What's up hybrids? Welcome back to another episode
00:00:27
of the Phantom Hybrid Podcast. This is Hanukkah and I'm here
00:00:30
with Dina and we are discussing season 8, episode 3 of
00:00:35
Outlander. And unfortunately, Michelle is
00:00:38
not joining us tonight, but I'm sure she has some things to say
00:00:43
about this episode. So we will get her thoughts on
00:00:46
the next recording. But OK, so I'm going to say
00:00:53
this. There are some things about this
00:00:55
episode I had some issues with. OK, not bad, not bad.
00:01:00
There was just some things going on that I was just kind of like
00:01:03
looking and I was just like, OK, I, I'm going to have to bring
00:01:07
that up. The first thing is, and I think
00:01:10
we're all in agreement about this, I need Jamie to get over
00:01:13
himself. I, I, I'm, it's, it's really,
00:01:18
it's really getting to the point where he's starting to work my
00:01:20
nerves about this whole Lord John.
00:01:23
Yeah, no, I agree. I was.
00:01:25
I was going to be one of my main gripes.
00:01:30
He definitely. I get it, he holds a grudge.
00:01:33
He's a jealous man. I totally understand that.
00:01:36
But here's the other thing. Do you honestly think that this
00:01:39
woman who thought you were dead and didn't have any hopes of you
00:01:42
returning because literally the people who would know you were
00:01:45
dead said you were dead? Do you honestly think she would
00:01:49
never be with anybody else? I mean let's just be real, when
00:01:51
the first time y'all separated, you had a whole lover even
00:01:55
though you obviously didn't love that Lady, but you had a whole
00:01:58
lover. You had a whole relationship,
00:02:00
you know, because you thought you would never see Claire
00:02:02
again. Yeah.
00:02:04
And so death is a little more final than going through the
00:02:07
stone, you know what I mean? And so I kind of feel like he's.
00:02:09
I think it's because it's John. And you know, I think that too,
00:02:15
because I thought the same thing.
00:02:16
I'm like, OK, Jamie, so I understand like the two the two
00:02:20
times that he didn't, you know, that he had relations while
00:02:25
Claire was gone, even though those were not ideal situations.
00:02:29
Still, he thought in his mind Claire was dead, right?
00:02:32
She's 200 years in the future. He has no way of.
00:02:37
I mean, there's no reason for him to think that she would ever
00:02:39
come back, you know, especially if she thinks that he died of
00:02:42
collide. So you had your one little thing
00:02:47
before you went off to Arts Mirror, and then you had your
00:02:50
one little thing with Geneva, which, again, neither situation
00:02:54
was ideal. Neither situation was even your
00:02:58
plan, you know what I'm saying? So I get it.
00:03:01
But still, it's like she doesn't hold that over you.
00:03:06
Yeah. I mean, you have a whole child.
00:03:09
Yeah, because of one of those dalliances, right?
00:03:12
Oh, let's not forget you marry her arch enemy even though you
00:03:15
did it for a benevolent, balevolent person.
00:03:18
But this lady literally tried to get Claire killed and she
00:03:22
forgave you. I ain't heard her talk about
00:03:24
what's her name? Leary.
00:03:26
I ain't heard her talk about Leary in 20 years.
00:03:29
Right, except for when they went to Scotland and she was like, I
00:03:32
mean, and even then she was joking with them.
00:03:35
You know, if you really want to know who she's sleeping with all
00:03:37
you got, there are other ways for you to find out then going
00:03:39
to see him. Like she let it go.
00:03:42
But again, I think the thing with it being Lord John, and I
00:03:47
don't know, maybe I don't think Jamie is jealous in the sense
00:03:52
that it was about him, you know what I'm saying?
00:03:57
But I think also in a small part it probably is, even though he
00:04:01
probably won't acknowledge that cause like Lord John has been in
00:04:03
love with him all this time. Exactly like you in love with me
00:04:06
but you will see with my wife. Right.
00:04:08
Like, oh, you can't have me but you, but you gonna have my wife.
00:04:11
Like I'm sure there's a little bit of a different kind of
00:04:14
jealousy there for him, even though he's not attracted to
00:04:18
John in that way. But still, that's like a big
00:04:20
change up. Yeah.
00:04:22
And then you think about also like, the only time he probably
00:04:24
ever constantly made it anything with a woman or getting it was
00:04:27
when he married the sister of Geneva's sister.
00:04:32
And that was for marriage sake. You know what I mean?
00:04:34
He had to pretend. So it's like, you don't even
00:04:37
like what you're doing. How is it that this is the time
00:04:40
you need to do this thing? And it's like.
00:04:43
And that's the thing, like Claire has already explained
00:04:46
that to him, and even Lord John explained it to him like it
00:04:49
wasn't a love thing. Because you really think that
00:04:52
Claire would hop in the bed with somebody weeks or months after
00:04:55
Jamie's presumed that she it took her a whole year to get
00:05:00
back in bed with Frank. And then after a couple of
00:05:02
times, she didn't sleep with him again for 20 years.
00:05:05
So it's kind of like, I feel like he's overreacting.
00:05:09
And I, I get it. He's a jealous man.
00:05:12
He's told her he's a jealous man.
00:05:13
But also at the same time, it's not a good look and I don't
00:05:20
really like the way they're I don't want to say that the show
00:05:23
was kind of romanticizing that. I don't think that's it.
00:05:26
But the fact that, you know, they have this big this I don't
00:05:31
even want to say blow out because really he's the one
00:05:33
that's mad Clarence just kind of like I'm so over this at this
00:05:36
point. But but to go from all of that
00:05:39
and the whole, you know, every time I think about you with him,
00:05:43
I want to position it, it comes across very. 1700s evolved so
00:05:50
much from that mindset so when he.
00:05:52
Got We still have it. And then you have Claire kind
00:05:56
of, I don't even know if I want to say rewarding it, but it's
00:06:00
like her excuse to making him forget is to seduce him and have
00:06:05
sex with him. And I'm just kind of like, yeah,
00:06:07
let's not do this. Let's not.
00:06:09
I just don't want that to be a normal thing, you know?
00:06:14
You have to prove her loyalty and love.
00:06:17
This woman has gone through the stones to be back with you when
00:06:22
she could have just went on with her life if they were her
00:06:24
husband. Right.
00:06:25
And I came back. She really could.
00:06:27
The first time you tried to send her through the stones, she
00:06:30
could have left. She could have left.
00:06:32
She decided to stay. So not once, but twice she came
00:06:37
back for you. That should tell you anything.
00:06:42
Everything and she was about to be hung.
00:06:47
This man saved her life. And again, Michelle and I talked
00:06:50
about this last season. As much as Lord John gives to
00:06:56
the Fraser family, Jamie needs to let this go.
00:07:02
Because he treasures his his friendship with Jamie, like he,
00:07:06
Jamie knew what he was about Jamie didn't.
00:07:07
He was like, look, I ain't about that, but OK, you, you just be
00:07:10
you and we and we can be friends and we can leave it at that.
00:07:14
And he treasures that. John really holds him to a high
00:07:17
esteem because he could have done anything.
00:07:19
He could have dimed him out. He could have killed him for,
00:07:22
for wanting for expressing that. And he didn't.
00:07:25
And I know John is grateful. I know John really loved Jamie.
00:07:28
Like there's no doubt aside from love Jamie, he platonically
00:07:32
loves Jamie and so it's a huge thing for John to have them and
00:07:37
and they're like he was he's willing to marry Brianna when
00:07:39
she was in a spot. You know what I'm saying?
00:07:41
He is just always there for them.
00:07:43
And so my thing is that should definitely override.
00:07:46
And he's, he's raising your kid. Yeah.
00:07:48
Oh, and yeah. Your.
00:07:50
Child. OK, so yeah, I just at this
00:07:55
point, it is old. I need Jamie to get over it
00:07:59
because again, you know, like the conversation they had later
00:08:02
on when she was reading Frank's book, he was like, we went to
00:08:05
bed fighting about your third husband and I wake up this
00:08:08
morning to see you reading a book from your first husband.
00:08:11
She was like, we're lucky for you, I'm only in love with my
00:08:13
second husband. Like, period, point blank.
00:08:15
That should be the only important thing at this point.
00:08:18
That's it. Yeah.
00:08:19
It just at this point let it go because it's been at this point,
00:08:24
it's been a few years. Yeah, let it go.
00:08:28
Everybody has moved on aside from him.
00:08:31
Right. I mean, the woman almost died.
00:08:34
Right. Yeah, and now he's getting
00:08:37
Frank's book kind of. I think it also has something to
00:08:40
do with him reading Frank's book and kind of having Frank like
00:08:43
heavily in his life right now. Also that's probably got him
00:08:46
because he also was still hearing Frank talking throughout
00:08:49
this episode again, which I'm like Oh my God.
00:08:51
OK, so, so here's the other thing.
00:08:53
And I didn't even think about this.
00:08:54
I happen to, you know, I try to, I try to stay away from
00:08:58
discussions about the episode until we've discussed it because
00:09:01
I don't want anybody else's thoughts to kind of bleed into
00:09:04
mine. But I saw something.
00:09:05
I came across something on social media and I saw it and I
00:09:09
was like, Oh my God, that makes so much sense.
00:09:12
I don't even remember where I saw it, but somebody was saying
00:09:16
that what they don't like about the whole voice over thing with
00:09:21
Jamie is how would Jamie know what Frank sounds?
00:09:26
Like sounds like. Yeah, yeah.
00:09:27
And I get it that he's hearing it and I, I feel like he's
00:09:31
hearing it and Blackjack Randall's voice because of the
00:09:34
fact that Blackjack Randall looks so much like him.
00:09:38
But it is one of those things where it's kind of like, yeah,
00:09:43
that wouldn't make sense. Yeah, it wouldn't.
00:09:45
But. But again, like I said, I feel
00:09:48
like I feel like, yes, he's hearing it in Blackjack's voice
00:09:53
and this just kind of this torturous thing and then going
00:09:57
to the conversation that he and Claire have after that when
00:10:00
they're trying to determine, like, what was the whole purpose
00:10:03
of Frank writing this book? Did he mean for Claire to read
00:10:07
it when she was alive or when he was alive, you know, when she
00:10:11
was still there so that she could see?
00:10:14
And I don't know if I feel like Frank would be.
00:10:21
That cruel. Yeah, that because for him to to
00:10:25
sit there, write that book and do all of that and then be like,
00:10:28
oh, here for her to see that all that time Jamie was alive, Frank
00:10:35
knew Jamie was alive and just it just I mean, it does kind of
00:10:41
explain a lot of his behavior towards Claire and how he acted
00:10:45
towards her. But at the same time, it's kind
00:10:47
of like Bill, you could, you could have had your happily ever
00:10:52
after with Sandy. You could have let Claire go.
00:10:54
But of course, that would have meant losing Brianna.
00:10:56
And I know he didn't want to do that.
00:10:57
But still, at the same time, Frankie really had no right, You
00:11:03
know, I understand you loved Claire.
00:11:05
I understand your love for her never changed even though hers
00:11:08
did. I understand you love Brianna.
00:11:10
But even with that, Brianna was not biologically your daughter.
00:11:15
If there was a chance for her to go back to meet her dad, would
00:11:18
it be with her dad? You could have had maybe at that
00:11:22
point, that's when y'all talked to Brianna and said, OK, look, I
00:11:26
know this is a weird situation, but let me tell you about your
00:11:29
real father. And then maybe when she got
00:11:32
older, let her decide what she wanted to do.
00:11:34
I mean, there was so many, so many other ways that they could
00:11:37
have that Frank could have handled that.
00:11:40
But thinking about what Claire said, it's kind of like now you
00:11:44
don't know what's real. You don't know what what's not
00:11:47
real is this stuff that Frank actually found out.
00:11:51
I mean, the fact that Jamie has already met one of the guys that
00:11:55
Frank talks about kind of leans towards, OK, Frank.
00:11:59
Frank knew some stuff. But at the same time, it's kind
00:12:03
of like he doesn't mention Claire in the book.
00:12:05
Of course, he he never mentioned any of this to Claire when they
00:12:10
were together. And then in the show, they
00:12:14
really don't put the information from the books that Frank knew
00:12:19
Jamie was alive because in the books, book spoiler for anybody
00:12:25
who probably hasn't heard us talk about this before and the
00:12:28
books the whole way that clarifies out that Jamie
00:12:31
survived colliding is because she goes back to the Abbey where
00:12:37
she gave birth to Faith. She goes back to the to that
00:12:42
church and she's in the graveyard and she sees a grave
00:12:46
marker with Jamie's name on it. And she was like, no, not not
00:12:51
the same ad because that was in France.
00:12:53
She was in Scotland. She went to a church, but she
00:12:55
saw his grave and she was like, what the fuck are you doing
00:12:59
here? You supposed to be on Collada,
00:13:01
you know, on Collada field. That's how she realized.
00:13:04
And then later on, in a letter that between Frank and the
00:13:11
Reverend Roger's father, Roger finds out that Frank knew about
00:13:16
it because Frank was the one who put the grave marker up.
00:13:21
See, I don't even remember that. That's been so long since I've
00:13:24
written. That was in, I think that they
00:13:28
talked about that in Fiery Cross.
00:13:30
So you may not, you may not have gotten to that yet if you're not
00:13:33
at book 5. OK, yeah, yeah, OK.
00:13:35
Then that's, that's yeah, 'cause I think I stopped at 4:00.
00:13:37
Yeah. So it's kind of when they went.
00:13:40
To the Caribbean, right? No, this was this was after
00:13:48
everything that happened with Claire and they were getting
00:13:50
ready to do Rodger and Brianna's actual wedding.
00:13:53
This was like a year after the the other hand fasting.
00:13:57
They were about to do the actual ceremony, and he and Jamie had
00:14:01
gone off to the side to talk, and Rodger showed him a letter
00:14:05
that he brought with him that Frank and his father had written
00:14:09
back and forth. And Frank said something about
00:14:11
this grave, But they don't really hit in the show up until
00:14:17
this point that Frank knew that Jamie was alive.
00:14:20
You know, So it's kind of like one of those things where is he
00:14:25
saying this stuff just because he wanted to get under Claire's
00:14:28
skin? Is he doing it out of
00:14:29
bitterness? Because like Jamie said, Jamie
00:14:31
was like, would he carry that kind of hate?
00:14:33
She was like, wouldn't you? I mean, think about it, you're
00:14:37
mad because of a marriage she had with Lower John for, as she
00:14:40
said, a few weeks. I think in the book it was
00:14:43
actually a few months, but still less than a year, less than half
00:14:48
a year and you are holding this much anger.
00:14:52
Imagine your wife goes through some stones, she disappears for
00:14:57
two years. She comes back, she's pregnant
00:15:00
by another man. She's still in love with another
00:15:04
man. And I'm, I'm sure when Claire
00:15:07
told Frank the whole story, I'm sure she also told him that at
00:15:12
one point Jamie tried to send her back and she chose to stay
00:15:16
because Claire doesn't even in this episode, she promised Jamie
00:15:20
honesty. She did the same with Frank.
00:15:22
Claire never held anything back and she didn't lie, Right?
00:15:26
Right. So yeah, I'm sure Frank was in
00:15:29
his feelings. I'm sure Frank did a lot of
00:15:33
things that were probably very petty, very messy, very cruel.
00:15:39
And now it's kind of like, So what do we do?
00:15:43
We believe what he wrote or do we try to like, are we really
00:15:47
trying to change history if we don't know for sure this is what
00:15:49
happens? But I'm.
00:15:51
Glad they discussed it though. But they, they had the presence
00:15:55
of mind to be like, OK, let's consider these options because
00:16:00
like obviously we did after we saw that he got, he got the book
00:16:04
and he mentioned him 1314 times. They're like something untoward
00:16:09
here. Somebody had the presence of
00:16:11
mind to discuss. That, but also I think that they
00:16:14
were able to do that as well because I mean, for a lot of
00:16:19
reasons, Jamie can't really be mad at Frank.
00:16:23
Frank was there first. Frank has done nothing wrong and
00:16:26
that in regards to who should be with Claire and who has.
00:16:30
Yeah, and Frank was first again, reiterating what I said the last
00:16:35
time. If it wasn't for Frank and
00:16:38
Claire's being married and going on holiday, he wouldn't have
00:16:42
Claire to begin with. It's crazy when you think about
00:16:45
though, they only had basically like what, 8 days of marriage or
00:16:48
something like that? And then she goes off to the
00:16:51
Highlands and finds a new man. Oh yeah, So technically her and
00:16:56
Frank's relationship wasn't even a relationship, No.
00:17:01
She was probably technically married to Frank less for less
00:17:05
amount of time than she was to Lord John.
00:17:08
Oh, man. If you think about it, she spent
00:17:11
less time with him. Yeah.
00:17:13
Yeah. So yeah, I mean, they probably,
00:17:18
who knows how long they were actually, like together together
00:17:22
before that. But you know, engagements and
00:17:25
courtships didn't last long back then for a lot of people.
00:17:28
You met, courted and got married all within a month.
00:17:34
Via letter and you know, like Julian and Henry.
00:17:39
Right. So, but the other thing about
00:17:45
that that I actually did like. So the reason why they get into
00:17:50
this whole thing about Laura John is because he has written a
00:17:53
letter to Claire about Brianna. He wants Brianna to come and
00:17:58
paint a portrait of Amaranthus and Trevor.
00:18:01
Now, the only thing that kind of bothered me about that is how
00:18:04
does Laura John know that Brianna is there?
00:18:06
Because the last time he saw Brianna, she and Rodger were
00:18:09
getting ready to go to Boston. This was before they went
00:18:12
through the stones. But how long are they like?
00:18:15
How long? What's the time like period
00:18:17
can't be that long, right? Like for them to have sent them
00:18:20
a letter or something like it can't be.
00:18:22
But see they why would they? Because Jamie.
00:18:25
Jamie is not speaking to Lord John.
00:18:29
William isn't really having anything to do with Jamie at
00:18:32
this point. So unless Claire maybe wrote to
00:18:36
William and said, hey, you know, here's how Fanny how Fanny is
00:18:41
doing. By the way, Brianna's here.
00:18:42
But but again, at the time that William and Brianna met, he
00:18:47
didn't know Brianna was his sister.
00:18:49
So Claire probably wouldn't think to say, hey, Breanna's
00:18:53
back. But also at the same time, she
00:18:55
didn't even know that they were in Savannah.
00:18:57
So it just that continuity is kind of weird for me because how
00:19:01
does Lord John know that Breanna is back in Fraser's Ridge?
00:19:06
So but so when they're having that conversation and Brianna
00:19:12
was like, so why is Lord John writing to you and not to die?
00:19:16
Not to die. And Claire's like, yeah, they
00:19:18
kind of not speaking to each other.
00:19:20
Oh, well, why not? She said, well, because when I
00:19:23
thought Jamie was dead, I married.
00:19:24
And Brianna's, like, what she was like, well, you know, I was
00:19:28
about to be arrested as a spy, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:19:30
Brando's like, OK, Well, I don't understand why he's mad.
00:19:34
It's not like you slept with him.
00:19:35
And then when Claire? Since she gave.
00:19:39
Those that little, yeah. The little eyes looking to the
00:19:44
left like. And Brianna was like, how am I
00:19:47
going to look Lord John in the face now?
00:19:49
Do I have to call him that? Clearly like you do that shit
00:19:53
so. I'm surprised she said that out
00:19:55
loud, to be honest, because you never know what Jamie anywhere.
00:19:58
Yeah, like, I don't know. But the thing that I liked about
00:20:02
that, but also what made me sad, it makes you realize how
00:20:08
isolated Claire is because the fact that she that she could
00:20:13
only have that conversation with her daughter because she doesn't
00:20:15
have any close girlfriends around.
00:20:17
She doesn't have anyone else aside from Jamie that she can
00:20:21
confide in. And of course you can't talk to
00:20:23
him about that. Right.
00:20:25
But you also, back in them days, you couldn't tell a woman now,
00:20:28
honestly, because they would judge you.
00:20:30
They would judge you. You didn't stay in black and
00:20:33
mourn your husband for seven years.
00:20:36
Something crazy, you know, Like they wouldn't judge her.
00:20:39
Yeah, but I mean it was either get married or die.
00:20:42
Or right, right. I mean, but you know, like still
00:20:44
they didn't care back in the days everything was a woman
00:20:46
fault. No matter what it was, it's
00:20:48
always. I know you know, but yeah,
00:20:52
that's definitely have me laughing so hard.
00:20:56
So I I like the way that they're doing it because that means that
00:21:00
some of the characters from the book have kind of been cut out
00:21:04
in order to kind of, I guess, quickly facilitate Brianna's
00:21:09
story and William Store, because they are going to meet this
00:21:12
season. I don't think that's I don't
00:21:13
think it's much of A spoiler to say that you can't have William
00:21:16
find out that she's a sister and then they not interact with.
00:21:22
So, yeah, because I think in the, I think in the books, there
00:21:30
was someone else, there was like a, a British officer's daughter
00:21:35
that she was going to do the portrait for Continental officer
00:21:39
daughter, somebody, it was somebody else that didn't have
00:21:42
to do with Amaranthus and and Trevor.
00:21:45
But like I said, they're, they're cutting out all the, the
00:21:49
middle man and stuff like that. So I'm that part I'm really
00:21:53
looking forward to because I really want to see Brianna and
00:21:58
William meet properly and I want to see how they're going to
00:22:01
develop that relationship and the show, because in the books
00:22:05
is starting to develop pretty nicely.
00:22:09
And then if you've read what I know you haven't because you
00:22:13
haven't gotten that far in the books yet, but Diana Gabaldon,
00:22:15
she posts snippets from book 10 and a few of her snippets have
00:22:21
involved Brianna and William. And I'm like, if this is what
00:22:24
we're getting just in the snippets, I, I can't wait to
00:22:26
read that book because I really want to see that relationship
00:22:30
develop. You know, William just got it.
00:22:33
He, he got to come to terms with the fact that he got more than
00:22:36
one family. He's just going to.
00:22:37
Have to go, yeah. But Speaking of William, we've
00:22:43
got a lot going on in this episode, too.
00:22:45
Yeah, I just, I, you know what, as much as you get on my nerves,
00:22:48
sometimes I feel so bad for him because he really wants his
00:22:52
cousin to be still alive and he's and it sucks when you're,
00:22:57
you have a strong feeling towards something and then you
00:23:00
have, you're telling your people and your people are like you're
00:23:03
just, you're, you're just thinking, you're just, you know,
00:23:06
they disregard your feelings or how you think.
00:23:09
So, you know, and I'm not saying that Laura John should just
00:23:12
stoke the fire and be like, yeah, keep investigating.
00:23:14
But like, God, he just give him a little support.
00:23:17
The man is at least up out of the room.
00:23:19
He, he he not drinking if you want something constructive.
00:23:24
So like I just, yeah, I feel bad for him because I know he
00:23:27
clearly loved his cousin and he wants answers.
00:23:32
He wants the answers, you know, enough to travel the way he's
00:23:35
travelled to, just to, to the enemy to get information, you
00:23:40
know. Right.
00:23:42
He's like, OK, yeah. I just need to get this
00:23:44
information, you know, and the things that he's found as far
00:23:48
as, like, he found a, you know, different body in Ben's grave.
00:23:51
And I understand what Lord John is saying.
00:23:53
It's just as likely that Ben was buried in someone else's grave
00:23:58
by accident. Like, let's be honest, to the
00:24:02
British officers, these are all prisoners.
00:24:04
Or to the Continental Army, these are all prisoners.
00:24:07
They're all British officers. They don't care about them.
00:24:10
Just like the way this, this dude who keeps coming up on
00:24:14
Jamie's property, he don't care about the enemy.
00:24:17
He's just like, oh, OK, y'all British folks, we going to hang
00:24:20
out, We going to shoot them. I'm going to shoot y'all.
00:24:22
Whatever. No.
00:24:23
Questions. No questions asked.
00:24:26
But I think it's very interesting what he does find,
00:24:33
you know, when he's bringing the the Ben's items to Amaranthus.
00:24:38
And Amaranthus has all of Ben's things in the drawer.
00:24:41
And he does find a little tin soldier.
00:24:44
And she says, yeah, Ben wanted me to give it to the baby when
00:24:49
he was, you know, when he was born.
00:24:51
I was like, something about that seems weird because here you
00:24:56
are, you're going on a raiding party and you're not expecting
00:25:01
to come back. You're going to give a toy to
00:25:05
the baby. You literally can't.
00:25:06
Like he's not going to play with that toys.
00:25:08
He's what, 5 or 6? And I don't even think it's AI,
00:25:13
don't even know if it's about that.
00:25:14
I, I think he was trying to pass it along because it was a, a
00:25:18
family thing or it was a like a symbol of brotherhood because
00:25:22
like even when William is telling Lord John about and Lord
00:25:25
John is like, OK, so you think he's alive because he didn't
00:25:27
take your toy soldier with him And he was like, no, I knew you
00:25:30
wouldn't understand. I think it was more so it it
00:25:35
symbolizes their bond as cousins and as brothers because William
00:25:39
says that Henry and Ben were like more like brothers to him
00:25:42
and cousins. So I can understand Ben wanting
00:25:46
to leave that behind for Trevor. But again, you're assuming that
00:25:51
you're not going to come back. Yeah.
00:25:54
I mean, I guess in any. Case it's war You you probably
00:25:58
always assume that you there's a possibility, I guess, but I
00:26:01
don't know, it just felt weird because she was she just had an
00:26:03
answer like right away. Oh yeah, yeah.
00:26:05
Because I don't trust her. So everything she says to me
00:26:08
sounds like it's something fabricated.
00:26:10
And so I'm like, when she said that, I was like, when when he
00:26:13
was born, she wanted, he wanted me to give him this toy.
00:26:15
And I'm like, I don't think so. It depends on it depends on what
00:26:24
what way they're going in the show as far as the book,
00:26:27
because, because there is something, if you listen to a
00:26:31
conversation, if you listen to the conversation that Ben had
00:26:35
with William when they when he gave him the soul, the soldier,
00:26:39
and then you think about what Amarantha said.
00:26:42
I was like, oh, wait, something about that doesn't add up.
00:26:48
And I don't want to say what it is because then.
00:26:51
I'm gonna go back and watch it because I I I yeah, No, I'm
00:26:53
gonna go back and it'll be in spoilery territory.
00:26:56
OK, OK. I'm gonna go back and look at it
00:26:58
then because I'm like, I don't know.
00:27:00
This girl just does not settle well with me.
00:27:03
I just. I don't know.
00:27:04
Yeah. Because it's just this show
00:27:05
breeds like people who are untrustworthy, as we find out.
00:27:12
Yeah, yeah, especially when you sit here more, which I get it,
00:27:17
it's been almost a year at this point.
00:27:19
You're mourning your husband, but then you're kissing his
00:27:21
cousin. Making eyes, making clothes.
00:27:24
And I know Michelle going to have some things to say about
00:27:26
that because she said I don't want him to fall for her.
00:27:29
I want him to find somebody that's his own.
00:27:34
That. He can fall for.
00:27:35
So I don't know where that relationship is going to go
00:27:38
because I think even in the book is kind of, it's kind of unclear
00:27:42
at this point. But there's a lot more, there's
00:27:45
a lot more stuff that happens that I'm sure they'll get to in
00:27:48
this in this season. But I did see something on
00:27:53
Facebook yesterday. So a lot of times when Diana
00:27:56
Gabaldon post things about the show, sometimes you always get
00:28:01
people in her comments coming in talking about how old they've
00:28:04
messed the show up. It's not like the books, blah,
00:28:06
blah, blah, blah, blah. And certain things, which again,
00:28:08
I get if your book purist, there's some things about the
00:28:12
show that's not going to sit right with you because they've
00:28:14
changed some things. They've let's left some things
00:28:16
out, you know, to make the story float better on the show.
00:28:22
But she did make a comment on a post recently that I saw because
00:28:26
somebody was talking about how they were going to end the show.
00:28:30
And she's given an interview that I saw earlier.
00:28:34
And she said she thinks that the show ended on a really good note
00:28:38
and that the fans will be pleased.
00:28:40
OK. But she also said that they are
00:28:45
ending the show with book 9 because she has not given them
00:28:49
anything about book 10. Like there there are a couple of
00:28:53
pieces here and there that don't have a significant impact on the
00:28:57
story. But she said other than that,
00:28:59
they they don't have book 10, so they can't include anything from
00:29:04
book 10 because they don't have it.
00:29:05
So the show has to come up with their own ending, which again,
00:29:10
I'm, I'm great. I'm I'm OK with because I
00:29:13
wouldn't want them to get into book 10 story before I've read
00:29:18
book 10. You know, like, again, going
00:29:22
back to what I said a couple of episodes ago, why would you give
00:29:25
the book ending away and the book hasn't come out yet?
00:29:28
Because then you're not giving anybody any.
00:29:30
Well, not anybody, but you're not giving like say the show,
00:29:34
only people who may be waiting for the show to be over before
00:29:37
they start reading the books. If you give them the whole no
00:29:39
story, what incentive are they going to have to go and read it?
00:29:43
You know, I'm a go read it because I'm a fan of the books
00:29:47
as well as the show, and I know how to separate them too, you
00:29:51
know. So yeah, I just, it's, it's
00:29:58
going to be interesting to see where they go with William and
00:30:00
Amaranthus in the storyline, because I, if they're going in
00:30:03
the direction I think they're going, it's going to get very
00:30:06
interesting within the next, I would say episode or two.
00:30:10
But then you also have the other stuff that's kind of pulling in.
00:30:13
You know, William and John are at this dinner and William is
00:30:17
going to sit next to him. And who comes and sit next to to
00:30:20
Lord John, but Percy his his former stepbrother and I was
00:30:25
like, this dude is mighty bowl grabbing his leg in the middle
00:30:28
of lunch whenever and and lower John is not subtle at all.
00:30:33
He's just like, dude, I'm, I'm in like.
00:30:36
Weren't you a spy on top of each other?
00:30:39
So how are they? How are they having this
00:30:40
conversation? It's literally somebody on the
00:30:44
side of him, people in front of them.
00:30:47
Well, they're having their own conversations and I'm sure they
00:30:49
know how to whisper, but still. This.
00:30:51
Comedy. I would have been like.
00:30:54
But I don't think so. The conversation that they're
00:30:56
having isn't anything that I think will perk anybody's ears
00:31:00
up. Because Percy comes to Lord John
00:31:03
because he's like, hey, I need you to put me in touch with
00:31:06
someone who I'm looking to get in touch with a Claudel Fergus
00:31:11
Fraser. And Lord John is like, who is
00:31:15
that? Oh, well, you know, he was born
00:31:17
in a brothel. He was rescued from said brothel
00:31:19
by a tall Scott, redheaded Scott.
00:31:23
And purse is sitting there looking at John like, I know
00:31:25
you're tight, but he's like, I, you know, I think they're
00:31:32
related. I, I don't need you to betray
00:31:34
your friend. I just need you to get this
00:31:37
Claudel Fraser to get in touch with me because I have something
00:31:41
that might be a bone to him. Now, I don't know if you know
00:31:44
about what this is about, but I'm going to tell you now.
00:31:47
If they do what they do in the books, you're going to be like,
00:31:51
what the fuck? Oh yeah, I definitely don't.
00:31:53
But we can. We can get.
00:31:57
Spoiled. We can spoil it after we record.
00:32:00
OK. I was like, why does he want
00:32:02
Fergus? Is he going best with him
00:32:03
because he's printing seditious material?
00:32:06
Like what's happening here? This guy is kind of skeevy.
00:32:09
So I was like, what does he want Fergus for?
00:32:11
It's a little more interesting than that.
00:32:14
OK, OK, I got some ideas that just popped in my head though.
00:32:17
OK. I can.
00:32:18
I can almost guarantee you anything that you're thinking
00:32:21
of. Nope, because when I when I
00:32:26
found out about it, when I heard about it, because I had heard
00:32:29
rumors based on one of the one of the short stories, one of her
00:32:35
side stories, the novellas. And I was like, then when I read
00:32:39
it in the book, I was like, Oh my God.
00:32:43
So yeah, it's crazy. We'll talk about it afterwards.
00:32:46
But the the other thing is when Percy brings Lord John into this
00:32:52
and he was like, Hey, I just I just need you to do this favor
00:32:55
with me for me. And Lord John is like, OK, you
00:32:58
did me. You did me a solid by saving
00:33:00
Williams life. You know, telling me about that.
00:33:02
So I'll I'll help you. I'm not going to promise
00:33:05
anything, but I will do it. But I still need you to do me a
00:33:08
favor. And it's that they want to find
00:33:11
Captain Richardson, because again, he was a turncoat.
00:33:16
He tried to send William to his death.
00:33:18
So in in addition to all of this stuff that William is dealing
00:33:21
with, he also has to deal with the fact that somebody that he
00:33:24
trusted tried to have him killed.
00:33:26
Which is so messed. Up, which is so messed up, but
00:33:29
they're like Richardson has seemingly disappeared into thin
00:33:33
air. We haven't been able to find him
00:33:36
now. Do you recall seeing a Captain
00:33:41
Richardson last season? I don't remember, I'm so bad
00:33:45
about remembering certain details.
00:33:47
I'm going to bring it up because it's because it's, if you look
00:33:53
at it closely and we've just Michelle and I discussed this.
00:33:58
So you remember in the 1980s when Brianna was escaping with
00:34:05
her children from Lally Brock because Rob Cameron's friend had
00:34:11
it surrounded and someone was trying to pull her out the van
00:34:15
and she closed the van door and the guy fell that he took his
00:34:19
mask, his took his mask off. That was Captain Richardson.
00:34:23
OK, so yeah, and see, that's the thing, because I split up the
00:34:27
season and then I didn't finish for a long time and then I had
00:34:30
to bend so I could catch up, so I could be, you know, I didn't
00:34:35
give any like that detail I missed because I hadn't washed
00:34:38
up at the beginning. Michelle didn't catch it either.
00:34:40
I own the only reason why I even caught it was because of the
00:34:44
fact that I had literally just read it in the books because I
00:34:50
prepped for Dragon Con last year and I read the last.
00:34:54
I read the the last three books like within a two week time
00:34:58
span. I don't even think it took me
00:35:00
two weeks because written in my own heart's blood book AI
00:35:04
literally read that in 24 hours. I did not put that book down.
00:35:08
Oh. My.
00:35:09
God, so I was, I was familiar with the fact that he was a time
00:35:15
traveler as well. They still don't go into a whole
00:35:18
bunch with him, but you do kind of find out why he was, why he
00:35:24
was aiming for William, why he was trying to, you know,
00:35:27
threaten William. And it it, it comes into a whole
00:35:30
other thing that they may or may not touch upon in this season.
00:35:34
I'll leave it alone. But yeah, Richardson, probably
00:35:36
after doing what he did to William, he probably took a hike
00:35:42
and was like, OK, I need to go regroup.
00:35:45
I need to go do something right. Which is crazy.
00:35:49
So them thinking that because Jim told Cameron about the gold
00:35:54
that that was the only reason. We're really sounds like
00:35:57
Richardson had a little hand in that.
00:36:00
Could, could be. Yeah, OK.
00:36:04
Could be because I I'm going to assume that at least for the
00:36:10
show, because again, they don't really talk about his background
00:36:12
and why he's going back and forth.
00:36:14
If that's the case, I'm going to assume that with the show, if he
00:36:21
knew who William was when he sent him to his death.
00:36:25
Not only just that he's Lord John Gray's son.
00:36:29
If he already knows about Brianna and the Scottish gold
00:36:36
and has figured out that William is Brianna's brother, that might
00:36:39
have had something to do with why he did that as well.
00:36:42
But I'm not sure because again, nobody really nobody really
00:36:46
knows about Williams relationship to Jamie and
00:36:49
Brianna. But according to the books he
00:36:53
favors Jamie a lot. Like if you put them in the same
00:36:57
room together people figure it out.
00:36:59
Like in the book, Fanny figured it out.
00:37:02
A couple other people who have been around them, they kind of
00:37:05
figured it out. They were like, yeah, it's kind
00:37:07
of obvious that that's his, that that's your dad.
00:37:09
Yeah. So so they may, they may do
00:37:13
that. It it'll be interesting to see
00:37:15
how they do it. But yeah, first he says he's
00:37:20
going to help them find Richardson.
00:37:21
I don't know how that's going to happen.
00:37:24
Well, I mean, he clearly got some, some somebody that he can
00:37:29
he he got connections something, something.
00:37:33
Yeah, he, he, he, he and he he stayed in the right spaces.
00:37:37
How has he not been like out? He always got somebody.
00:37:42
Here, because what did he say? He worked.
00:37:43
For and when they saw each other.
00:37:45
Lafayette. Yeah.
00:37:49
And when John was like, so I take it you're not working for
00:37:51
him? He switched back to that French
00:37:53
accent so fast. He was like, hey, I can be loyal
00:37:56
to them, but I could not. You'll never know.
00:38:00
I was like, you know what? This dude here, I tell you, Lord
00:38:06
John, he just, I don't know what it is.
00:38:11
It's like he he, he can't never make a safe choice, can he?
00:38:17
Well, you know, but I I will say he definitely was.
00:38:22
He was young with this one. It ain't like with Jamie.
00:38:25
Yeah, he was young. Technically speaking, he was
00:38:28
young with Jamie too. He was.
00:38:29
He was in his. He was in his 20s.
00:38:33
Yeah, but wasn't he like, didn't him and the stepbrother like
00:38:36
they were just like teenagers, right?
00:38:38
Like when they're. Probably so.
00:38:40
Probably so yeah. And he keeps saying former
00:38:44
stepbrother. So I don't know if I can't
00:38:46
remember in the books if the relationship happened while they
00:38:49
were in the same house or what, or after.
00:38:52
I I don't remember. But not that it not that it
00:38:56
matters back then because I mean, people were marrying
00:38:59
cousins back then. So step brothers, it's hard to
00:39:01
well, OK, step siblings, let me say, step siblings would hardly
00:39:06
be scandalous. Step brothers is a whole
00:39:08
different thing entirely because of the time period.
00:39:11
But yeah, so the thing with with Fergus is going to get
00:39:19
interesting. Because I was like, when they're
00:39:22
bringing Ferguson, Marsley back. Yeah, next episode.
00:39:27
OK. Yeah, next episode.
00:39:28
Did you see the preview for the next episode?
00:39:30
No. I did, but then I just.
00:39:33
I did. I must have seen him.
00:39:36
I think I did see him in the next episode.
00:39:39
OK, yeah, yeah, maybe I did. I just.
00:39:43
So yeah, that's why I was like that one might need to be a we
00:39:46
need to watch it together and do a reaction video because if
00:39:49
they're going the direction that I'm that I think they're going,
00:39:54
yeah, we might, yeah, we might need to do a reaction video for
00:39:59
that. We haven't done a reaction video
00:40:01
in a while so that might be the one, but.
00:40:07
All right, let's, let's move on because we got to talk about
00:40:12
Claire and and this this birth. Oh yeah, that's I pause it on
00:40:19
that because I was like, oh, I was in tears, girl.
00:40:22
I was. I was like, oh Lord.
00:40:24
OK, this whole scene was just. So so Claire is approached by
00:40:31
young black girl while she's out gardening and little girl
00:40:34
introduces herself. She's looking for the healer
00:40:38
because her mom is, you know, pregnant and having some issues.
00:40:42
Claire brings the mom and her, I don't know, I can't remember if
00:40:46
it was her sister or her midwife, but.
00:40:48
She was, yeah, she was her midwife because she said that,
00:40:51
that she had delivered many babies, but for some reason she
00:40:55
can't get this one to work. Yeah.
00:40:57
So Claire brings them back to the house.
00:40:59
Turns out the lady Susanna is pregnant with twins and the
00:41:04
twins are kind of holding on to each other in the womb, which is
00:41:08
why her labor isn't progressing. So then the husband comes
00:41:11
looking for them and he basically is like, I don't trust
00:41:16
no white man. I'm not about to trust my wife
00:41:18
to no white healer. Look, I'm a free man.
00:41:22
My wife is a free woman here raising our kids free.
00:41:26
Y'all not about to get me in trouble.
00:41:28
And Jamie's like dude, we we don't want nothing to do with
00:41:31
that. I won't even tell anybody you
00:41:33
were here. Just let my wife help your wife.
00:41:37
So they go through all this. The Susanna has the first baby,
00:41:40
a little boy, he's healthy, he's OK.
00:41:43
The second baby comes and she's breech.
00:41:47
And immediately when Claire brings that baby out, you know
00:41:50
that there's something wrong. Yep.
00:41:52
No cries, no cries. The look that she gives to Ben,
00:41:56
to the the midwife, it's just all of a sudden, you know that
00:41:59
there's something wrong. So I was like, OK, this is about
00:42:02
to, this is about to be a faith tie in.
00:42:04
I I really felt that at that point.
00:42:08
So Claire takes the baby over to the side.
00:42:10
She tries to, you know, she tries to warm the baby up.
00:42:14
She tries to give the baby CPR. And Jamie is in the room at that
00:42:17
time because he was bringing supplies.
00:42:19
And he sees and he tries to tell Claire, hey, the baby is gone,
00:42:23
that there's nothing you can do, you know, let me have the baby.
00:42:26
And Claire's like, no, I can't. So you start seeing these kind
00:42:30
of flashbacks from when she was in childbirth with Faith.
00:42:34
You see the, the little, the bird with the blue light and you
00:42:38
hear her talking about the blue light and Master Raymond and all
00:42:42
this other stuff. And they, they show a close up
00:42:45
of her hand. She's on, she has her hand on
00:42:47
the baby's chest and you hear like a faint heartbeat.
00:42:50
Now, the thing I don't like is they kind of transposed it with
00:42:53
Faith. And I was like, Faith was very
00:42:56
obviously dead when we saw her. So they, you know, they're, they
00:43:01
were basically showing Claire's heartbeat.
00:43:03
You can see her veins kind of pumping.
00:43:05
You can see the veins in her neck pumping.
00:43:08
And apparently something happens with her to where this baby
00:43:13
starts crying. The baby is actually alive,
00:43:16
starts breathing, crying. Jamie takes the baby over, gives
00:43:20
it to her mom. They have a conversation
00:43:23
afterwards cause Jamie was like look I know that baby ain't
00:43:26
supposed to be a lie. You know.
00:43:27
Jamie is sitting there thinking OK Claire I didn't ask you
00:43:30
before if you was a witch right? So you know how you bring the
00:43:34
babies back from the dead and the CPR didn't work?
00:43:40
The CPR didn't work, So what did?
00:43:42
Yeah, right. What did you do 'cause that baby
00:43:44
should not be here? Yeah.
00:43:46
He was like, look, I know you're a miracle work.
00:43:49
I've seen you do things that nobody else can do, but there's
00:43:52
a little something different. This is different.
00:43:55
You know, that baby was dead. That baby had a little.
00:43:59
Like like vibration or something when you could tell when right
00:44:03
when the whatever that life force was, it went back into the
00:44:06
baby. You can see the.
00:44:07
Vibration of it. Oh, she's like, oh, boy, yeah,
00:44:11
it was interesting. But then she starts telling him
00:44:13
about the. The only other time she
00:44:15
experienced that was when she was, you know, after Faith.
00:44:20
She was like, after she was dead, I was dying.
00:44:23
Master Raymond came to see me and he put his hands on me and
00:44:26
it's almost like he healed me with just his hands.
00:44:29
She was like, I saw a blue light and I it's almost like I felt
00:44:33
the sickness leaving my body. I felt the same thing with this
00:44:37
too. And of course, in the books,
00:44:40
they kind of elaborate on this whole thing a little bit more
00:44:44
because also in the books, what we didn't see in the show, when
00:44:51
Rodger and Buck go back to the 1730s and they're going to
00:44:56
Galis, because of whatever's going on with Buck's heart,
00:45:02
she's able to help him the first time, but he continues to have
00:45:05
heart issues the time the whole time that they are there.
00:45:08
And at one point she has to call another healer to come and help
00:45:14
him. And that healer is Master
00:45:16
Raymond, and Master Raymond is able to help him in there.
00:45:20
There's like something about a blue light that when he touches
00:45:24
people, he can heal them. OK, so that's what Claire's
00:45:29
making Speaking of in this because she keeps saying that
00:45:31
there's a you know, Master Raymond says there's an armor
00:45:34
about people and you have you have a blue light.
00:45:37
And then they also show us at the beginning of the episode
00:45:42
when they do the previously on they went all the way back to
00:45:46
season. I don't remember what season was
00:45:49
four or five. When she was speaking with out
00:45:53
of way he and out of way he told her that when your hair turns
00:45:59
white as the snow, you will come into your full power.
00:46:03
And something about the power of I can't remember exactly what
00:46:08
her phrasing was, but Claire, you know, she's thinking about
00:46:12
that. And then she takes her hair wrap
00:46:14
off and she asked Jamie what color her hair is and she has a
00:46:17
white streak of hair. So I was like prevalent, like
00:46:22
Rogue from X-Men. Right, right, right.
00:46:27
So I was like, OK, so now I feel like they are getting into more
00:46:34
of the magic of the story because you don't see a lot of
00:46:38
it in the story. A lot of the story is focused on
00:46:41
the real, the tangible. But of course the stones have to
00:46:45
have some kind of magic to them for them to be able to go back
00:46:47
and forth through time. So I don't know what this is
00:46:53
going to be with Claire. Obviously she has something
00:46:55
about her. And you know, one of the things
00:46:58
about Claire when she's when, when you hear her inner dialogue
00:47:02
in the books and she's talking about healing people and her her
00:47:07
becoming a surgeon, there's something about the way that she
00:47:12
sees bodies. And it's like.
00:47:16
That she can actually, it's almost as if she can look
00:47:20
straight into the body and see what it is that she's doing.
00:47:23
She just has that kind of connection.
00:47:26
And of course, I don't know how they would, how they would
00:47:30
translate that to the show, because it would it would just
00:47:35
seem a little too, I think it would seem a little too too
00:47:39
magicy. Yeah, too hokey.
00:47:41
Pokey. I don't know.
00:47:42
But that it it's clearly explained in the book.
00:47:46
This is one of the reasons why she's one of the best surgeons,
00:47:49
is one of the reasons why she can do the things that she can
00:47:53
do because she actually feels connected to the body.
00:47:59
You know, even when when Joe Abernathy had what we later find
00:48:04
out are gave us his bones and Claire's like, oh, somebody sent
00:48:08
you the 150 year old murder victim and Joe was like, how the
00:48:13
hell did you know? She was like, I don't know.
00:48:14
Something about her felt like it.
00:48:16
Yeah, I get connected. But yeah, so she's got the white
00:48:23
streak. So I'm sure that's also about to
00:48:26
come into play because here you are, you hit, you're you're
00:48:32
bringing babies back from the dead.
00:48:34
You're you, you're known to be a good healer.
00:48:36
And there's a war about to come. So I have a feeling she's about
00:48:39
to be using that blue light. Whatever.
00:48:44
Whatever it is you got going. On yeah, it's funny because
00:48:49
Mayfair, which is the The Witching Hour, came out like the
00:48:52
year before Outlander. And that's like Rowan's thing,
00:48:58
that's the power Rowan has where she can see a thing happening.
00:49:02
And that's how unfortunately to kill people is because she can
00:49:06
see the inner workings of the of the body.
00:49:08
So it's interesting that she wrote this or where, you know,
00:49:11
later on where Claire actually is going to probably have this
00:49:14
same kind of gift. Yeah, yeah.
00:49:18
OK. So I guess the last thing we
00:49:21
need to talk about is this Captain Cunningham dude.
00:49:27
I'm so glad Jamie has a brain because Oh my God.
00:49:30
Listen, listen. First of all, let's start at the
00:49:34
top of the episode when these two soldiers are approaching
00:49:38
Fanny, because she's clearly a little girl.
00:49:43
A child, a whole child a whole. Child, how are you talking to
00:49:48
her? Like, yeah, you don't look like
00:49:50
you belong here. You look like you're kind of an
00:49:52
adventurous yourself. Don't you want to come with me
00:49:54
in my travels? And she was like hell to the no.
00:49:58
Absolutely not. Hell and.
00:50:02
She got a little mouth on her too.
00:50:04
I like her. But you know what?
00:50:05
I'm glad she does. Yes, I'm glad that she feels
00:50:09
like she can be comfortable enough to say that because she
00:50:13
now has people who will protect her.
00:50:16
Because Brianna was about to be like, oh, let me go speak to
00:50:19
them. She's like, Nope, let's just go.
00:50:20
Let's just go. Because if Brianna would have
00:50:23
went open her mouth. She probably was.
00:50:25
She probably. Also was immediately reminded of
00:50:28
Janie, and she didn't want somebody else to die on her
00:50:32
behalf. And so she's like, yeah, yeah,
00:50:33
yeah, no, we don't need that, you know?
00:50:37
But it's the fact that Brianna was just like, I'm going to
00:50:39
handle this, you know, that's her modern attitude because, you
00:50:42
know, women typically weren't like Janie where they would just
00:50:45
go, do you know, that kind of thing.
00:50:48
So. Yeah, but I mean.
00:50:51
Claire. Claire would have.
00:50:52
Claire would have been like that too if she had been there.
00:50:54
She'd been like, excuse me, excuse me, I need you to back
00:50:58
away from this little child, right?
00:51:01
But when Jamie goes. To talk to Cunningham about
00:51:03
that, not only about that, but he was like, yeah, so you had
00:51:08
soldiers coming to visit you and his whole thing.
00:51:12
Was Oh yeah, they were just bringing.
00:51:13
Me some of my son's effects and blah blah blah.
00:51:16
And Jamie was like, look, one of the things we like about the
00:51:19
Ridge is that the war is far away from here.
00:51:21
You said that's what you like too.
00:51:23
And I, I, I want to keep it that way, right.
00:51:27
And you know, Cunningham does a good show of yes, yes, yes, yes,
00:51:35
I understand, yes da, da, da, da, da.
00:51:37
But when you that much of A yes man, something, something's not
00:51:41
right. Yeah, something's not right.
00:51:44
And. You know, he, he just.
00:51:47
He gives off he just gives off a little sneaky weird.
00:51:51
And I I knew something was, yeah, gonna happen, but I just,
00:51:55
man, come on. Yeah.
00:51:57
What what do they think they're going to do?
00:51:59
Take. Over the back country and
00:52:00
that's. Going to give them the war.
00:52:01
Like, is that what they thought the British?
00:52:04
I don't know that so. That so that probably is what
00:52:08
they. Thought, or what they're
00:52:09
thinking, and I will say this, you know, Jamie and Claire were
00:52:16
gone for what, almost three years?
00:52:20
Really? I think it was almost.
00:52:22
Three years. Two years.
00:52:24
Three years, but when you're gone for that amount of time,
00:52:29
and I don't know how often they were corresponding with people
00:52:32
on the Ridge because, you know, they kind of had a lot going on
00:52:34
while they were gone, but. You know when you.
00:52:39
When you're gone for that long, you do allow for other people to
00:52:44
come in and kind of take charge, take over, yeah.
00:52:50
And. Yeah, you probably do still.
00:52:53
Have your loyal. Men, your arts mirror men who
00:52:56
were there. But as we saw from when they
00:52:59
first came back, you know, the first episode, the Ridge has
00:53:02
grown quite a bit in their absence.
00:53:05
So everybody. Is not going to be.
00:53:07
Loyal to Jamie, because most of them probably don't even know
00:53:10
who he is, you know, at least until they came back to the
00:53:13
Ridge. He was probably like a mythical
00:53:15
figure to them, you know, but I don't know what.
00:53:21
Cunningham was thinking because these.
00:53:23
Same two soldiers later on are killed by what was the other
00:53:29
guy's name? Henderson, I think, yes.
00:53:33
I think it's AC actually, but I can't, OK.
00:53:36
I don't remember but the guy. The guy who came to Jamie last
00:53:40
weekend was all. I think it's Campbell.
00:53:43
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it might. Be Campbell so.
00:53:46
He kills those two while Jamie is out with with Fanny and he's
00:53:51
like, yeah, these two were sneaking guns onto your, you
00:53:55
know, onto your property. If you going to be a punk and
00:53:58
not, you know, regulate stuff, then I'll take care of it.
00:54:01
He was like you just in time to help me string them up and
00:54:04
Jamie's like, no, we're not doing that.
00:54:05
I told you I would handle what's going on on my laugh, but I hate
00:54:10
to say. It you know.
00:54:12
They weren't wrong. He wasn't wrong and and Jamie I.
00:54:16
Think Jamie is going to have to let some of this pride go?
00:54:20
Yeah. Because also he does.
00:54:23
Not have the. He does not have the.
00:54:25
The sway that he had right before he left.
00:54:30
Yeah, and and not only that, but like, even if you don't want to
00:54:35
be cruel and hang people, you need some you need to like
00:54:39
announce like hey, I know some of y'all have come since we've
00:54:42
been gone, but I need to reiterate that this is my land
00:54:45
and these is this is how I want things to go because it is clear
00:54:49
that they have moved on. They don't move Cunningham in.
00:54:53
He got a whole store or trading post.
00:54:56
Like all this stuff has changed. And then these guys are like,
00:54:59
I'm going to take these weapons. So they're like, fine, if you
00:55:05
you don't want to shrink them up, but I'm taking these weapons
00:55:07
like everybody got their own agenda.
00:55:09
You don't have any power right now.
00:55:11
And yeah, he's going to get off your land right now, but that
00:55:14
don't mean later that he going to be willing to get off your
00:55:16
land. You know, especially he got a
00:55:18
whole grain of weapons now. A whole.
00:55:20
Crain of weapons, which is something that Brianna.
00:55:22
And them were just, well, that's what we didn't talk about.
00:55:24
I was just about to say that too, that Brianna was just
00:55:26
telling. You we need to figure.
00:55:28
Out how to get weapons and here they are and yeah yeah, but he's
00:55:33
going to have to. Reconsider that now, because
00:55:35
that whole conversation about Lord John Grant is like, yeah,
00:55:39
we can go to Savannah. And if, if daddy's book is
00:55:42
really talking about war is going to come to the
00:55:45
Backcountry, we're going to need guns.
00:55:47
We're going to have to go to Savannah.
00:55:48
And he's like, well, how you going to pay for it?
00:55:50
How you going, how you going to even get there?
00:55:53
The guest of Lord John? So how you going to pay for it?
00:55:57
Well. We can use the the.
00:55:58
The gold, you know, she said. We were almost killed for we
00:56:02
might as well use it to protect and like what are y'all doing
00:56:04
with it? It's just sitting in a cave
00:56:07
right now. Yeah, what are y'all doing with
00:56:08
it, right? And I mean I I think this.
00:56:12
Is really going to make him reconsider that because again,
00:56:16
somebody who is probably going to become an enemy to you
00:56:21
because you're not going to team up with them.
00:56:24
The guy already came onto your property, made his choices very
00:56:28
clear, and he's not the type of person that you that you break
00:56:31
bread with, right? So you've already made an enemy.
00:56:35
That enemy just rolled off with a whole cart of guns that were
00:56:38
supposed to go to somebody else living on your land after doing
00:56:43
something that you told him expressly.
00:56:45
You, you don't. That's not what you want on your
00:56:47
land right? So he gives 0 zero fucks right?
00:56:53
So yeah, James is going to. Have to change his mind.
00:56:56
About a lot of stuff, because as much as he wants to stay out of
00:57:00
war, as much as he wants to say I'm not going to have any part
00:57:04
of this, obviously he is. And Frank's book also tells him,
00:57:08
yeah, you're going to be a big part of this.
00:57:11
He just might as well look, take take the information that you've
00:57:14
been given and start preparing. Granted, you don't have to
00:57:19
prepare to die. Because you you can.
00:57:21
Still fight that, right? But still you, you need to start
00:57:25
preparing because obviously this is not going to be as peaceful a
00:57:29
retirement as you want it to be. Yeah.
00:57:32
And then you. You know, he gets to he gets
00:57:35
there and realizes because he searches the guys and he
00:57:39
realizes there's a missive in in his boot.
00:57:42
And so now you find out a whole nother thing then is going on.
00:57:46
And so you're like, OK, let's go check out Cunningham again,
00:57:49
because I feel like he don't lie to me.
00:57:50
Well, obviously, obviously. And that right there I was like,
00:57:56
OK, Jamie, I'm glad you you went to you went and got educated
00:58:00
when you was young. And so you really do have a good
00:58:02
brain. I mean, also think about it.
00:58:05
This is the. Kind of stuff he was doing in
00:58:07
Paris, right? So.
00:58:09
So he knows what to look. For and I think.
00:58:12
I think part of that was Kim, like he had misgivings about
00:58:17
Cunningham, but I think Jamie is has gotten to that point in life
00:58:21
where he's trying to think better of people, right?
00:58:26
But. Cunningham just.
00:58:28
Proved to you, you need to stick to your instincts.
00:58:32
And I hate to say. It y'all keep fucking around,
00:58:36
y'all about to bring Red Jamie back out and that ain't what you
00:58:38
want let's go. That ain't what you need to come
00:58:43
out, honestly, because. You got people to protect.
00:58:47
Yeah. You know he need to come out.
00:58:49
Because. And, and just based on what I
00:58:52
saw the parts, because I I sparsely remember what the
00:58:55
trailer went up for next week. And just based on what I saw,
00:58:58
I'm like, bro, you need to, you need to, you need to come out
00:59:01
swinging. Yeah.
00:59:05
And yeah, I mean like. When he initially.
00:59:09
Got like weirded out about him being a British officer or
00:59:13
captain or whatever. That that right there should
00:59:17
have stayed like, no, he should have never put his guard down.
00:59:20
Yeah. He should have been on him for,
00:59:23
you know, for that time on. He should have been watching his
00:59:26
every move. Yeah, you know.
00:59:29
Yeah, but. You know, I think.
00:59:34
I think the other thing is that most men don't have the code of
00:59:39
honor that Jamie has because even last week's episode when
00:59:43
they held lodge, he was basically like, look, we don't
00:59:47
leave politics out of this, You know, we, we are here as
00:59:50
brothers. We're going to be supportive of
00:59:54
each other, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:59:56
Other people aren't thinking that way.
00:59:58
Yeah, You know, they're like, oh, OK, so.
01:00:00
This is how he's. Thinking, OK, I can take
01:00:02
advantage of that, right? And I do wonder.
01:00:05
After, because after he caught Cunningham doing his thing, he
01:00:10
did mention, like you said, that people on the Ridge, they don't
01:00:14
really know you, the ones that are there now.
01:00:17
And I do wonder, like how many of those citizens are loyalists
01:00:21
and, and they just don't know at this point, like who's the
01:00:25
majority of them are, are, are loyalists?
01:00:30
Which is. Scary because they can just burn
01:00:32
your house down. And why you sleep right, Right
01:00:36
they. Could, I mean, they could try,
01:00:38
but I mean, Jamie ain't no fool. He may, he may have gotten a
01:00:42
little, I won't even say gotten a little soft hearted, but he's
01:00:46
a little more mellow. But like I said, they bout to
01:00:50
bring that beast out. Yeah, especially.
01:00:55
Because not only do. You have clear to protect.
01:00:58
Brianna and Rodger are back with their kids.
01:01:00
Now you have Fanny. I.
01:01:05
Don't know. What's going to happen with?
01:01:08
This new family that they introduced in this episode, but
01:01:12
at some point Agnes comes to live with them in the book.
01:01:20
So it's just. I don't know.
01:01:23
He has a lot of. People he has to protect.
01:01:26
So now. You are threatening.
01:01:28
That, and not only are you threatening that, you are lying
01:01:32
to me. Yeah, about it.
01:01:35
And. You won't feel any remorse,
01:01:37
right? And one thing we we know Jamie
01:01:40
don't like a liar. Yeah, so, yeah.
01:01:45
And then So what? I did wonder.
01:01:47
Is he did say to Jamie he was like, OK, Jamie had brought up
01:01:51
the fact like you said, you retired, blah, blah, blah,
01:01:53
whatever. And he's like, yeah, but then
01:01:56
some stuff happened that made him want to come out of
01:01:57
retirement. I'm like, yeah, I kind of feel
01:02:00
like you'd never intended on retiring, that it was never
01:02:02
about retiring. And and I instead of saying, you
01:02:06
know, somebody you know, basically came to you and you
01:02:08
had no choice but to like respond like just be honest.
01:02:11
He was out here in these streaks by to try to take over the
01:02:14
Backcountry. That's what she would do
01:02:16
probably. Yep.
01:02:17
And Jamie, just. Came in and kind of messed that
01:02:19
up. He came home, woman.
01:02:21
Yeah. And you didn't know that she.
01:02:24
Would eventually, I mean, he would eventually return, Yeah,
01:02:29
yeah. So next couple episodes is about
01:02:33
to be. Interesting, because we have.
01:02:37
Now we've got 7. Left.
01:02:39
That's a lot of stuff you got to cover if if we're going to do
01:02:41
this war in the Backcountry, whatever this thing.
01:02:46
Is with Fergus. Whatever this mystery is with
01:02:49
Ben again, I really feel like all of this stuff is going to
01:02:52
tie together, so it'll be interesting to see what they do
01:02:56
to tie it all together. Yeah, I'm, I'm very, very
01:03:00
excited to. Know what this Fergus thing is?
01:03:02
I have thoughts, but I'm very excited to know what this is
01:03:04
about because you know. Fergus.
01:03:08
Having a secret life on the side somewhere sounds kind of
01:03:13
awesome. It'll be interesting.
01:03:19
Though I think if if they do what they do in the books, it'll
01:03:22
be very interesting. I'm like, I should put out my
01:03:26
my. Guest and say, OK, I'm just
01:03:29
putting it out there when my guest is OK, what's your guest?
01:03:32
Oh God. OK, so he's from France.
01:03:35
So I feel like he's got a parent who is some kind of higher up
01:03:42
king, Prince, Lord Duke something.
01:03:46
What was the? What was the?
01:03:51
Was it a? Oh my God, the guy who?
01:03:53
Stopped Duke. Duke Cassandra.
01:03:55
Him wasn't one of the people in France too.
01:03:58
Like who else was there? He was an English Duke, though.
01:04:01
Yeah, yeah, he. Was English but he was over
01:04:03
there. Didn't he go to France too?
01:04:05
Yeah, he was back and forth. Yeah, yeah.
01:04:07
But yeah, but I don't know, I don't think it's him, but I'm
01:04:09
just trying to. Think of like anybody we've
01:04:11
crossed in the story that could possibly.
01:04:13
I feel like it 'cause you know what, I ain't gonna lie, every
01:04:15
if it's a historical novel, it's always about parentage.
01:04:18
Like always. So I'm like, OK, that's my guess
01:04:21
is that it's about his parentage because obviously he's born in a
01:04:25
breath hole and blah, blah, blah.
01:04:26
But. So that's my guess y'all.
01:04:28
I don't, I ain't. Spoiling, I don't know, just you
01:04:32
know, go go with it. If you agree with me comment,
01:04:37
yeah, we'll, I'm, I'm sure we'll.
01:04:39
We'll probably find out next episode, especially since Fergus
01:04:43
was in the the preview, you know, maybe we'll get a little
01:04:48
bit more information. But did we talk about everything
01:04:51
in this episode? That's what I'm trying to
01:04:53
remember like I think. We got everything.
01:04:55
I'm I just I? Can't wait to hear what Michelle
01:04:58
has to say about this Jamie and Lord Jonathan, because you know,
01:05:03
she, she, she's been mad with Jamie for a minute, especially
01:05:07
after that fight. She was like, OK, you know what,
01:05:09
Jamie? That's why it wasn't.
01:05:11
That wasn't excessive. The way he beat that.
01:05:14
Man. Was excessive.
01:05:16
I don't care how mad you are. That was bad.
01:05:20
Like, I don't think he beat enemies as bad as he beat John,
01:05:23
you know? That's yeah, but also he don't
01:05:27
really care about the enemies. This this was very personal for
01:05:30
him. Oh, yeah, that's, I get it.
01:05:32
You know, not not only the whole thing about Claire, but also
01:05:36
that's technically speaking, that's your best friend, right?
01:05:40
So yeah, yeah, that's your bestie.
01:05:44
And and and. One of the only people aside
01:05:46
from Claire and Ian that you like trust, right?
01:05:50
And who and who has your? Back right like can you?
01:05:54
Think of the number of times. He could have turned Jamie in as
01:05:57
a traitor person, you know? Or he could have.
01:06:01
He could have let Jamie go. To the colonies with the rest of
01:06:03
the arts Mirror men. Yeah, you know he was.
01:06:06
He wants. He knew his secret and he turned
01:06:08
him down. He's always tried to look.
01:06:11
Out for Jamie, always. So yeah, I'm gonna need Jamie to
01:06:16
get over it, but. You have any final thoughts for?
01:06:20
This episode, oh God. I think, I think it was
01:06:25
actually, it was fine. It was good.
01:06:27
I am because they did bring up Faith again and and this and
01:06:31
this power. I do wonder if that's why they
01:06:34
brought it up. It's because of her new power
01:06:37
versus her actually finding out what happens to Faith.
01:06:41
Just leave it at that now. Well, this is what brought.
01:06:43
Your power. Now we're just going to move
01:06:44
away from the whole faith thing, period, because I kind of feel
01:06:47
like they could do that. Yeah, you know, because it.
01:06:51
Kind of lets it kind of has. A thing where like OK, but they
01:06:54
did but did they say I feel like her and Jamie talk about like
01:06:59
did he bring the baby back Master Raymond?
01:07:03
But see, see that to me again, I think.
01:07:06
That would be highly unlikely because she held faith for an
01:07:11
entire day. Little zombie faith.
01:07:15
So I I just. Don't think if if it's some.
01:07:18
Somewhere within the first few minutes, I feel like there would
01:07:24
be a chance, but I mean, it's just like when someone has a
01:07:27
heart attack and they die and you continue to do CPR,
01:07:30
whatever. Sometimes they come back, but
01:07:32
it's always within a few minutes.
01:07:34
You're not going to have somebody be dead for an hour, 2
01:07:37
hours, then all of a sudden they come back on the table.
01:07:39
It's just not going to happen. So I don't think they, I don't,
01:07:42
I don't think they could have done that with faith.
01:07:44
That would be very unrealistic. And again, I think it would push
01:07:49
the magical aspect to a whole different thing.
01:07:52
And I just, I don't want it to be that.
01:07:55
Yeah, yeah, I don't overly, yeah.
01:07:57
Complicate. Things but more magic.
01:07:59
No, you need. I do wonder how people who have
01:08:03
not read the books though, how they feel about her being
01:08:07
magical, being in that way. Well, I mean, they, they, they
01:08:10
teased it. Out of way, you told her when
01:08:13
you when your hair turns white as snow, you will come into your
01:08:16
full power, you know, So it's, it's not like, again, it's not
01:08:22
like it's beyond the realm of possibility.
01:08:25
I mean, they travel through stones 200 years back.
01:08:28
You know how people are. There can't be werewolves, but
01:08:31
vampires exist. There can't be.
01:08:33
Fairies, but vampires exist. Yeah, yeah.
01:08:38
Yeah, you know, but yeah, that's yeah.
01:08:41
I can't wait for next. Week me either so yeah, I think
01:08:45
I. Think we're going to try to
01:08:46
watch that together and do some reactions because of some stuff
01:08:49
happens next week. Like I think it's going to
01:08:52
happen. I need I need to see you on
01:08:53
Michelle's faces. So yeah.
01:08:56
