
relationships. And so I like the fact that we
00:53:44
get to see this. This in the show not just with
00:53:48
the kids or I'm calling them kids, their 20-somethings.
00:53:51
But you know, not just with Randy gwaine but you see you see
00:53:56
parents, I mean, egg Wayne's parents, you know together, you
00:54:01
see that Rands father. Apparently, his mother has
00:54:04
passed but his father still has a lot of love for his mother
00:54:08
when he talks about her, he talks about her with a lot of
00:54:11
love and respect and they like the lantern for her, you know.
00:54:15
The her soul will find his way back to the will.
00:54:17
It's just a lot of that that I'm liking about this series and I
00:54:21
know that's probably going to change as conflict starts to get
00:54:24
introduced but just for that first episode it was just
00:54:29
refreshing. It was a very feel good episode
00:54:32
for me. Even with all the stuff that
00:54:34
happened at the end with the Tri-Lakes and everything.
00:54:36
It was still just building the relationships with the
00:54:39
characters and seeing that it was it was very refreshing for
00:54:43
me. If the show track Acts like the
00:54:45
books. Do a lot of it is about
00:54:50
relationships, between me and the women, okay?
00:54:53
It's a lot about familial relationships.
00:54:58
It's a lot about platonic relationships romantic
00:55:02
relationships. The the whole, the foundation of
00:55:06
the series is about reconciling the conflict between men and
00:55:11
women. He goes all the way back to the
00:55:13
male and the female. As to die and bitter conflict.
00:55:18
And that's what the the whole series is almost like he built
00:55:23
it on that Foundation, of this is what you can do when you have
00:55:28
positive relationships between the Sexes.
00:55:33
So it may that may sound kind of sexist.
00:55:35
And I do like how in the beginning they seem to be trying
00:55:39
to write it a little bit differently by showing you the
00:55:43
same sex relationships and implying others but it it a lot
00:55:48
of it. The core of the book series has
00:55:52
a lot to do with that relationship between side.
00:55:56
Dean and side are the male and the female side of the one
00:55:59
power, okay? Okay, now the other relationship
00:56:04
I want to talk about is moraine and lands because that is I said
00:56:09
I and her water and it's very clear in this first episode like
00:56:16
she is, she is the one in charge.
00:56:18
She's the oxidized she's the one that's powerful but he is also
00:56:22
powerful in his own way. Even if he doesn't wield the
00:56:25
magic, you know what I'm saying, when they have to, when they get
00:56:30
ready to fight the trial, looks Because they're in the town, the
00:56:32
child looks of, you know, come they're attacking, they're
00:56:35
killing people, she starts fighting them with her magic,
00:56:39
with the one power and ask the Tri-Lakes are trying to take her
00:56:43
down. Here comes Lamb with his sword.
00:56:48
and, His fighting is amazing, but it's almost.
00:56:53
Like, every time they tried to go to her, I don't know if it
00:56:58
was just that he was feeling whatever she was feeling like.
00:57:01
Okay, they're coming at me and he could kind of sense it but
00:57:05
that do was slicing them down left and right.
00:57:07
Like I was very impressed by his fighting and also just the way
00:57:13
that they that they interact with each other because even
00:57:17
though it's clear that she is clearly, IE the dominant
00:57:21
personality in this, you know, in this partnership in this
00:57:25
relationship in this bond that they have like clearly the way
00:57:29
that they that they establish, it looks like the ice and I are
00:57:33
the superiors and the, the waters are kind of like their
00:57:39
their submissives. You know, it's kind of like a
00:57:41
role reversal but it's not in, that was shut up.
00:57:45
Anthony, I wasn't mean to me. Come on, man.
00:57:48
You know, I was thinking the same thing.
00:57:50
Hippies I was trying to think of different words so that our
00:57:53
minds wouldn't go there. But I mean thinking about it
00:57:57
like and without without without giving too much away, I don't
00:58:05
know if you want to know more about the ice of that I and the
00:58:08
bomb, they have with the waters. Yes, I do.
00:58:11
You do? Yes.
00:58:13
Okay, so before we get into that can we talk about?
00:58:17
Okay, Mike. Can we talk?
00:58:20
About Rosamund, Pike? How she just walks into that
00:58:24
room and she owns in bones of it.
00:58:28
Like, literally, literally she is, she owns every any room she
00:58:33
walks in and start roam, like, it doesn't matter like
00:58:36
everybody. This literally literally a
00:58:38
climax moment cuz everybody take the men, all paused women, All
00:58:41
Pause everybody pauses. But she walks in, it's just
00:58:44
like, and she was just, I mean, even when her won't win Lynn
00:58:48
walked in, they were Everybody kind of pause to they were like
00:58:52
you know when the extra meeting took his hood off and it's just
00:58:55
me and said, I'm laying and this is and introduce her and soon as
00:59:00
she walked in everyone's like oh shit, like their reputation
00:59:04
precedes them so much that it's just like if they know who that
00:59:08
you're one of them, they're just like, oh, okay cool.
00:59:11
Hey, whatever you need, I got you.
00:59:12
Yeah, I'll get your horses. I'll get you.
00:59:14
I'll get your bags. I got you this go up here
00:59:16
whenever you need it. This way.
00:59:18
Isn't it that? She walked in and and was only
00:59:22
introduced by her first name and then I think it was a big
00:59:24
Wayne's mom who was who, I guess they own that Tavern.
00:59:29
And she said Morena, I said Morena sarasu die.
00:59:33
Yeah. She saw her ring and all I said,
00:59:36
I wear ring with their colorizer Stone in it.
00:59:40
She saw him. She immediately knew who she
00:59:42
was. Yeah.
00:59:43
And and you give them the respect, they deserve.
00:59:47
Yes, she walked in. And everybody was like, Right?
00:59:51
Okay, I have a question about the ring now, do they do?
00:59:55
They need the Rings to focus their photos, their powers, or
00:59:59
can they do it without the ring in the books?
01:00:01
They don't need the rain, okay? Okay.
01:00:05
I don't know if that's because it kind of seemed like even in
01:00:07
the beginning with the fire type or whatever, the one in the red
01:00:10
coat. Like when she, when she killed
01:00:12
the guy like right there, and it looked like she was like
01:00:16
bawling, like, clenching her fists with the ring on it.
01:00:19
Mike She was like dry like she was driving power from it.
01:00:22
So I was just wondering if there was like, if they need if that
01:00:26
was absolutely necessary for them to I'm I'm like you, I was
01:00:30
thinking that because later, there's a scene between Marina
01:00:34
and Wayne where she's trying to get her to focus and I'm
01:00:38
thinking because this is not from, I'm thinking he's going to
01:00:41
be a part of what they want to do in the show to help viewers,
01:00:46
understand how they're focusing their powers.
01:00:50
It's okay, but you'll see later that it does, you don't need a
01:00:52
ring to do it. The intense your question.
01:00:56
I'm going to say no, they don't need the ring, okay?
01:00:59
It may be part of the training and maybe part of how they going
01:01:04
to do in the show, learning how to focus your powers and then
01:01:08
you just keep it but it's not they don't need it to do it.
01:01:13
Okay? So the Aisa die.
01:01:18
And you hear this later when people talk to eisah die they
01:01:23
will say their first name and said I hmm.
01:01:26
That's just the way they're addressed.
01:01:28
So the bond between a water and I said, I so the bond started
01:01:34
right after the breaking, when they needed to be protected
01:01:37
because the regular common folk didn't know who was breaking the
01:01:43
world, they just knew someone people who could Channel were
01:01:47
ripping Sit up. And so a lot of I said, I
01:01:52
realize we need guys Warriors secret protect us.
01:01:56
Okay, so they started bonding the strong Warriors to protect
01:02:01
them. Okay.
01:02:03
Now, A lot of times, it was against their will.
01:02:08
Hmm? And once you're a bonded, you
01:02:11
must do everything. The answer that I asked you to
01:02:14
do. OK, they have no choice.
01:02:18
So, if Marine tells land to do something whether or not he
01:02:23
wants to do it, is irrelevant, okay?
01:02:26
Now, she's not the type of person that would do that.
01:02:28
I was going to say, it doesn't appear that they have that type
01:02:31
of relationship, like they seem very Very well in tune with each
01:02:36
other and they seemed very protective and very respectful
01:02:42
of each other. You can for me, even though land
01:02:46
is one of those people, he doesn't say a lot, you know,
01:02:50
he's one of those quiet types but it kind of like Rosamund
01:02:55
Pike. He makes his presence known like
01:02:58
right and them together like it's almost like when they
01:03:03
converse with each. Other.
01:03:06
They really don't have to say a lot like I feel like because of
01:03:10
whatever that bond is that they can feel what what the other
01:03:13
person is feeling. It's almost like you're watching
01:03:17
a silent conversation with them is like they're speaking one
01:03:20
thing, like the part where she was looking and he said, do you
01:03:25
know who it is? And she was like, No And then he
01:03:29
just kind of looked at her. It's almost like he felt what
01:03:34
she was thinking. Like she said, No, I don't think
01:03:36
it's, I don't think it's one person.
01:03:38
I think at that point, she realized it might be more than
01:03:42
one person that could Channel, you know, and I don't know if
01:03:47
she can feel the one power or their potential in that person.
01:03:52
But the way that they spoke to each other's kind of like, okay,
01:03:56
they're having one conversation with their lips and then it's
01:04:00
almost like with their eyes, and their minds, they're having a
01:04:02
whole different conversation, but they are always in sync.
01:04:06
At least, you know, in this first episode, they seem to move
01:04:09
as one, like, she's doing something over here, and he's
01:04:12
doing something over here, but they're protecting each other at
01:04:17
the same time and their movements are very complementary
01:04:20
to each other. Yeah, a lot of it comes from
01:04:24
come from experience who seasoned experienced Warrior
01:04:28
benefits of the bomb, they fill each other's emotions.
01:04:33
They feel each other's pain with the word.
01:04:38
Watch each other's backs and the hot tubs.
01:04:40
Yeah. Ooh yes yeah that's the water if
01:04:46
he's already a superb Warrior like Lan.
01:04:49
Is he basically threw the bomb becomes like Captain America.
01:04:54
He has increased stamina increased strength, increased
01:04:58
speed, increase healing and he's gonna stay This way until he
01:05:05
dies of old age, okay? Like he even when he's an old
01:05:08
man, he'll still be just as strong and fast, as powerful as
01:05:12
he is. Now, that's awesome.
01:05:15
That's pretty cool. Now, that that's how it is in
01:05:18
the books. There's some other stuff I could
01:05:22
tell you, but they might be too much.
01:05:24
But yes, you men can be bonded against their will and it's not
01:05:28
and you can have Waters and it is you combine.
01:05:30
The anyone is this that they chose to bond men who could
01:05:37
protect them. Okay, she bonded land for a
01:05:40
reason and but we'll learn more about that later.
01:05:44
Okay. Now the other thing that I
01:05:46
noticed in regards to Moraine and I can't Remember what?
01:05:51
The red. Asha.
01:05:54
I can't remember what her name is.
01:05:56
The blond chick at the beginning.
01:05:58
Little Andhra. Yes, yes.
01:06:01
Now I noticed she The n. And let me ask this question
01:06:07
also about the other episodes that we've seen the reds, don't
01:06:12
have Waters correct. They do like they are, they are
01:06:16
their own. It's kind of like they're their
01:06:18
own Warrior group and I get the feeling that they are not
01:06:24
particularly appreciative of men, like they, they're the ones
01:06:28
that that hate men or something. Shit, all kinds of dip.
01:06:53
So yeah. Yeah cuz it's like if she was
01:06:55
she was talking about him like almost like since he like when
01:06:59
he has the magic flowing through him shoot, she's acting like he
01:07:02
was getting the magic dirty like Like Ziggy in that filthy you
01:07:06
like he was painting a gift and you're getting it filled, it was
01:07:09
already tail. And there is don't believe that
01:07:13
men should Channel. They believe that the 1 power is
01:07:17
only for women, okay? That's where my confusion was
01:07:20
coming in, because that's why I thought that's what the the
01:07:24
actual thing was with them because I remember her saying
01:07:27
that, so I was like, oh, so the women are the only ones that
01:07:31
supposed to have a. So when you said something about
01:07:33
male I said I That's why I was like huh so three thousand years
01:07:37
of lot. A lot of things can change.
01:07:40
That's true. That is true with a lot of
01:07:42
things. Stay the same to unfortunate.
01:07:47
Yeah, the Reds if you re coming man, your dude and you're not
01:07:51
challenge, you don't Channel, you can't Channel then I have a
01:07:54
problem with you, okay? But if you don't man and you can
01:07:57
Channel your problem and you taken care of So, let me ask you
01:08:02
this question. If you can answer it, what are
01:08:07
for each? Genre with the color associated,
01:08:11
what is their designation like? Reds?
01:08:13
Know what? Harry Reid is not military.
01:08:15
Oh, well, they really do like militant now, they do militants.
01:08:20
Alerting, the Fire Nation. Water Nation.
01:08:24
Here we go again. Yeah, it's Greece.
01:08:27
Are you today, right? Yeah, literally I mean if you
01:08:32
can't answer that's fine but I was hurting you answer it and it
01:08:36
not be a spoiler because we haven't.
01:08:40
Okay, it's alright. So we've seen the red, you see,
01:08:44
Moraine is Blue Blues are. I think think of the Blues is
01:08:55
like CIA? Okay, no, one really knows what
01:08:58
they're up to. They just off doing their own
01:09:01
thing. Okay?
01:09:03
They can be gone from the tire for years and no one know what
01:09:07
they're up to. And the the tower is where the I
01:09:10
said I reside. Yes, the White Tower tar valon.
01:09:14
Okay, it's interesting. You if you look up a map of tar
01:09:18
valon, have you seen what the map looks like?
01:09:22
Know. What is it look like?
01:09:24
No, just okay. I'll go, we have a chance.
01:09:27
Go look. Okay.
01:09:30
I haven't seen it but I have a good idea what it might look
01:09:32
like. So okay, so blue think of the
01:09:36
Blues is like the CIA rids, then your militant group.
01:09:43
They don't lose you usually just have one water.
01:09:46
Well, they always have one. Worker res.
01:09:48
Don't have Waters. They are your militant me and
01:09:53
him channel. Should be stilled gentled or
01:09:57
killed Then you have your green sisters.
01:10:02
They are the bat Elijah. That's the military.
01:10:06
They're the ones that will have three, four, five, Seas Waters.
01:10:12
Aries purposes. They will have one sometimes
01:10:16
who's usually a badass but they're the ones that that got
01:10:20
there may their bones during the battle.
01:10:23
During one of the first battles, okay.
01:10:27
Green bin is the brown. We haven't met any brown yet.
01:10:31
I think we've seen a yellow I think that.
01:10:35
Yeah, I think this in one of the later episode, when we observe
01:10:40
the brown there into knowledge, I always think of the Browns is
01:10:43
like monks, no case. I'll be really concerned about
01:10:47
his knowledge, then you have the green agreeing.
01:10:54
Yellow, yellow are the healers, okay, green, yellow white, They
01:11:04
are into philosophy. Okay, then the gray Asia are
01:11:11
pretty much trying to make sure everyone is.
01:11:14
Okay, they look for consensus. You try to balance everything
01:11:18
out there, the okay, okay, I was gonna say are they the people
01:11:22
Pleasers? But no.
01:11:23
Yes, okay, okay, yeah, okay, now here's another question that I
01:11:28
have because, again, we talked about this, this chalak attack
01:11:33
on all the villages and everything and ran to his
01:11:36
father. They are They are, they live up
01:11:39
the mountain. So I don't think they're part of
01:11:41
the village, but also not a part of the village.
01:11:44
Am I correct in that department? They're probably the village,
01:11:47
but he's like a their ship. He's like a Shepherd.
01:11:50
Okay. So they live in the mountains.
01:11:52
So one of the chalak scums to their cabin and attacks them, is
01:11:58
there any significant? So when they start fighting his
01:12:02
father, pulls out weapons from like, AB under the bed from
01:12:06
hiding, like, almost Like they were never meant to see the
01:12:11
light of day again, but he pulls these out.
01:12:13
He knew what the trollops were and he's fighting these try.
01:12:17
Looks like he's fought them before.
01:12:19
And one of the things that happens is he pulls out a sword
01:12:24
and when he pulls the sword out the camera, very specifically
01:12:28
focuses on. I think it looks like a heron on
01:12:31
the hilt of the sword. Is that something that's going
01:12:34
to be important later on because they don't really reference It
01:12:38
again, in the first, like I said, for five episodes that are
01:12:42
already out, but is that going to be something important later
01:12:45
on? Hmm.
01:12:47
Okay, that's what I need to know.
01:12:48
Okay, okay, the other thing is wild, the tropics are attacking
01:12:57
the village and everything. Nine Avis carried off by 19.
01:13:03
He's not Nev 98. She is carried off by one.
01:13:08
And you know, egwene Witnesses this.
01:13:13
And you know, she's trying to help everyone else.
01:13:15
Like I said, they are cutting down people in the village,
01:13:18
luckily her parents, both seem to survive, Matt and his folks
01:13:24
survive and the sisters. Like we said Perrin,
01:13:28
unfortunately, he survives but he accidentally kills his wife
01:13:32
in the process and then while rants father is fighting the
01:13:37
trial Like he basically tells ran to leave.
01:13:40
He's like, go, go, go. You have to leave.
01:13:43
And I felt like, okay. So whatever happens at towards
01:13:48
the end when Moran says you, you know, one of you for might be
01:13:54
able to channel and just and other.
01:13:56
I felt like his dad already knew that because he was so intent on
01:14:00
you, go, you go save yourself. Get out of here, and I mean,
01:14:06
they were able to kill the child.
01:14:07
He, you know, he got his father to the village for assistance to
01:14:14
help heal him because he did get injured during this fight.
01:14:17
But when Moraine tells them, okay, you guys have to come with
01:14:21
me to try Alex were here for you.
01:14:23
It could be one of you for someone of the four of you can
01:14:26
Channel mad magic or channel. The one power you have to we
01:14:30
have to leave immediately because if not the chocolates
01:14:33
are going to follow us and then literally you can see in the
01:14:35
distance. All of these little Oil fire
01:14:38
lights coming down from the mountain and it supposedly
01:14:41
hundreds and hundreds of products.
01:14:43
Coming to the Village again. After these, you know, kids, I
01:14:47
keep saying kids, but, you know, so at the end of the episode,
01:14:51
they get on horses and they have to leave the village and they go
01:14:53
with marine and land and it's just one of those things where
01:14:58
it's like, I felt like his dad knew that that was going to
01:15:04
happen or was anticipating that something like that.
01:15:07
Can happen. And then again like I said, he
01:15:10
got into the fight, they showcase the little, you know,
01:15:14
the little symbol on the sword. And I was like, okay, there's
01:15:18
more to his story, which I hope will find out.
01:15:21
But of course, you know, five episodes in, we don't go back to
01:15:25
the two rivers. So I don't know what's going on
01:15:27
with Dad, or if we'll see dad, again to find out more about
01:15:31
this story, but I just thought that was really interesting.
01:15:34
Like why are they focusing on this little bird on Hill?
01:15:38
Okay. Huh.
01:15:41
No comment. Yeah, yeah.
01:15:43
He's a part of the House of Hair on.
01:15:45
I mean, Anthony did say something about houses in this
01:15:50
soul. Anthony.
01:15:54
I'm not saying it but what I'm thinking about certain person's,
01:15:57
father, may I be correct in thinking, that that may be
01:16:02
something that we might have guessed.
01:16:05
Is that big enough that was real.
01:16:09
It was really big. Okay, okay.
01:16:14
Okay. There's there's there's let's
01:16:17
just say that that, that may be someone who has a sword from
01:16:21
their father to Father, may have had another life before the
01:16:24
village is that is if that's what I'm thinking is Frankie
01:16:28
from the way, the way that the kind of shot that whole scene
01:16:33
with him fighting it, that's all Most obvious right?
01:16:36
Not knowing not knowing if I'm looking at it and pretending
01:16:40
that I don't know, I would like wait a second.
01:16:43
He's supposed to be just a sheep herder.
01:16:45
He said there, he's if he was younger, he would have cut that
01:16:49
trolley down easily. Write almost the same way that
01:16:52
land was doing it. Right, right.
01:16:55
That's what I was trying. Not to, I think this one seems.
01:16:59
Were you see it on screen, right?
01:17:02
Okay, okay. I'll just say what?
01:17:05
Order to answering that question with, okay.
01:17:09
You know what? No he wasn't.
01:17:10
Awarded that's not his fault. Okay, moving toward all right.
01:17:13
So so he's the other, he's the other but I got my answer.
01:17:20
Your actual podcast you know I'm cutting all the thing is this I
01:17:38
read the first book and first of all, then getting from the
01:17:42
cottage to the Village took three and a half hours in the
01:17:45
audiobook. Seriously it literally took
01:17:48
three hours to go from the cabin.
01:17:50
And to the Village to deliver the Brandy absent are going is
01:17:54
on pages of him talking about. And so that's when I start
01:18:04
reading the book. Yes, okay.
01:18:20
Yes. Oh yeah.
01:18:21
Oh yeah, but but what was what was I guess?
01:18:24
What I'm saying is that, like it?
01:18:26
Like we said earlier, you could just tick off a list of things
01:18:29
because Well, I'm not going to say there's another part, which
01:18:32
is the only one because remember nine Eve is not from the two
01:18:36
rivers, right? Right.
01:18:40
Y'all her. I kind of got it.
01:18:43
Yeah. Cause she's from Essence field,
01:18:47
but yes, she's not, she's not from the two rivers.
01:18:51
Yes, I got. I got that part which again, but
01:18:55
there's something going on with that, too.
01:18:57
Which I haven't got to yet, but I have an idea.
01:18:59
So my, so my thing is that all right, we get that tan is
01:19:03
probably not originally a sheep herd.
01:19:06
Not the most exciting career, but a someone's got this know,
01:19:09
this is true because, you know, growing up because he knows how
01:19:18
to be a Seaport of. So he came back to be a sea
01:19:20
Predator. Yeah, yeah it's obvious that he
01:19:24
knows how to do it. I'm just anyway, I'm just
01:19:28
there's a reason. And take all my uncle's far
01:19:30
because I didn't want to be a farmer.
01:19:33
But my thing is, is that I well, I'm gonna have a question.
01:19:42
I can ask you can ask a question that doesn't mean no.
01:19:47
Don't let her ask the question because then Mike and I will
01:19:50
start our gives our start turning and will be like yeah,
01:19:55
no, no. I was just curious about tan
01:19:57
because I I think I know where that might go, but that's what
01:20:01
my other question about the whole thing is that, that whole
01:20:07
discussion that they have at the beginning of the book, which
01:20:11
they don't really show in the episode where they're
01:20:13
discussing, you know, news of events happening in other
01:20:17
Villages. The whole thing with the mayor
01:20:19
and all of that. Does any part of these books?
01:20:23
Do they ever go back to the two rivers or is it once they're
01:20:28
gone? They're gone bad.
01:20:29
To be a spoiler. Okay?
01:20:31
Yeah, okay, okay. I'm trying to think there was
01:20:34
one other question that I had. And I can't think of it.
01:20:40
So I think of it later, I think of it later.
01:20:44
But yeah, as far as is it tan or tam-tam?
01:20:49
Okay. Tam.
01:20:50
Yeah, it's obvious that he Bilbo Baggins somewhere in his life.
01:20:57
Like he went on some kind of little adventure and I don't
01:21:00
know, I guess I kind of feel like, with the way that he
01:21:03
pulled his weapons out, like I said, it almost felt like he was
01:21:07
hiding the Weapons. Because when he pulled them out
01:21:09
and started fighting ran was looking at him.
01:21:11
Like what the fuck? Where the hell did this come
01:21:13
from? So I feel like whatever he was
01:21:18
doing in his life where he needed those weapons.
01:21:20
Like, he probably came back to his village because he was
01:21:25
hiding from something or he was running away from something, or
01:21:28
he was, he was putting some part of his life in the rearview
01:21:33
mirror, so to speak saying, okay, you know what, that part
01:21:36
of my life is gone? I'm not I'm not going to touch
01:21:38
that again. But of course, when you have
01:21:41
those types of people or those types of stories where they may
01:21:44
have gone, they may have, you know, been some kind of warrior
01:21:48
or whatever even though they they come back and they put that
01:21:53
part of themselves away. It's always there just in case,
01:21:59
you know, because like I said, when the trolley showed up in
01:22:02
the in his house, I'm not going to say that.
01:22:07
He was surprised, but I'm not going to say, he wasn't
01:22:11
surprised either, you know, it's kind of like oh the traffic is
01:22:14
here. Oh okay, let me get this.
01:22:16
Let me start fighting because it's like he fell into that real
01:22:20
quick. He didn't have time to Blink.
01:22:23
He didn't have time to think about it.
01:22:25
He didn't is like he automatically went into battle
01:22:28
mode. Like this is something he's used
01:22:31
to, you know, because obviously we've seen this in another
01:22:35
character and somebody else we watch.
01:22:37
But in the wisdom that he was thinking something was going to
01:22:41
happen or respecting, it was eventually it's just he's been
01:22:45
trained in such a way that he can turn it on and stuff and
01:22:51
it's not this what he was expecting trucks to come.
01:22:54
It's just that oh, there's a trolley, I don't know what to
01:22:56
do. Right?
01:22:57
Yeah me it was more that muscle memory that that sort of thing
01:23:01
where he just pulls it to call mode and and he turns it on, Oh
01:23:08
yeah. It's kind of like again, if he
01:23:11
is used to fighting or if he has been used to fighting, once that
01:23:16
danger comes in or once that, you know, whatever that conflict
01:23:20
is, is almost like he was able to spring into action without
01:23:23
thinking about it. Whereas somebody else like a
01:23:25
parent or a Rand, or Matt or someone like that.
01:23:30
When they first started getting attacked like big Wayne was
01:23:34
dancing with someone. And what happened was, why We
01:23:37
were dancing. He just all of a sudden because
01:23:41
he had a spear that was thrown into his chest from behind and
01:23:46
she's sitting there looking at this Spear and it's almost like
01:23:50
it wasn't comprehend. Like she wasn't comprehending
01:23:53
that the person in front of her head literally just been killed
01:23:57
by the spear that's poking out of his chest and it took it took
01:24:00
a minute for her mind to catch up with what was going on.
01:24:03
Because by this point, Charlie looks are coming from
01:24:06
everywhere. People are Screaming before she
01:24:08
realized, oh, shit were being attacked and Tam, didn't have
01:24:12
any of that, kind of reaction, any of that kind of shock is
01:24:14
like chalak. Oh, okay.
01:24:16
Let me start with his mask, and that's what he starts doing.
01:24:19
So I thought that was interesting as well, because I
01:24:23
was like, yeah, there's a story there, there's a story with him,
01:24:27
you know. But the other thing that we see
01:24:31
in this episode during this trial like battle, and that I
01:24:37
will say. Moran, of course, is fighting,
01:24:42
you know, and she's fighting. She's using the one power to
01:24:45
fight. These trolleys, she's bringing
01:24:46
down houses. She's throwing bricks out of the
01:24:48
walls and she gets stabbed with one of the Spears and land takes
01:24:54
it out and she continues to fight.
01:24:56
But what happens is when Rand brings his father to the Village
01:25:00
to be healed. She's able to heal the father
01:25:04
But she still hurt and this is something we learned later on.
01:25:08
I think a couple of episodes from now.
01:25:12
I said I can't heal themselves. They can heal other people but
01:25:15
they can't heal themselves. And it was it's weird too
01:25:19
because thinking about what we just discussed about town.
01:25:23
He was kind of sort of out of it.
01:25:25
When ran brought him to the village and as soon as Moraine
01:25:28
healed him and he opened his eyes, he looked at her and then
01:25:34
the camera pans to ran, like he's making this connection and
01:25:39
that's why I felt like, okay, he knows something else about
01:25:43
whatever this is because he's just looking at Moraine Almost
01:25:50
like, oh, is that time? And I was like, what does he
01:25:54
know? And I know you can't say
01:25:56
anything if he knows anything, but it was just one of those
01:25:59
things. The camera work here really
01:26:02
gives you something to think about the way that they kind of
01:26:05
pan onto the characters at certain moments.
01:26:08
It's like, if you weren't thinking about it, it could be
01:26:11
just random but like specifically, especially with
01:26:15
him. The sigil on the hilt, the very
01:26:20
pointed way. He's looking at Moran.
01:26:21
I was like, and then he looks at his son.
01:26:23
I'm like, yeah, he knows something.
01:26:27
He knows something, because when she starts talking to them
01:26:31
saying that, you know, the dark, the dark one is coming and only
01:26:35
one of you will be able to stand against him and she's talking to
01:26:39
all of them. And she's telling them, they
01:26:41
have to leave. It's almost like you don't, you
01:26:46
don't get the reactions of the parents, but it's like the fact
01:26:48
that all of, you know, those for they get up and they leave so
01:26:53
that they can save this Village again.
01:26:55
I felt I felt like Raz. Father, knew something about
01:27:00
what was going on, so, It's going to be interesting though,
01:27:07
because you have these four kids, like she says, you've
01:27:11
lived in these mountains for too long pretending that the lives.
01:27:14
You know, pretending that what happens outside in the world
01:27:18
doesn't affect you squeeze mom. His mom says, as much early
01:27:23
earlier, she's like, Wars are fought by fools with fools over
01:27:29
foolish things, and Wars happening all the time and we
01:27:33
don't, we don't worry about that stuff.
01:27:36
Ya know that we can't have this now?
01:27:39
Yes. Like, they're very sheltered
01:27:41
like this corner of the world is their only Corner because none
01:27:45
of them even knew what a try like was, you know, like I said,
01:27:48
Tam obviously knew because he knew how to fight them and he,
01:27:51
he handled himself very well. I think, if he wasn't worried
01:27:55
about ran, he probably could have killed that trollop with no
01:27:58
problem, but you've got looks and of Tropics.
01:28:02
They've never seen them be there.
01:28:05
Their myths. You know, they're these
01:28:07
preachers that they use the scared of the kids.
01:28:09
It would kind of be like if a dragon showed up all of a sudden
01:28:13
for us, we be like, wait, those really exist?
01:28:16
Yeah. So but yeah, I really enjoyed
01:28:22
this first episode like really enjoyed it.
01:28:25
I wasn't too sure about it because again I didn't know much
01:28:29
about I just knew the the book series was popular.
01:28:33
I know a lot of people read them.
01:28:35
Like I said, one of my old mentors has been trying to get
01:28:38
me to read it for years and again, just there, there's so
01:28:41
much out there like it's on my tubing to be red, fox file, you
01:28:45
know, it's in that stack of books.
01:28:47
Let us book hoarders always have and I just hadn't gotten around
01:28:53
to it. So then, when I heard that they
01:28:54
were doing the show was like, okay, well I probably watched
01:28:57
the show first because as book readers, we know whenever they
01:29:00
adapt something from a book series is never the way we read
01:29:05
it. And I felt like I didn't want to
01:29:09
go into the show and be one of those people.
01:29:13
Oh, that's not how it happened in the book, and that's not how
01:29:15
it was like in the books. I was like, okay, I'm just I'm
01:29:17
going to leave the books alone for now.
01:29:19
Let me see how this first season is that, how they do it and then
01:29:22
I may go in and read the books. But my question for you, Anthony
01:29:27
so far, how does it rate as an adaptation?
01:29:32
Like, are they sticking close to the books?
01:29:34
With what you, what you know, so far?
01:29:37
Like how far I have you have you watched all five episodes so
01:29:40
far? Yes, okay.
01:29:42
So how does it right to you, without spoiling anything?
01:29:45
How does it rank as an adaptation for you?
01:29:48
I think they've okay as a person who really really likes books
01:29:53
and and those are great deal about it.
01:29:55
I will save it was some things that I kind of questioned like
01:30:00
the decisions. Hmm.
01:30:02
But if I'm being perfectly honest, if you're watching it
01:30:07
and not having ever read the books, I can see how people
01:30:11
should actually enjoy it. I mean, I don't really find
01:30:14
anything wrong with it as an adaptation, the thing.
01:30:17
Is the books. What happens in the books is
01:30:20
very hard to adapt and they've tried before and it has never
01:30:26
worked out, okay? Because it's really difficult to
01:30:28
do parent is the most difficult thing.
01:30:32
You have to deal with because he's such a major character but
01:30:36
you really can't adapt his storyline to a TV show.
01:30:40
It would it would basically have to be a TV show just about him
01:30:43
in order for you to understand. Wow, what happens.
01:30:47
Okay. I think it's really good at it
01:30:52
as a patient. Okay.
01:30:55
I know why the book readers have issues with it and I think a lot
01:30:58
of it is veiled racism to be honest with you because all I
01:31:03
hear most of the time is 0. They don't look like how I
01:31:08
thought they were little girls. I think this person could have
01:31:10
played them and they do these lists of, this is how I should
01:31:14
have. I would have cast it and it's
01:31:16
ya. Bunch of white people.
01:31:17
You. Okay?
01:31:19
And that's that. Yeah, imagine that.
01:31:22
So, as far as I understand why they make some of the decisions
01:31:27
they made parent, having a wife and killing her.
01:31:30
That helps explain his character down the line, okay?
01:31:33
It's going to be very important for him.
01:31:35
Okay. Aging them up and having a
01:31:40
sexual relationship between ran in.
01:31:44
The gwaine is going to be important that a lot.
01:31:47
Okay. Okay, because there's some
01:31:50
things that that have to happen for the, two of them to get
01:31:55
where they need to be okay and it would make it so much easier
01:31:59
to understand the relationship. And how other people are not
01:32:04
going to understand their relationship, but we will
01:32:07
understand their relationship. Okay?
01:32:10
Okay. Okay.
01:32:13
The other thing that I want to talk about, and this doesn't
01:32:16
have to do with the actual show. Per se, is that intro Intro with
01:32:24
the weaving of the threads and the drawing of the isid.
01:32:29
I've the, what do you calling the IG has thousands.
01:32:33
Oh my God. That is it.
01:32:35
It's very Captivate. It's kind of like I think I felt
01:32:40
watching this intro, the same way I did watching the
01:32:45
west-world intro for the first time.
01:32:48
It was just so beautiful and I just sat there.
01:32:52
Like it took me a minute to realize that they were actually
01:32:55
weaving. It was just the way the colors
01:32:59
and the way that they drew the women and how it, the tapestry
01:33:03
it was just really beautiful. And I was just like sitting
01:33:07
there watching this like mouth open like, oh my God, this is
01:33:11
one of the prettiest things I've ever seen in the intro.
01:33:15
It was gorgeous. But, yeah, that's all I want to
01:33:17
say about it was. It's a, it's a very, it's a,
01:33:20
very beautifully, created intro. And not only that.
01:33:25
I like the look of the show, you know, for it being for it being
01:33:30
fantasy, it's a little bit, it's a little bit darker.
01:33:35
Towards the beginning than I expected.
01:33:39
Now, it is darker than than the books.
01:33:42
The books are. Okay, not just start.
01:33:45
Okay, there's a lot. There's a lot of
01:33:47
lightheartedness in the books. Okay, isn't it right?
01:33:52
Glory. The books.
01:33:56
Okay, when I first started listening to the audiobook, I
01:33:59
immediately stopped it looked at it.
01:34:01
I was like, oh my God, who made Dungeons and Dragons and put it
01:34:04
into a book form. I mean, you know, from the old
01:34:07
cartoon series, that's how it sounds on audio.
01:34:10
It's like hello, villager, how are you today?
01:34:12
Oh, we must not upset Farmers so-and-so because we're going to
01:34:16
the festival today. I mean that's literally the kind
01:34:18
of out. Yeah, it's very light-hearted.
01:34:20
Okay. Well, that veerle heart.
01:34:22
It has a lot of lightheartedness in it and You don't really get
01:34:26
that if this show right, right, it's very dark and I see that
01:34:31
they've gone to Game of Thrones dark with this like may be gone
01:34:37
more mature, you know, more graphic, right?
01:34:42
This darker and we'll see if this pays off.
01:34:46
I think, I think is going to help get that audience.
01:34:50
The the people who still want more Game of Thrones, okay?
01:34:54
It's going to get the audience and they're just going to say to
01:34:57
hell with the book readers. We don't really just forget you
01:35:00
guys y'all go, right? I mean, the showrunner claims to
01:35:04
be a big fan of the books and a lot of this he's trying to do
01:35:09
some justice to we and to try to keep the spirit.
01:35:12
Irit. Okay, but novels, and and try to
01:35:15
help explain a lot of things. We'll talk later about this last
01:35:21
episode because there is a scene at the end where people like
01:35:26
that character would never do that.
01:35:28
Well, I can make argument that, he would.
01:35:33
Okay, know what I know about him in the books.
01:35:35
Yeah, we had talked about. Yeah, we're going to have to
01:35:37
hurry up and catch up. Okay.
01:35:41
Yeah, let's not go. There we have any final thoughts
01:35:44
on this first episode in the my kids they have, I will hear Mike
01:35:46
ever say he didn't say the whole lot.
01:35:49
I'm I look this is this this is basically how I was in discovery
01:35:54
of witches. It's like, I'm basically
01:35:56
listening to you guys and catching up on my own.
01:35:58
So this is like I really like this.
01:36:02
Shout out to to egg wins. Mom, like roughly shoving her
01:36:07
off the cliff, instead of like Wayne.
01:36:09
You know, just like it. Going big waves, mom.
01:36:12
Just going like, yeah. And like eating her off the
01:36:14
cliff. I was like yo, damn, like it was
01:36:18
really a But I knew I was like well there's really no other
01:36:21
way. She could do it.
01:36:21
Like she kind of has to get in the water so it's like, but I
01:36:25
mean, she'd learn deleted that you did life and limb out of
01:36:27
her. Also shout-out to all the
01:36:31
insurance adjusters who are going to have going to be like,
01:36:34
what the hell happened to this building after after what's her
01:36:37
name through every brick at all? Those trollops.
01:36:40
I was like, I could, if I was what's-their-names, if I was, if
01:36:45
I was her mom, I would have been like, that's my Pub.
01:36:48
Like that's totally goes, don't do something from the blacksmith
01:36:52
shop, like those something from there.
01:36:54
I was just wondering how it was like is everyone out of there
01:36:57
while she's throwing bricks from the buildings.
01:36:59
Like is everyone out because you know, some people ran into some
01:37:03
of the buildings for Shelter From The Trolley so I was like
01:37:07
okay I hope she's not accidentally killing people
01:37:09
while she's trying to save people.
01:37:12
Right. It's just yeah it's the which
01:37:13
makes it shows that she's a typical superhero because she
01:37:16
saves the day and but she creates all kinds of damage
01:37:20
around her so she's just like Superman so good job.
01:37:23
They don't have a slush fund cover all of that, right?
01:37:28
There's no Bruce Wayne to help cover all that, maybe there's,
01:37:31
yeah, I really like this. I meant to it.
01:37:34
I'm, I'm waiting, I can't wait to see what comes up next
01:37:39
because I'm a little behind you guys.
01:37:40
Once I But I'm really anxious to kind of get caught up and see
01:37:43
what see what's going on with get caught up because I'm going
01:37:46
to tell you episodes, 4 5, whoa, whoa okay yeah, yeah, haven't
01:37:52
seen five yet, I've seen for but I'm excited to see it.
01:37:57
He's good. And how many episodes is this
01:38:01
show? Is this a 10 episode Arc?
01:38:03
Um, that's a good question. I think is hate, okay?
01:38:07
It's going to be 8. Okay, because this is a an
01:38:10
Amazon Serious. Either your tan.
01:38:13
Okay. Okay, I'm not sure.
01:38:17
The only thing I will say I'm going to be fair because I did
01:38:21
this with Shadow and Bone. Sometimes vocabulary languages
01:38:26
words can be a little off-putting and I know what the
01:38:33
words mean and I know what their significance is.
01:38:36
For example, to viren. She says oh we're going to go to
01:38:40
the two rivers. Because there are 42 viren there
01:38:43
ain't one of them might be the dragon reborn so we never hear
01:38:49
about to veering again. We never hear that term again.
01:38:51
So they're five, right? Because nine Eve would be but
01:38:57
she's not to viren. The then she goes, you copy.
01:39:01
We can't talk about that yet because they don't talk, we
01:39:05
don't find that out until we know, well, that wasn't this
01:39:09
episode. When Marine went to talk to her
01:39:12
when she was watching, the stones tiny was watching the
01:39:15
thing. And she was trying to figure out
01:39:16
how old she was. Hmm.
01:39:18
Because right now the mat parent ran and he going all 29, Eve is
01:39:26
25. 20 decide the guy in the beginning that there is sister's
01:39:33
car. Okay, he was too old so they
01:39:36
know it's not her. That's why she was focusing on
01:39:38
the 42 viren but they don't explain where to Varanasi, okay?
01:39:42
And five episodes in may still having.
01:39:45
So, why even use the term in the beginning?
01:39:47
Anyway, To appease your book fans.
01:39:53
And I know the whole purpose of the nine Eve.
01:39:56
The Nanny scene is because Moraine didn't have any
01:40:00
information on her. So when she got there and she
01:40:04
saw, oh, this young lady's of wisdom.
01:40:07
I wonder how old she is, that's why she was poking her.
01:40:10
That's what blew sisters do. She started poking her for
01:40:13
information so you got your breeches.
01:40:15
I gamma ray five years. Oh so you're 25.
01:40:18
So Yeah, so I know she knew how she was.
01:40:21
Okay, now I'm looking online in the background so apparently
01:40:27
they have already been renewed for season 2.
01:40:31
Yes. Okay, they're Nine episodes in
01:40:33
this series in this room is mine.
01:40:35
Okay, okay. Okay, my thing is as far as
01:40:40
reading the book series as compared to the book TV series,
01:40:44
I actually went to buy the first book a few weeks ago and I found
01:40:48
out that they're my audible in my obsessive book line that I
01:40:52
actually had the first four books of the series.
01:40:54
I don't remember my no, but I got it.
01:40:56
My thing is, that's, that's how I am.
01:40:58
I'll find whole series going on. Why did I had that?
01:41:01
But the thing is that, in my defense, in the early, Early
01:41:06
90s. I was one of those rabid
01:41:10
feminists. Science fiction fantasy writers,
01:41:12
where I refuse to read anything written by men.
01:41:15
It was all Mercedes lack LeAndre, Norton, you know, all
01:41:18
of that. Right?
01:41:20
So I wouldn't read any male writers for a good 15 years, so
01:41:26
I didn't read not read on purpose.
01:41:28
I just didn't read it because it wasn't what I was wanting to
01:41:30
read at the time, but I am kicking myself because just like
01:41:34
Game of Thrones, I wish I would have Read these when they came
01:41:37
out because I think it will that be a little bit more obsessive
01:41:41
than I that I have. No, I mean, I'm getting into it
01:41:44
and everyone knows. We're not kidding ourselves.
01:41:46
You guys both know that, by the end of Say J, where I've read,
01:41:49
I'll read all the books. So, you know, but my thing is,
01:41:53
is that I did myself a discern, but I really like the series is
01:41:59
just, my only nitpick is that, like, most great series.
01:42:03
You gotta, like, Mazatlán and all that this for you.
01:42:06
Got to really go through the really slow B to get to the good
01:42:10
part. So that's what I'm hating right
01:42:11
now. Okay, I do want to make this
01:42:15
note before we close out. So I'm looking at some of the
01:42:19
cast that they have added for season 2.
01:42:22
You know, exactly what I'm about to say, don't you answer me.
01:42:25
So, our boy Dominico from a discovery which is going to be
01:42:28
in season 2 of this show. Whoo, I saw that I was like I
01:42:37
just got here in like that, love, like, because the photo
01:42:40
that they have on this article that I'm looking at in
01:42:42
background, looking at the deadline article, he doesn't
01:42:45
look as tan as he does, in the discovery of witches, cousin,
01:42:48
discovery of witches. He's a little bit.
01:42:51
His skin tone is a little bit darker like he's been sitting in
01:42:54
the sun forever in this picture. He's a little bit more pale.
01:42:59
So I was looking at him. I like I was like Domenico so I
01:43:03
look them up and I'm like, yep. Because I never knew the actors.
01:43:06
Name. And I'm not even going to try to
01:43:08
butcher his his last name because it's, it's quite long.
01:43:12
But yeah. So he's going to be in the show.
01:43:14
So I'm like, yay. I get to look at his face for at
01:43:18
least another year. So that's awesome.
01:43:22
But any final thoughts on episode 1 of will of time.
01:43:29
Shout out to the women Circle who slaughtered at rollick with
01:43:33
pitchforks then the battle I thought It was awesome.
01:43:38
So on you but the strength and resolve of the three, women
01:43:44
really do get this done. Yes, they really do.
01:43:48
And on that note, that's it for our show.
