#outlander #bloodofmyblood In England 1917, Julia Moriston's job at the Redactment Office during World War I changes her life when she comes across a letter from a troubled soldier. The resulting correspondence with Lt. Henry Beauchamp becomes a lifeline for them both as they try to hold on to hope amidst death and destruction. After a whirlwind courtship, marriage, and parenthood, they are on holiday in Scotland when a car accident puts them on a life-altering path. When Julia - and then Henry - each stumble through the stones at Craigh Na Dun and arrive in the early 1700s, each must figure out how to navigate through this strange time, while also figuring out how to get back to each other and the daughter they left behind, Claire.

00:00:25
What's up, hybrids? Welcome back to another episode
00:00:27
of the Phantom Hybrid Podcast. This is Hanukkah and I'm here
00:00:31
with Michelle and Dina, and we are discussing episode 2 of
00:00:35
Outlander, Blood of My Blood. And this episode gives us the
00:00:40
background of Claire's parents, which is very interesting
00:00:46
because as book readers or as fans of the original show, we
00:00:51
really have no background whatsoever about Claire's
00:00:55
parents except for the fact that they married.
00:00:58
They died in a car accident when she was 5, and we know that her
00:01:02
dad had a brother who raised her.
00:01:05
So we're getting some in new information, which I thought was
00:01:11
great. I love the way that this episode
00:01:14
took place because of course, with it being Claire's parents
00:01:17
and with it, you know, we're finding out that they're time
00:01:20
travelers. This episode is a little bit of
00:01:22
a little bit chaotic because they're going back and forth.
00:01:25
They're not telling the story in a linear fashion like we're used
00:01:28
to with let's say the Mckenzie's.
00:01:30
But how did you guys feel about the second episode of this
00:01:33
series? Are you still feeling the high
00:01:36
from episode 1? Are you still like All In?
00:01:39
Has anything changed? What do you think?
00:01:42
For this one, I think this one was just really romantic.
00:01:47
It was sad and it was heartbreaking and beautiful.
00:01:52
It just had like all the romance you can just stand about like
00:01:56
how they fell and looks. I mean, it this like, you know,
00:02:00
I hate to compare it to this, but it's like, look, what is it
00:02:02
with love without? Oh, God, what is the name of
00:02:04
that show for love at first sight or without sight, whatever
00:02:08
that show is where you just, you love is blind.
00:02:12
Love is blind. Yeah.
00:02:13
That show like you have to get to know the person.
00:02:15
You have to like, they have to like write it all out.
00:02:18
And you got to like get to know all from that.
00:02:20
It's not about looks. It's not about they didn't know
00:02:22
anything really about each other other than what they got in
00:02:25
those letters to fall in love. And that's so, so something so
00:02:28
romantic about that and something so beautiful that they
00:02:32
just, you know, had this. It was very 'cause The thing is,
00:02:36
like, obviously when Ellen and Brian see each other, it's like
00:02:40
love at first sight, for real. Like, bam, she's hot, she's
00:02:43
beautiful, whatever. They're both, you know, But with
00:02:46
Henry and Julia, it's a whole different type of falling in
00:02:49
love. And I loved it.
00:02:51
Yeah. Yeah.
00:02:53
I I totally agree. Yeah, it's so different because
00:02:56
they actually just really got to know each other and it was at
00:02:59
the lowest point of his life. And the letters back and forth
00:03:05
and then him figuring out it's her just from probably
00:03:08
description in the letters or how he imagined her to be.
00:03:12
And like they fell in love without even seeing each other
00:03:15
and touching each other. I, I loved it for that.
00:03:19
That's why I called it the lake house.
00:03:21
But I love the lake house. So it was out.
00:03:26
It was great. Yeah, I, I thought that the way
00:03:29
that they started the episode, you know, with Henry, like in
00:03:33
the midst of the First World War.
00:03:37
You know, one thing that we know is true of Outlander.
00:03:40
Outlander you know, as good as the story is, it is rooted in a
00:03:45
lot of violence. And you even see that kind of
00:03:48
sort of with the the first episode, not necessarily
00:03:51
violence, but I mean, we start the whole series off with the
00:03:54
death of Red Jacob. So you know that there's always
00:03:58
going to be heartbreak associated with this story.
00:04:00
And just to see Henry go through what he goes through, not only
00:04:06
on the field, but even when he comes back, when he does return
00:04:10
and after they've got married, to see him go through his PTSDI.
00:04:14
Think Dina and I messaging each other.
00:04:16
We were both like, Oh my God, I cried because he was like, it
00:04:21
felt so real the way that he played that.
00:04:25
But yeah, I loved seeing their story as far as them falling in
00:04:32
love through the letters because again, they didn't have like
00:04:34
social media, they didn't have phones or they didn't have that
00:04:38
kind of contact. You know, Julia even makes a a
00:04:41
statement about she doesn't even know what his voice sounds like.
00:04:45
But the silence is deafening when, you know, they're when his
00:04:50
regiment had been attacked and she didn't know if he was dead
00:04:53
or alive. And I just thought that was so
00:04:55
sweet because I've, you know, you read stories like that or
00:05:00
even could personally have, you know, had experiences like that.
00:05:05
And it's something about the way that they play it.
00:05:08
It's so believable. And it also for me, I felt like,
00:05:12
OK, this does seem like one of those stories where it almost
00:05:17
feels like the universe is pulling them together because
00:05:21
Julia works at the redaction office, which I didn't even know
00:05:24
was really a thing. Like, I, I remember hearing
00:05:26
that, but you don't really think about like, what does it mean to
00:05:31
work in a redaction office? And they basically go through
00:05:34
all of the letters that are sent and they take out anything that
00:05:38
can give away where their locations are or even anything
00:05:42
that's really unpleasant because these letters are going to their
00:05:46
family members. And I guess, I don't know, maybe
00:05:49
the thought is the family members are already stressed and
00:05:53
probably already worried because they're people are at war, so
00:05:56
they don't want to give them anything else to worry about.
00:05:59
But it's spice. Well, Oh yes, I'm sorry,
00:06:02
location and that too can't. Know any location and what's
00:06:05
happening in that location? Yeah, that too.
00:06:08
But it took me a minute though, too, 'cause I was like, So what,
00:06:11
they marking off? Well, don't mark off the whole
00:06:14
leather. That don't seem right.
00:06:15
And then I realized always places, the locations.
00:06:18
Oh yeah, I get it. 'Cause I even paused one of the
00:06:21
letters that Julia did and I was like, I don't see what's so bad
00:06:25
about that. But again, I'm not living in 19
00:06:27
early 1900s so it it wouldn't strike me as weird.
00:06:33
I did wonder if they redacted and then had somebody just
00:06:37
rewrite it without that information like they this is
00:06:41
what I want you to take out of the letter, rewrite it so that
00:06:43
this has never been in the later and then somebody else send it
00:06:45
off or they just send it redacted because that's so
00:06:48
messed up to get your. Letter and it's black, black,
00:06:51
black, black. Black.
00:06:52
OK, but I think it would be even worse to get a letter that you
00:06:56
know comes from your other one, but it's not written by them.
00:07:00
So yeah, that's true. And again back then.
00:07:04
And it makes no sense. They probably understood too,
00:07:07
like, OK, there's some things that, you know, they're probably
00:07:09
checking all the mail that this is, you know, they don't really
00:07:14
put a high price on privacy in in those times.
00:07:18
So they they probably didn't even think about it.
00:07:22
But you know, so she happens to, she's answering letters and as
00:07:28
she's going to reach for one, something kind of pulls her to
00:07:32
the letter that's at the bottom. And it just happens to be
00:07:35
Henry's letter. And he's writing an open letter,
00:07:39
not to anyone in particular because at this point in the
00:07:41
war, he's kind of despairing. He just lost one of his
00:07:45
soldiers. And he's like, what is the whole
00:07:47
point? Why am I even here?
00:07:48
All I see is death and destruction around me.
00:07:51
And it's just like, it's hard to have the, you know, the strength
00:07:54
of the the will to go on. And she feels compelled to write
00:07:58
back to the letter. And thus starts their
00:08:00
correspondence. And I just thought it was so
00:08:03
beautiful because like I said, you see it and it almost looks
00:08:06
like something is pulling her towards his letter.
00:08:10
And then later on when she's full of despair and she thinks
00:08:13
that, you know, she doesn't know what's happening to him and
00:08:15
she's just kind of taking this slow walk home.
00:08:19
And I don't know if it's because he knew the area that she, you
00:08:23
know, that she lived in and that she worked in.
00:08:25
And maybe he was going through that area hoping to find her.
00:08:29
But it's almost, again, like something just kind of draws him
00:08:32
towards this woman. He's just like, hope springs
00:08:36
eternal. She turns around.
00:08:37
She's like, what Henry? And I just thought it was.
00:08:42
I thought it was so sweet because, you know, they kind of
00:08:47
go through this whirlwind romance.
00:08:48
If you're looking at the timeline, which Michelle and I,
00:08:50
we always, we're always talking about timelines because we deal
00:08:53
with The Walking Dead. But in this timeline, we can
00:08:58
kind of get an idea of where they are in years because of
00:09:02
course this is for First World War, which started in 1914.
00:09:07
And Julia's boss says something about you would think that after
00:09:12
three years I would have gotten used to this.
00:09:14
So that puts it right around 1917 as far as when they start
00:09:19
corresponding, when they meet. We know that Claire was born in
00:09:22
1918 from the original show when when Murta learns the truth so
00:09:30
well, not just them, but also when she tells Jamie the truth
00:09:33
about her. So this is a very quick
00:09:35
courtship, OK, probably, they probably corresponded over the
00:09:40
months. And then he gets his leave and
00:09:43
it looks like why he's on his leave.
00:09:45
He was like, yeah, we're going to go ahead and take care of
00:09:47
this marriage thing because I'm not about to to lose you or
00:09:53
anything like that, lose you to any Scotland men or whatever the
00:09:56
case may be. Yeah.
00:10:00
And not to mention, like, you just never know what was going
00:10:02
to happen. So he could die at any moment or
00:10:05
they could bomb London, right? You know, So like, it could be
00:10:11
anything to happen. It's very, very scary.
00:10:17
Yeah. And, you know, for those of us
00:10:19
who are living in these times, you know, we've seen war in our
00:10:24
lifetime, but we've never seen it on, you know, in our
00:10:27
backyard. Like, I've never had to walk out
00:10:30
my door and worry about whether or not we're going to get
00:10:32
aerated or whether anything. Like, we've been lucky in that
00:10:37
sense. I can't imagine you just sitting
00:10:39
in your flat, minding your own business, painting a portrait,
00:10:43
and you hear these airplanes and you go and look, and there's all
00:10:46
these aircraft now. I would have looked at that and
00:10:51
I would have immediately been finding a shelter because I'm
00:10:53
like, they're a little too low to be flying in the air.
00:10:56
Like, but yeah, I mean, just minding your own business and
00:11:02
all of a sudden you're in the middle of air raid.
00:11:04
Just no. So like you say, yeah, it's time
00:11:09
for us to get married. Let's just go ahead and not
00:11:11
leave this to chance because I may go back overseas and never
00:11:15
get to come back, you know, or even with her, I might just stay
00:11:19
here and something can happen. But then it's like we get them
00:11:24
married. And then like we said, we see
00:11:28
the little post traumatic stress that he deals with from the gas
00:11:32
bombing that he experienced earlier.
00:11:34
And then it moves forward in the story to where we see Julia wake
00:11:40
up at the stones. And I was like, what we get
00:11:43
here? And I forgot that we saw the
00:11:45
accident. In the.
00:11:46
Last episode, so I was like, OK, so this is going to kind of I
00:11:51
feel like they're going to kind of push and pull us with these
00:11:55
characters because that's kind of the nature of Claire's whole
00:11:59
side of the family. I guess their story is kind of
00:12:02
like they're they're back and forth between two timelines.
00:12:05
So it's kind of like. But the the the most their love
00:12:11
story is so sad. It's beautiful, but sad.
00:12:18
It's beautiful in that they found each other during dramatic
00:12:21
time. It's beautiful that they have a
00:12:23
very deep connection. It's beautiful that they both
00:12:26
travel. I got AI got a a a little plot
00:12:29
hole. Not plot hole, but like
00:12:31
technical issue with the traveling.
00:12:33
OK, what's that? Come back to that in just a
00:12:35
second. And that that two travelers got
00:12:38
together. And then the worst part of it,
00:12:40
because we've been in the future and the past, They never made it
00:12:45
home and that's absolutely sucked.
00:12:47
So the only hope that we have for this couple is that they can
00:12:50
get back together. At least as far as we know, they
00:12:54
never made it home. Well, for Claire point of view,
00:12:58
they never made it home. Yeah, yeah.
00:13:01
They, you know, honestly, they she grew up without her parents.
00:13:04
They didn't see her. So even if they come home now
00:13:09
and they're in there and they're they're in their 30s and she 80,
00:13:13
I don't know. That may work.
00:13:15
However, it's that that part is so clear after watching this.
00:13:21
No, they didn't die of a car crash.
00:13:23
They traveled, but they never made it back to their baby.
00:13:28
That's hard. And my little plot hole is OK.
00:13:31
So she had a stone. Where was his stone?
00:13:34
Must have missed a stone somewhere.
00:13:38
If he. Had a kidney stone.
00:13:40
I mean, what kind of stone? I mean, he isn't a stone.
00:13:45
I'm trying to remember. Cause the stone was out of her
00:13:48
ring. Right.
00:13:52
And I, I, I don't think I think he he may have only had on a.
00:13:55
Plane, which is a could be an important thing because they do
00:14:01
know that you have to have a stone and they showed her ring
00:14:04
without the stone. So then I start to question
00:14:08
something else, maybe about him it's a little different.
00:14:11
Could he travel without stones? You know.
00:14:14
But we'll learn more. Yeah, 'cause I'm going to say
00:14:16
it. It, it is possible that there
00:14:19
are more than one way that that there are more ways to travel
00:14:23
because we know this from Galen Gayla's Duncan and her research.
00:14:28
Because she was like, OK, you either need a gym or you need
00:14:31
blood, you know, and it's like that's, that's what she did in
00:14:36
order to travel when she went back to the 1700s, she
00:14:40
sacrificed her husband. So it's possible there just.
00:14:44
Go get a ring. That would have been much like
00:14:47
easier. You had a choice, a stone or
00:14:52
kill someone and you chose to kill someone that really failed
00:14:55
her. Did you meet?
00:14:56
Her. I did.
00:14:57
But when you put it like that, either way, when we watch the
00:15:01
show, I don't think about it. But when you put it like that,
00:15:03
you're like, ma'am, just get a stone.
00:15:06
But yeah, we don't know. We don't know.
00:15:08
I just found it interesting 'cause like once he travels, I
00:15:11
wonder how he traveled. He just had a proclivity for
00:15:15
killing when you really think about galas though.
00:15:18
Honestly, yeah, she did. She used to like that, yeah.
00:15:21
She was like the original Black Widow, Yeah.
00:15:25
Just but and then you don't and it could be connection wise too,
00:15:30
you don't know. It could be like like they were
00:15:33
supposed to be together. She got pulled and then he got
00:15:37
pulled with. Her because it's true, but it's
00:15:41
so crazy to me that he literally went up the hill not minutes
00:15:47
after she disappeared and it seemed like there was such a big
00:15:52
gap from when she arrived to when he arrived, you know,
00:15:57
because she had time to look around, call around for him,
00:16:01
have a whole conversation with the people in the cart that
00:16:04
ended up taking her to Inverness.
00:16:07
But that was the thing that kind of confused me about the whole
00:16:12
thing because I'm like, how long did it take?
00:16:15
Like, I don't know if maybe for him, maybe there was a pool of
00:16:19
her, but there was also a pool of Claire.
00:16:22
So maybe it took longer for him because his, I don't know, the
00:16:27
whatever the forces that may be in the stones was trying to
00:16:31
figure out where he was going to go, but.
00:16:34
It's also a just a delight because if we watch other stuff
00:16:38
about time traveling, someone goes through, there is a it is a
00:16:42
delight. Sometimes the delay is longer
00:16:44
than you want it to be. A day, 2 days, this could have
00:16:47
just been an hour. If they went together, they will
00:16:50
be together going separate. They least came to the same
00:16:54
time. But it just you know, they don't
00:16:57
have the pillars, don't have a watch.
00:16:59
So they shot him out and it was an hour later, so.
00:17:04
Yeah, and this is my thing, Julie.
00:17:08
You could have sat there and just waited.
00:17:09
You could have been like, you know what, maybe he went to go
00:17:12
get help. I mean, I know when you come out
00:17:14
the stones, the the surroundings look a little different.
00:17:18
Things are a little bit more green that you're then you're
00:17:21
used to. But I will say this too, as far
00:17:24
as Julia and Henry or I would say even more so Henry.
00:17:29
And I don't know if it's because of the fact that Henry is used
00:17:32
to seeing trauma, that he's used to things kind of not looking in
00:17:38
place, but that's just it to where they are basically quickly
00:17:45
and fairly well, considering that you just jumped 200 years
00:17:51
into the past and you're trying to figure out what the hell is
00:17:53
going on. Yeah.
00:17:55
Like Julia had a little bit more of a hers was a little bit more
00:18:00
traumatic because of her course, her being a woman, she's treated
00:18:04
differently. Like these people just saw her
00:18:07
on the side of the street, knocked her out and and sold her
00:18:10
to pay. Their debt like.
00:18:16
I was sitting here and again, I have to keep telling myself 17
00:18:19
hundreds, 1700s, but that means even the other people in the
00:18:23
neighborhood. Nobody actually is like cared.
00:18:28
The you just kidnapped me and just sold me off.
00:18:31
I'm a married woman. I'm telling you, I got a husband
00:18:33
and I'm looking for and you just sold me off and don't care.
00:18:36
And they didn't care that you just snatched me off the road.
00:18:39
Right, because you're sitting there telling I'm not a maid
00:18:42
servant like I'm like I'm Julia Morrison or Julia Beecham of
00:18:46
learning. He was like, well, Nope, you're
00:18:48
Julia Beecham. That belongs to Lord Simon
00:18:50
Lovitz. What?
00:18:53
I just that threw me off at a different time.
00:18:57
But still even the neighbors like you can't go out and walk
00:19:01
to the market it because you may get kidnapped to be so as
00:19:04
someone's right to pay for someone's debt the.
00:19:09
Whole thing is just so, so weird and and here's the other crazy
00:19:14
thing. So you are in the 1700s and you
00:19:18
see this stray woman or you see this stray man, y'all not
00:19:22
looking at the way they're dressed and thinking something
00:19:25
suspicious about them, right? It just seems very, it's a
00:19:29
little too clean if you ask me. I think that's probably the only
00:19:33
issue I may have with this version of events because
00:19:37
there's no suspicion there. Like, this woman is clearly
00:19:42
dressed in a way that the other women are not dressed in this
00:19:46
time period. Her hair is loose.
00:19:48
It's not bound. She has on a little bit of
00:19:51
makeup. It's just there's some things
00:19:55
there that don't add up if you're in the 1700s, you know?
00:20:02
And it was thanks to like with Henry, even like Henry's suit
00:20:06
and like what he's wearing and they're just like, whatever.
00:20:10
And even the the manner of speech, like, yes, they're
00:20:13
they're Sassanix, they're they're they're England, you
00:20:16
know, they're from England. But still just the the cadence
00:20:20
of their voice, the way that they speak, the way that they
00:20:22
pronounce words as opposed to the way the Scots do it there.
00:20:27
There's just something a little different about them.
00:20:30
And it's like, OK, yeah, you guys are from England, but
00:20:34
there's something still strange about you.
00:20:35
But nobody seems to question it. You know, Lord Lovett is just
00:20:39
like, oh, well, you know, I got to think about my needs.
00:20:42
I need a new. I need a new piece of ass or
00:20:44
something. I mean, it's literally the way
00:20:45
he comes across. When Brian tries to says we
00:20:49
still get the Connors coin. We've seen another person.
00:20:52
He was like, why do you say that?
00:20:53
He was like, Dad, the house falling apart.
00:20:55
The Connors are almost empty. Like, we broke.
00:20:59
And Lord Lovett is like but I'm horny so that Trump's it all.
00:21:03
What? Got to got to keep the coochie
00:21:06
train going. Just like you know it and you
00:21:12
know, like when we meet the old Fox's character in the original
00:21:17
show, he really was an ass. He really was one of those
00:21:20
characters that you were like, I don't understand how you have
00:21:24
children. Which once I watched it, I was
00:21:27
like, oh, that's how you have children.
00:21:30
But it's just like, he is a horrible, horrible man.
00:21:35
And as much as I love Tony Curran as an actor, I'm like,
00:21:39
I'm never going to be able to look at you the same again
00:21:41
'cause you play such a despicable character.
00:21:44
It's not the first time he's played a character that I
00:21:46
couldn't stand. But to this degree, it's just
00:21:49
like. And he treats Ryan horribly,
00:21:55
right? And it's like, how do you and,
00:22:00
and I, I guess all credit has to go to to his mother, who, you
00:22:04
know, we know that that's his mother, but I don't think he's
00:22:08
said anything yet in this episode to to, you know, make us
00:22:13
know that that's his mother. But how did you raise such a
00:22:17
decent son? Because obviously, even even
00:22:21
what we know Brian Fraser from the Outlander series, the books,
00:22:25
and just like he was a good, decent man.
00:22:29
Yeah. Because he saw.
00:22:31
Fell way. Yeah, he saw his dad and was
00:22:34
like, I'm disgusted, right? Totally gonna be the opposite.
00:22:38
Right. But I guess you know, back in
00:22:40
that time, you know a Lord who claims you as his bastard son.
00:22:46
That's better than being ignored.
00:22:48
Well, that's what I was thinking.
00:22:49
It's like Willy Wonka talking to Charlie and Charlie and
00:22:52
Chocolate Factory. You're just happy to be here
00:22:54
because you broke you poor, and just being here was enough for
00:22:57
you. You didn't even need to get
00:22:59
inherit anything. Just being able to have this
00:23:01
experience was just enough for you.
00:23:03
And I feel like Brian was grateful because his Mama had a
00:23:07
job. She didn't get sent away.
00:23:09
He's been taking care of his whole life.
00:23:11
His daddy's crappy, but you know what?
00:23:13
He he, he, he got a place to lie.
00:23:15
He's he's content. Yeah, with his life.
00:23:18
I mean, obviously he would prefer, you know, his dad be a
00:23:21
better person, but, you know, and then he has murder.
00:23:24
Murder is there to like, you know, so.
00:23:28
Kind of bear bear some of that because you know, even thinking
00:23:31
about it in the first episode, the way he talks to Murta is
00:23:37
even, you know, I don't know, I feel like he I was going to say,
00:23:43
I feel like he respects Merta more, but that's not really what
00:23:47
I want to say because I don't think it's bad, but it's like, I
00:23:51
don't know, something about the way that he treats the both of
00:23:54
them is like, and it could also be because Merta doesn't talk
00:23:59
back. Merta is just like, again, Merta
00:24:02
is a ward in his house. So he's like, look, I got food.
00:24:06
I can come and go as I please for the most part.
00:24:10
All I got to do is oh, you want me to go to this funeral and
00:24:13
spy? OK, you know what I really don't
00:24:14
want to do it and I'm telling you I don't want to do it but OK
00:24:17
I'll do it. You know cuz what I'm kissing
00:24:20
blood. So he probably feeling like let
00:24:22
me shut the hell up, right? He's like, OK, I'm walking this
00:24:26
fine line in between 2 worlds but OK, I'm going to go spy for
00:24:30
you. But I'm not letting you know I'm
00:24:32
spying for you. I'm going to see my auntie.
00:24:34
You know, we have a little bit of, I guess a little more
00:24:38
freedom than Brian in that way. But I, you know, Brian does
00:24:42
stand up to him. It may not always take, but at
00:24:46
least we know Brian is not just sitting around just letting
00:24:49
things lie. Like even with this one, when he
00:24:52
sees Julia and all this stuff, he's like, yo, let's go get us,
00:24:55
let's go get that coin. Because obviously she don't want
00:24:57
to be here. Obviously she probably shouldn't
00:25:00
be here. And I think that's one of the
00:25:01
things Brian was kind of looking like, wait, he's assessing the
00:25:04
situation, you know, from the background, like, OK, so these
00:25:09
people just gave her to us. Something about that doesn't
00:25:13
seem right, but. Where did you find this puppy?
00:25:17
Right, like how you just give people away.
00:25:19
But I forgot we black. We know what that's like.
00:25:21
So you know, it's just kind of like, oh, OK, they've always
00:25:26
done this. But yeah, that dude is just, he
00:25:32
is disgusting. And then on the other side of
00:25:35
things, you have, like I said, Henry has it a little bit
00:25:38
easier. He's not a woman.
00:25:40
So it's not like somebody's going to knock him out and sell
00:25:42
him to anybody. But he's going to have to make
00:25:45
his own way because he is a man in a very manly world.
00:25:48
Like Scottish men, especially of that time, they're very much,
00:25:53
you know, macho man, They're alpha man.
00:25:55
They're very, very much, oh, who are you?
00:25:59
Oh, we don't like you. We're just going to kick your
00:26:00
ass and be done with you. Which almost happens to him.
00:26:03
Yeah, right. But he can fight.
00:26:06
He can fight. He.
00:26:06
Was also most almost thrown in that.
00:26:08
Wheel. So yeah, you need to watch his
00:26:10
words. Yeah, yeah, but that's the other
00:26:13
thing because I don't even know like I know when he walked into
00:26:17
the pub and he starts looking around and he sees that
00:26:20
declaration on the wall that says 1714.
00:26:23
He's just like, I mean, you even see it on his face.
00:26:26
He's like, what the hell? OK, look, it's a.
00:26:28
Reenactment. A real reenactment.
00:26:31
Right. But then when you open your
00:26:33
mouth and you say something to everybody's like hold up and you
00:26:35
see swords, that should have been your first clue because one
00:26:39
again, you're looking at the people, they're not dressed like
00:26:42
you at all. And I will go so far as to say,
00:26:46
OK, maybe this is just in his mind, like, oh, OK, you know
00:26:49
what? I did tell Julia I've never been
00:26:51
to Scotland. I don't know what they're
00:26:52
dressed like in Scotland. So maybe that that could explain
00:26:56
it for him and be like, OK, so they're dressed a little
00:26:59
differently here, OK. But then when you see how
00:27:02
they're paying for for the drinks, when you see the
00:27:05
conversation that's happening and you see the swords on their
00:27:10
hips, that should have been a dead giveaway because I don't
00:27:13
think anybody was carrying swords and nights in 1900s like
00:27:17
that. And you know, they probably saw
00:27:19
pictures and textbooks at that point, like they grew up
00:27:23
probably seeing what a Highlander looked like in a
00:27:26
book, like something should have clicked.
00:27:28
Like, yeah, but then, you know, he makes the he makes a comment
00:27:34
to who we find out later as Malcolm Grant, because they are
00:27:38
in the pub and they're they're negotiating over some land.
00:27:43
And Malcolm's guy who's with him, he was like, yeah, I think
00:27:47
this is a good deal they're offering you.
00:27:49
And Harry just says, yeah, I hope they brought those D's.
00:27:52
And everybody stops and they're like, what the hell you say?
00:27:55
And he's just looking like, oh, maybe I stuck my foot in my
00:28:01
mouth. Like that's I think at the point
00:28:03
where he started realizing, OK, I'm not in Kansas anymore.
00:28:06
What is going on? They get ready to throw him down
00:28:10
the well because he's basically thwarting a shady deal.
00:28:18
But Malcolm Grant is like, OK, So what you just told me, let's
00:28:22
go talk to my father. Tell my father what you said,
00:28:24
and then we'll we'll come back and visit this.
00:28:27
So he goes to meet the older Isaac, the older Grant Isaac.
00:28:31
And he's like, yeah. So basically they were trying
00:28:34
to, you know, they were trying to scam your son out of some
00:28:37
some land. And this is how you know, and
00:28:39
this is what you're supposed to do.
00:28:41
So then he turns around and tells him because he wants to,
00:28:45
he just wants to leave. And they're like, OK, but so how
00:28:49
do you know this was taking place?
00:28:50
He was like, oh, yeah, I saw your man over there.
00:28:52
Your man was taking some coin, you know, to kind of to kind of
00:28:56
betray him. And then that's when I realized
00:29:01
that the skinny dude was arch. Bug.
00:29:03
Arch bug. Oh yeah.
00:29:05
Because the even the way like 1 I saw the ponytail and I was
00:29:10
like, wait, grants, grants. Oh, that's who that is.
00:29:14
When they realized that the guy did have extra coin and he told
00:29:18
him to take him in the back and handle them and you hear the
00:29:21
beating up and stuff. I was like, yeah, that's
00:29:23
probably that's arch book. Because of course we met his
00:29:26
character. He's already old.
00:29:28
He's already missing his two fingers, and we don't see him
00:29:32
doing a lot of fighting. Like we know he will stand up
00:29:36
for at the time, the Frasers if he needed to.
00:29:39
But I was like, yeah, this is the arch bug that made us afraid
00:29:44
for Ian because we saw he had that potential in him.
00:29:49
Just the way that he kind of made that threat to end after
00:29:52
Medina was was killed. Yeah, you're seeing it in its
00:29:56
full prime form right here. I was like, OK.
00:30:02
Yeah, he goes down there doing the dirt.
00:30:07
Right. And you, we're just thinking
00:30:09
that he's just beating them up a little bit.
00:30:11
Then they give Henry the option. They're like, OK, so now we need
00:30:15
a new blade here and we need somebody.
00:30:17
And we need somebody who's smart, who knows what he's
00:30:20
talking about. Why don't you come work for us?
00:30:22
And Henry, at this point, he's realizing if I come work for
00:30:25
you, I can't look for my wife. I can't figure out how the hell
00:30:28
I got here and how the hell to get back home.
00:30:30
No, I'm not going to do that, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:30:33
And then they kind of sweeten the deal because they're like,
00:30:36
OK, you looking for your wife? We got resources.
00:30:40
We have connections, We have our name.
00:30:43
We can help you with this. You scratch our back, we scratch
00:30:46
yours. And so here is like, OK, I think
00:30:49
this can work because again, right now you are in a time that
00:30:54
you are unfamiliar with. You were in a place that you're
00:30:57
unfamiliar with. You don't know where your wife
00:30:59
is. You have no coin.
00:31:01
You have no place to lay your head like you are literally just
00:31:04
kind of out there. So why not take advantage of,
00:31:08
you know this offer if it's going to help you get what you
00:31:12
what you want? Yep, that's true.
00:31:16
That's very true. And to me, not to mention, like,
00:31:20
you know, you got a a whole job out of this.
00:31:23
Like think about people who would have went to the past and
00:31:27
and couldn't do nothing, like couldn't do nothing.
00:31:29
Like I don't know how to farm or I don't want to be a laborer.
00:31:32
Like what can I do? If I go to the past?
00:31:34
I can't do what I do now back then.
00:31:36
So it's or get. Sold to play Pay somebody else's
00:31:39
debt. Right, right 'cause I won't.
00:31:41
Right, 'cause I won't worry. Like he just really, yeah, he
00:31:44
was really lucky about that. He just, he just, he just lucked
00:31:49
up, but I don't know how lucky he thinks he is because when
00:31:53
when they walk outside to show him his new quarters, he was
00:31:58
like, So what happened to the other guy?
00:31:59
Well, there he is right there and this like this guy, they
00:32:02
literally put his head on a Pike.
00:32:03
I was like, OK, so Henry at this point is thinking, what the hell
00:32:07
did I just get myself into? Because it's out 1700s.
00:32:12
There's no, there's no law and order, so to speak.
00:32:17
Like literally there is Clan justice.
00:32:19
I, I think I remember Jamie saying that in the original
00:32:22
show. Or Dougal, maybe Clan Justice.
00:32:26
You, you wronged us. You, you cheat us.
00:32:29
You steal from us. You do this.
00:32:31
We're going to handle it our way.
00:32:32
There is no calling the cops and sending you to trial.
00:32:35
Oh, no, you did this. OK, We're going to take a
00:32:37
finger. You did this or we going to take
00:32:39
your head. I did wonder if for some reason
00:32:43
that money wasn't on that dude, would they have come back for
00:32:47
Henry? Because that's kind of the proof
00:32:49
that it was some shady stuff was that he actually had the money.
00:32:53
What if he didn't have the money on?
00:32:54
What if he had hidden it by then?
00:32:56
Like, Oh my God, yeah, they just killed him immediately.
00:33:01
Yeah, But I mean. I I think if Henry wouldn't have
00:33:05
been sure, he probably wouldn't have said anything, but since
00:33:09
that's literally the first thing he saw.
00:33:12
Those were the first two people he saw when he came into you
00:33:16
know, quote UN quote town trying to figure out where he was and
00:33:18
what was going on. He literally saw them, the money
00:33:22
change hands. And then, of course, this guy
00:33:24
goes home with them. He's in the room with them.
00:33:27
So he really hasn't had a chance to go put his stuff up, hide or
00:33:31
anything, because Arch Bug is there with them the whole time,
00:33:36
you know, and Arch, knowing what we know about Arch, you know, he
00:33:41
may have been a lackey or he may have been a bodyguard.
00:33:44
But Arch was also quick on the tape.
00:33:46
He paid attention to things. He knew things.
00:33:49
So once they got into that room and they were doing all the
00:33:52
negotiating and the guy was like, Oh, yeah, it sounds like a
00:33:56
pretty good offer they giving you.
00:33:58
The moment Henry spoke up, Arch was probably paying attention.
00:34:01
Like, what would cause a stranger to speak up like that?
00:34:04
And, and something that he has no interest in, something he's
00:34:08
not vested in. Why would he speak up like that?
00:34:12
That is something I think would make a person like Arch pay
00:34:15
attention to the situation and start, you know, kind of seeing
00:34:20
what everybody else is doing or how everybody else is acting.
00:34:24
And if somebody was acting kind of suspicious, he probably would
00:34:27
have picked up on it, which is why he had no problem when Isaac
00:34:31
Grant was like, yeah, check him out.
00:34:32
Yeah, come on, let's go. Because I think he probably, at
00:34:35
that point had already figured it out.
00:34:38
Yeah, I know. Like, like, y'all beat him.
00:34:44
Y'all just can't stay out of trouble.
00:34:46
No, look. Not at all.
00:34:48
Seriously. Because not.
00:34:49
Even not even just stay out of trouble, stay out of folks
00:34:52
business, stay out just I, I don't know, you don't know how
00:34:57
to blend into the background. But I guess again, in a way
00:35:01
that's good in some circumstances.
00:35:03
And Henry's particular because now he has resources to try to
00:35:09
help him find Julia. Now, Julia, on the other hand,
00:35:16
you've been sold. You're under the, I don't know,
00:35:23
I don't want to say ownership. That's just, it just sounds so
00:35:28
disgusting. But now you know, you're under
00:35:31
Lord Lovett figuratively, if not literally yet, because you know,
00:35:37
that's probably going to come with him.
00:35:39
Just given what we know about his background and even just
00:35:42
what he said about Brian. He's planning on this being one
00:35:45
of his bad toys, so she's gonna have to be careful.
00:35:50
But my thing is she was told not to Ling in the room.
00:35:54
She keep lingering in the room. I'm like honey, move quicker.
00:35:58
I'll be honest, I she's still slow move.
00:36:05
She's still slow moving though. I mean, she's like, she wanted
00:36:08
to have conversations. Yeah.
00:36:10
You don't want to have conversations.
00:36:12
Let's. Go But you know what, if you
00:36:13
think about it, it's similar to kind of like Claire like she's
00:36:16
trying to gather information because one she's really sitting
00:36:19
here trying to figure out how the hell she ended up in 1715
00:36:22
like. You live in your bedroom.
00:36:25
Well, that that and also, I feel like she's so used to being a
00:36:29
free woman to say and do what she pleases.
00:36:32
She really, it's really hard to bring that in because even for
00:36:34
Claire, Jesus H Roosevelt, Christ was coming out her mouth
00:36:37
every two seconds and every two seconds.
00:36:40
Yes, you are blaspheming. I need you to calm down.
00:36:42
You know, like that mindset is probably really hard to like,
00:36:46
you know, ignore and try to like, you know, I just, yeah, I
00:36:49
probably be cussing a lot if I was.
00:36:51
Yeah. And then I mean, we we also saw
00:36:54
Julia is like you said, she's a free woman.
00:36:56
But not only that, she's very strong, she's very independent.
00:37:00
She does put you in mind of Claire, which this is something
00:37:03
weird. I saw.
00:37:04
I saw a review, I can't remember where it was from, and somebody
00:37:10
basically the the writer of the review was saying that the thing
00:37:14
that had them eye rolling the most about blood of my blood,
00:37:19
they're like, it's almost like you took a carbon copy of Claire
00:37:23
and and put, you know, made her, her mother be almost similar to
00:37:28
her, which they were like, that's so unrealistic because
00:37:32
most daughters try to, you know, they go the opposite direction
00:37:36
of what their mothers are. Whatever.
00:37:38
And I'm like, but you're not thinking about the fact that
00:37:42
Claire lost her mother at 5:00. And even as a child, even in the
00:37:46
little bit of a description that we got of her in the end of
00:37:49
Episode 1, Claire's very much already very independent child,
00:37:54
very intelligent, very smart. You know, she's with Uncle Lamb
00:37:58
at the British Museum probably. And they were like, yeah, Uncle
00:38:01
Lamb's probably going to have her translating hieroglyphics.
00:38:04
This is not something you say about a child that's just, you
00:38:07
know, I don't want to say dumb, but a child that's not overly
00:38:11
bright or overly intelligent or overly, you know, that sort of
00:38:16
child, right? So you would think that with
00:38:21
Claire losing her mother so early, she's probably holding on
00:38:27
and maybe even sub unconsciously, she's holding on
00:38:31
to what she remembers of her mother because she doesn't
00:38:34
remember much. Even, you know, in the the main
00:38:37
series, she does say that she doesn't remember her mother at
00:38:39
all because at some point you're so young, those memories start
00:38:43
to fade, you know, But if Julia was the one that was raising
00:38:49
Claire, she was teaching her to be a strong independent woman.
00:38:53
Like she was teaching her to be smart teaching, you know, Julia,
00:38:57
we see in the beginning of this episode, she wants to go back to
00:39:00
university. She wants to become of the one
00:39:03
of the first women to earn a degree.
00:39:06
So she has those kind of goals and those, you know,
00:39:09
inspirations for herself. Why would you think that her
00:39:12
daughter wouldn't have the same, especially if she's trying to
00:39:15
hold on so much to this mother she doesn't remember.
00:39:17
She's gonna emulate everything that she can remember about her
00:39:20
mother, maybe. Not only that, but she didn't
00:39:23
grow up with her as a teenager where where we would usually
00:39:28
rebel to be different than our moms.
00:39:30
She didn't have that. So it's not like she just was
00:39:34
gonna, I'm gonna be the opposite of what I think my mother was or
00:39:37
I'm gonna be the same as my mom like she.
00:39:40
But The thing is that's the whole thing with the nature
00:39:42
versus nurture as well, because personality traits and different
00:39:45
things that stuff, even though yes, kids can the world
00:39:49
stimuliize things to change people, but DNADNA, you going to
00:39:55
have your parents traits in you whether they raise you or not.
00:39:58
There are so many kids who later found out after they were
00:40:02
adopted that there were so much like their real parents because
00:40:05
that's just the nature of things.
00:40:07
And like, that's a real dumb thing to say.
00:40:09
Oh, that made her just like her mom.
00:40:12
Yeah, I mean, why wouldn't she be just like her mom?
00:40:16
Her mom had to be in war. She had to be in war.
00:40:18
Like they grew up in similar circumstances, even though
00:40:21
obviously she didn't have her parents.
00:40:23
But like, look at where her life went.
00:40:25
Like, I don't know. That's to me, that's so silly.
00:40:28
Like, why wouldn't you be right? Like, Brianna, even look at
00:40:31
Brianna. Rihanna was angry at her mom for
00:40:33
a minute. But did she?
00:40:34
She's she's like a Mama. Yeah, she's like a Mama.
00:40:38
Like situations do that you know and.
00:40:40
She has a lot of Jamie in her. And Jamie didn't raise her.
00:40:43
She didn't leave Jamie until she was almost 30.
00:40:47
Yeah. So, yeah.
00:40:48
But even with Claire, like what you just said about usually when
00:40:52
we're teenagers is when we kind of get into it with our parents
00:40:55
or start trying to rebel. But again, for Claire is it's
00:41:00
kind of like she would have because she didn't grow up with
00:41:06
Julia. She would have no reason to even
00:41:08
think about rebellion. Because one, you don't, you
00:41:11
don't know that your mom was inexplicably pulled away from
00:41:15
you, right? She died as far as you know.
00:41:18
I don't know if she remembers going to a funeral.
00:41:20
I don't remember if they had a funeral.
00:41:21
I mean, obviously there were no bodies recovered, so why would
00:41:26
she even have that kind of thought about her mother?
00:41:28
Like, oh, I don't want to be like her.
00:41:29
Whatever knows that. If anything, she probably put
00:41:32
her mother on a pedestal for as long as she could because that's
00:41:36
probably what she, I mean, she's five years old.
00:41:38
All 5 year olds love their mother, you know?
00:41:42
So yeah, I just, I read that and I was really bothered by that
00:41:46
because I was like, that makes no sense at all.
00:41:51
Yeah, but I mean, I, I, I kind of feel like just what we've
00:41:56
seen of Julia so far, Claire does get a lot of her traits
00:41:59
from her, you know, some of her mannerisms and the the way that
00:42:05
they play, they're playing these characters.
00:42:07
Like, I know that Hermione Corfield, who plays Julia, she
00:42:13
was a fan of the Outlanders show before, you know, this prequel
00:42:18
came out before she got Castle. She was a fan, so once she found
00:42:23
out who she was playing, I think she went back and rewatched and
00:42:26
kind of studied the way that Claire did things because again,
00:42:30
you're you're portraying her mother.
00:42:32
There are going to be some similarities even with like
00:42:37
Jamie and Brian, you know? But yeah, I just this whole
00:42:45
situation that they find themselves in, it's just it's
00:42:51
unfortunate because like Michelle said, as far as we
00:42:54
know, they never make it back to Claire.
00:42:56
You know, and even if they do make it back to their regular
00:43:00
time, depending on when they did, Claire could have already
00:43:05
been gone or even if Claire was still there once Uncle Lemon
00:43:10
again, we don't even know what happened to Uncle Lamb.
00:43:12
We don't know if he died or we don't know if Claire just lost
00:43:15
touch with him once she, you know, once she met Frank and got
00:43:21
married. We, we don't know what's going
00:43:23
on with Uncle Lamb, if he died, if they lost touch or if it was
00:43:28
just, you know, OK, she's grown, she's married now.
00:43:31
We're just not as close. Even if they went back, there's
00:43:35
no, there's no guarantee that they would have found Claire,
00:43:38
you know, So it's, it is sad in that sense, but it's, I don't
00:43:46
know. It makes me wonder because of
00:43:47
again, Julia's pregnant. We know that she's pregnant.
00:43:52
So what's going to happen? Is she not going to go back
00:43:54
because she doesn't know if she can go back through the stones,
00:43:57
Do she? Does she even realize at this
00:43:58
point that the stones are what transported her in the first
00:44:05
place? They wouldn't know that.
00:44:07
I mean, they should, but you don't.
00:44:10
You wouldn't know. You wouldn't come to that
00:44:12
conclusion. You heard the humming they gave
00:44:15
us, but you didn't know, like the last thing knows, I touched
00:44:20
these stones. Well, I guess you would, because
00:44:23
you like the last thing I did. Was I touched?
00:44:25
I heard humming. I touched stones.
00:44:29
I was looking for her. She wasn't there and my heart
00:44:33
was oh, and I touched the stone and next thing you know, here I
00:44:36
am. But we heard the humming with
00:44:38
him, too. Yeah, so once they come
00:44:40
together, then they probably could have some, like, how did
00:44:42
we get here? And like, what was the last
00:44:44
thing you remember flipping over in the car?
00:44:47
But the word was still the same. Oh, those stones.
00:44:51
Did you hear the humming? I heard the humming.
00:44:53
Yeah. But when they touch it and they
00:44:55
don't go nowhere, it's figuring out that you need some jewelry
00:44:59
or you need to murder someone. And you and you need the
00:45:02
solstice because remember the the stones are only active
00:45:06
during certain times. Oh, see, I forgot about that
00:45:08
part. Yeah.
00:45:10
I was gonna say maybe, maybe Henry was able to go through
00:45:14
'cause he killed a lot of people.
00:45:16
He shared a lot of blood. That that is true.
00:45:19
The blood to to get to. The stone Like Gaylis literally
00:45:24
burned her husband at the foot of the stone.
00:45:26
Well, maybe she didn't get that. You just had to have have
00:45:30
murdered and killed someone in your life, not right on top of
00:45:34
the stone. No, I think it, I think she
00:45:36
specifically said blood sacrifice.
00:45:38
I know, but you know, I think she likes sacrifices, so you
00:45:41
know. OK.
00:45:44
She does. So I don't know.
00:45:47
Reliable, not narrator? I'm not quite sure.
00:45:52
This is true, but again, we don't know even even even Claire
00:45:57
and and Brianna and and Roger. Like, remember, Brianna and
00:46:03
Roger are actually writing some of this down for the kids and
00:46:08
they're like, we still don't know all the ways that this
00:46:11
thing can work. There could be there could be
00:46:13
ways to go through the stones that we have no clue about.
00:46:17
And you just really, it's a magical thing.
00:46:20
You really just don't know. Right, because what if you have
00:46:24
stones and, and the and they, you know, a gym and they say,
00:46:28
no, we don't want you to travel. Well, you know, they say a lot
00:46:33
of people, well, you wouldn't know because you don't read the
00:46:35
books. But in the books, one of the
00:46:37
things that they talk about is the fact that when you go to
00:46:42
through the stones, all of them describe hearing other people
00:46:47
and they don't they, they assume that it's other travellers, but
00:46:51
also they assume that it's travellers who may have gotten
00:46:55
stuck. Like if, if you, if you were
00:46:59
there during the right time of the year and you touched the
00:47:03
stones, but you didn't have a gem, maybe you can't go all the
00:47:07
way through. Like nobody knows what happens
00:47:09
while you're traveling through the stones.
00:47:11
Like you're, I think this is something that Brianna and
00:47:15
Rodger were talking about. Like, does your body actually
00:47:17
disintegrate and then reform or, you know, how exactly is this?
00:47:22
And that's one of the things that I would like to find out.
00:47:25
But like, exactly how exactly do you do that research?
00:47:29
You know, even if you figured out how to do the time travel,
00:47:32
which obviously Claire, Brianna, Rodger, they figured it out.
00:47:35
Claire has made several jumps through Brianna and Rodger.
00:47:39
And came the time she wanted and got where she wanted to go and
00:47:42
the time she wanted to go. So.
00:47:45
Oh, that's the other thing. They know they they know you
00:47:47
have to have some kind of anchor, something pulling right
00:47:49
to a specific time, which in this instance, it makes sense
00:47:54
for Henry right to follow Julia all the way through because
00:47:58
right you were just with her. She all, she disappears.
00:48:01
You're fancy. That's where you're thinking.
00:48:04
And he's, he's really connected to us.
00:48:06
And that's why they showed us everything in the beginning.
00:48:08
Like he's really, that is his anchor.
00:48:11
That is pretty much what's keeping him alive.
00:48:15
Yeah, you know, and she disappeared.
00:48:17
It's like, oh, well, I need to go find her.
00:48:19
That's that's what does he say? He calls her his hope.
00:48:23
He was like, oh, OK, she can't go anywhere.
00:48:25
And then I'm just like, what am I supposed to do?
00:48:28
Because obviously she didn't fall off the hill because I'm
00:48:31
pretty sure he probably looked. And then of course, the buzzing,
00:48:35
the pull of the stones got to him because it it's almost like
00:48:40
one of those things, if you're not aware of what you're doing,
00:48:43
if you're not aware that the stones are what they are, is it
00:48:48
a pool that you can't ignore? Kind of like Claire said, it was
00:48:52
for the the first time that she did it.
00:48:55
She was like, you know, it's just kind of like you're
00:48:57
inexplicably drawn to it. So I'm just kind of wondering,
00:49:01
again, we don't know all the ways that the stones work, but
00:49:06
that would be something interesting to explore.
00:49:11
Like how did how did how did this happen?
00:49:13
How did we get here? And again, like you said,
00:49:15
Michelle, how did Henry get through without the stone?
00:49:18
Was his was his bond to Julia just that great?
00:49:23
He was able to go through without any kind of consequence
00:49:27
or any kind of damage because I mean, even well, I was going to
00:49:30
say even Buck seemed like he had some heart issues towards the
00:49:35
end of the season. But again, he went through twice
00:49:40
and fairly close time frames. So his body body probably hadn't
00:49:47
had chance to recover from the first time he went through
00:49:51
because again, this was another one he went through.
00:49:55
I forgot. What did he say they were?
00:49:57
He was chasing a dog and he heard the buzzing and he got
00:50:00
pulled through. And then of course, he went back
00:50:03
through with Roger to check to go after Jimmy.
00:50:06
That was maybe only a few weeks. So yeah, I, I don't know, but
00:50:15
they got some problems on their hands, Julia, especially because
00:50:22
it seems like she may have looks like she may have an ally in
00:50:29
Brian. But again, there's not too much
00:50:32
Brian's going to be able to do. I mean, he's already kind of
00:50:34
like the outcast of of the house, so he can probably try to
00:50:38
keep her safe. Miss Porter can try to keep her
00:50:41
safe. But again, Miss Porter, I hate
00:50:44
to say it, she was a victim in the household as well.
00:50:47
So how safe exactly is she going to be able to?
00:50:50
Keep you? Not much.
00:50:53
It's not like she's one. She's not young.
00:50:57
Yeah, she's not a fighter, obviously.
00:51:02
And I think even though I think we all said something about the
00:51:06
way that Lord Lovett kind of behaves around her, like he acts
00:51:10
as regular asshole. So when she kind of fixes him
00:51:13
with that eye, he kind of stays back and leaves her.
00:51:18
Oh, you know what I just thought about that just popped in my
00:51:21
head. OK, so going back to the episode
00:51:27
in the main show, when we meet Lord Lovett, remember he had the
00:51:31
the wise woman with him that he was, you know, that was giving
00:51:35
him all of the prophecies and everything.
00:51:39
I wonder if he thought Miss Porter was one of those or if
00:51:43
she had someone nearby that she was like if you don't behave,
00:51:45
I'm a Hick show ass. And that's why he looks at her
00:51:48
like that would be funny because you saw how he was in that
00:51:55
episode when he was older, when that that Lady was given
00:51:58
prophecies. And then even when Claire came
00:52:00
back and gave the prophecy, he was like, oh shit, no, no.
00:52:03
No, they wrestle with. Them.
00:52:05
Yeah, I messed with them. I wonder maybe you might be a
00:52:09
little more interesting than I thought.
00:52:12
Also by Miss Porter, the thing that has been bugging me is so
00:52:17
she's not old, but like she's an older lady than Julia, but like
00:52:21
she not old. So that means she was a youngin,
00:52:24
a real young Oh. I wouldn't doubt it got her.
00:52:27
Pregnant with brain and that just.
00:52:29
Oh my goodness. Probably a teenager, probably a
00:52:33
teenager because again, 1700s, that's kind of what they did.
00:52:37
Yeah. Oh my gosh, just thinking about
00:52:39
that. And then.
00:52:40
Oh. Yeah, so.
00:52:44
But you know, again, she's not going to be able to protect
00:52:47
Julia much. Yeah.
00:52:49
Because because even if Lord Lovett doesn't do anything to
00:52:55
her, that fucking bodyguard of his I would not want to be
00:52:58
anywhere along with that dude. I know he's so scary.
00:53:02
He is so scary. For someone who does not say
00:53:05
anything, he is scary. And he's always there and
00:53:09
standing in just. Watching Yeah.
00:53:14
If I was Julia, I would be like, I understand you're headstrong.
00:53:19
I understand that you are in a situation you should not be in,
00:53:22
but baby, read the room. What we say all the time.
00:53:26
Read the room. You are not in a safe space.
00:53:29
I'm going to need you to kind of close your mouth and just kind
00:53:32
of pay attention to what's going on.
00:53:35
One thing about this show, we don't know what the timeline is,
00:53:37
so we don't know how long they've been there yet, but it
00:53:43
it's just like I need I need you to pay attention cuz this man
00:53:49
there is there is no, there is no late night.
00:53:52
I'm a sneak out of the castle mess like Clint.
00:53:54
Don't please don't try to do what your daughter did because
00:53:57
it didn't work it out in Claire's favor either.
00:53:59
Claire tried to escape and Jamie called her here.
00:54:02
Dougal called it. Just stay because Claire was
00:54:06
nowhere near in in the kind of danger that you were in.
00:54:10
Very much so. And Claire, I guess what you she
00:54:13
was definitely a fighter too. So they got her and then was
00:54:17
like, you gonna marry this young boy?
00:54:19
That's like, it's in some ways she was kind of like owned or
00:54:23
enslaved too, because they were just like, oh, you're pretty
00:54:26
last. You gonna marry this boy?
00:54:27
That's. Well.
00:54:28
No, because the thing with Claire, as far as marrying
00:54:31
Jamie, they were trying to keep her safe from Blackjack Randall.
00:54:35
And the only way that they could do that was like Dual said, they
00:54:38
had to quote, UN quote, make her Scottish.
00:54:40
Yeah. The only way for them to do that
00:54:42
was through marriage. Yeah, yeah, I forgot about that.
00:54:45
It's been years. I just so much.
00:54:48
Yeah, we just got lucky. It was Jamie, yeah.
00:54:52
Right. Right.
00:54:53
Come on now. The universe is working in our
00:54:55
favor, baby. Right.
00:54:58
But going back to what you said, Dana, it does apply.
00:55:01
Like the whole thing where Claire was supposed to leave
00:55:04
with the tinker and Colin was like, yeah, so David Beaton is
00:55:09
dead. I'm gonna need you to stay here
00:55:11
and and be our heel. And she was like, I'm about to
00:55:14
leave. No, you're not.
00:55:16
So at that point, yes, she does become a prisoner in a sense,
00:55:21
but he even tells her he was like, look, as long as you do
00:55:24
what I asked you to do, you're not a prisoner.
00:55:26
You're here as a guest. Missing words.
00:55:30
Yes I understand because when I say column in this series I
00:55:33
don't know if y'all have seen the third episode yet.
00:55:36
Yes, yes, I have. I have not, but it started.
00:55:42
Yeah. Yeah, he got a mouse, so he's a
00:55:45
smart one. He's a smart one and he knows
00:55:47
how to manipulate things to where it's like, OK, yeah, I'm
00:55:50
doing this, but I'm kind of not doing this or I'm I'm making you
00:55:54
think I'm not doing this, but this is what I'm doing.
00:55:57
So but, but even with that, his whole thing was OK.
00:56:02
Whether you here's my guests or, or here as my prisoner.
00:56:06
He did give her the protection of the castle.
00:56:08
You know, he does protect her. He does offer her some safety,
00:56:13
which is more than I can say for what Julia has right now, at
00:56:16
least. Claire, they were kind of like,
00:56:18
OK, we're suspicious of you because something about you
00:56:21
don't seem right and you could be a spy.
00:56:24
But we will protect you. We will give you, you know, a
00:56:28
little bit of freedom to move about.
00:56:30
Like, yeah, she had Angus and Rupert that were kind of, you
00:56:34
know, watching her, but that was just to make sure she didn't go
00:56:36
anywhere. But they didn't.
00:56:37
Like she wasn't a prisoner in that sense.
00:56:41
She had some freedom. She still was able to do what
00:56:44
she needed to do, so her situation was less precarious
00:56:48
than Julius is in comparison. Of course, we're looking at
00:56:52
Outlander for the first time. We're like, yeah, girl, you a
00:56:54
prisoner. But if you're comparing them
00:56:58
both now, Claire, you actually kind.
00:57:00
Of it's different. You had a kind of easy compared
00:57:02
to what your Mama is about to go through.
00:57:04
Yeah. Yeah.
00:57:05
So. And your Mama is like a whole
00:57:07
like servant, servant, like she is doing like hard labor, right?
00:57:15
So, and to a man who is not married, at least what column?
00:57:19
Column had Leticia Leticia look like the type that be like,
00:57:22
bitch, please, you better not touch her.
00:57:25
What did Jamie say? Yeah, Leticia doesn't cross
00:57:28
column in public, but she has been known to throw a piece of
00:57:31
Crocker. So, yeah, I I need Julia to kind
00:57:37
of. I mean, they had to just watch,
00:57:42
just observe. Yeah.
00:57:44
How to figure out the best course of action and also listen
00:57:48
out because obviously if the Connors came through the way
00:57:52
that they did, there might be other people coming through.
00:57:55
Henry could still show up, especially if he's looking for
00:57:59
her, if he's asking questions about her.
00:58:01
Now, the the bad thing about her is she was alone when she was
00:58:05
taken. Nobody else was on on that hill.
00:58:09
But I mean, stranger things have happened, especially when it
00:58:13
comes to this show and these characters.
00:58:16
So they could find they could find each other.
00:58:18
I hope for their sakes they do, but I also don't it's it's kind
00:58:22
of like if they find each other in this season, then what are we
00:58:25
looking at for next season? Because we know they've been
00:58:28
renewed for Season 2. They've already started
00:58:32
production. So it's kind of like, where will
00:58:35
the story take us? And that's a good thing about
00:58:38
the show because this is all new territory.
00:58:41
Like Diana Gabaldon said she had no plans to write any stories
00:58:45
about Claire's parents, but she is working on a prequel with
00:58:51
Jamie's parents. This was something she mentioned
00:58:53
a couple of years ago. And now that Blood of My Blood
00:58:56
has started airing, she's actually started putting some of
00:58:58
the excerpts from that prequel on her Facebook page and her
00:59:02
website. So it's interesting to kind of
00:59:06
see the different directions that the characters go.
00:59:08
But like, again, Claire's parents is is literally a blank
00:59:14
page. You have no idea what's going to
00:59:17
happen with those characters. We have no idea how this
00:59:20
pregnancy is about to figure in. Because like we talked about in
00:59:23
the last episode, is it going to have something to do with the
00:59:26
whole faith mystery with Fanny and Jane towards the end of the
00:59:30
season? Like are we going to find out
00:59:32
that those are are Claire's relatives?
00:59:35
Did they ever go back? And there's just so many
00:59:38
questions that they can answer with with these characters, but
00:59:41
I need Julia to stay alive long enough for that to happen,
00:59:44
right? So just come on now.
00:59:48
Yeah, but I, I will say 2 episodes in, I, I still feel the
00:59:57
excitement, like the story is so good.
01:00:01
They are doing such a great job with the story, with the
01:00:04
characters. The emotions like you say in
01:00:07
this episode, because I was in my feelings when Henry went out
01:00:13
to try to save his to save his soldier, even against orders.
01:00:18
I was like they bout to shoot this man on yeah, that was for
01:00:23
not doing what he was supposed to do.
01:00:24
But even the the the scene with the soldier dying, his whole,
01:00:32
his whole letter writing campaign, just the back and
01:00:35
forth, the voice overs, listening to the letters, you
01:00:37
know, him being kind of, you know, in despair and Julia being
01:00:42
hopeful and being romantic and being poetic.
01:00:44
I was just like, y'all are going to make me fall in love with
01:00:47
these characters, which is going to be sad because I already
01:00:50
know, like Michelle said, as far as we know, clearance parents
01:00:54
didn't make it or we don't know what happened to them.
01:00:57
Yeah. We don't.
01:00:59
OK, so books will be the adventures of their life.
01:01:04
I mean we know so far that they don't.
01:01:10
Like she has not encountered her parents.
01:01:14
No, as far as we know, 'cause even if she encountered them,
01:01:17
let's say in the past when she came to Inverness, I mean, she's
01:01:23
a grown woman at this point, which means her parents would
01:01:26
have been a little bit older as well.
01:01:29
Would she have even recognized them?
01:01:31
Would they have recognized her? The last time they saw her was
01:01:33
she was 5. But she does look an awful.
01:01:36
Lot like her. Mother like her mom.
01:01:37
And then they will travel back and know they will look for her.
01:01:40
You see what I'm saying? So yeah, they don't.
01:01:44
Doesn't mean they die. It's just that we just don't.
01:01:46
We don't know where they end up, right?
01:01:50
What the good thing is that it's possible that they're they are
01:01:53
alive somewhere because Archbug was still alive and and even
01:01:58
Lord Lovett was still alive and when she went back, yeah, the
01:02:02
time. So they could possibly be
01:02:05
somewhere in that time. Now by the time she's the the 20
01:02:07
years later and she didn't come back and her and Jamie got like
01:02:10
they probably did by then. Maybe, I don't know, maybe not
01:02:13
because Archbugs still alive. Yeah, he's still alive and too,
01:02:15
right. Yeah.
01:02:16
But then they're they could be at a different time, so then
01:02:20
it's hard. Yeah, and if they.
01:02:24
Could have ended up in the 70s. Yeah, I was going to say, if
01:02:27
they ended up going through the stones again, they could have.
01:02:30
They could have either gone. They could have gone.
01:02:35
I'm trying to think of how I'm supposed to.
01:02:36
They could have gone back further ahead.
01:02:41
Like they could have gone back and ended up past the 1920s.
01:02:45
They could have gone, ended up in the 1940s, nineteen 60s, but
01:02:50
they will still be the same age. Like they wouldn't necessarily
01:02:52
age to where they should be age. So again, all kinds of
01:02:57
possibilities, you know, or if they stayed in the 1900s, then
01:03:01
yeah, they will be a little bit older.
01:03:04
And then if Claire comes through, like Claire went to
01:03:06
Scotland, Claire went to France, they could have done any of
01:03:09
those things. She could have run into her
01:03:11
parents anywhere, you know, Look, that could be a reason
01:03:15
why. Oh, I can't say that because
01:03:17
Dina ain't seen the end of the. Season.
01:03:20
I'm done. I'm done.
01:03:21
Yeah, I I finished it. Yeah, I finished OK.
01:03:23
I was like I need to get done with this.
01:03:25
That could be the reason, you know, maybe Master Raymond know
01:03:29
something about her parents and that's why.
01:03:31
That's one thing. I'm sorry.
01:03:32
Yeah, I think, yeah. Which cuz that was so crazy too,
01:03:36
because like, oh, your mom's name is Faith.
01:03:39
I had a daughter named Faith, but I didn't know I had a sister
01:03:41
named Faith. So there's all this stuff and
01:03:43
it's. Right, right.
01:03:44
All this stuff. Yeah.
01:03:46
That's why I was like, you got to finish watching that season
01:03:49
because it's crazy. It's it's crazy.
01:03:53
But again, with the time travel thing, there's so many
01:03:57
possibilities that we can go into with with what happened to
01:04:01
Claire's parents. And again, it's a it's an open
01:04:03
book because Diana Gabadon has not written anything about
01:04:07
Claire's parents. So we can really just like, I
01:04:12
don't know. But again, I'm a need Julia to
01:04:15
not, I need her to sit her ass down and not be trying to
01:04:21
escape, you know, and, and I, I love Brian for trying to let
01:04:27
her, you know, because he was really trying to convince her to
01:04:30
stay. And she's like, look, I got to
01:04:32
go. We know Brian has a little bit
01:04:34
of a soft heart. So he was like, OK, you know
01:04:37
what, man? But that damn bodyguard.
01:04:41
Poor Brian, he just catches. Hell, I know, I know.
01:04:47
And then that's that, that he catches hell.
01:04:49
And then Jamie's that same kind of man.
01:04:52
Yeah, who also catches hell for trying to be the right, do the
01:04:56
right thing, you know? But I wonder, did they say
01:05:01
anything about that in that write up?
01:05:03
Did they say Jamie's too much like his dad?
01:05:05
Like you? Know no, but you know what?
01:05:08
But it it almost would make sense because I mean, Jamie was
01:05:14
what, 19 when Brian died maybe. Yeah.
01:05:19
Because remember, Brian died after he got flogged by Jack
01:05:23
Randall. He he was there watching and had
01:05:25
the the stroke because we're seeing Jamie get beat.
01:05:30
So, yeah, I think I think that's one of the reasons why Jamie, I
01:05:37
will say, took to Claire as much as he did because even Jamie,
01:05:42
Jamie was young when Ellen died. But I think he would have enough
01:05:47
memory of his mother to know what type of woman she was.
01:05:50
And then if you think about it, Jenny is also hit strong woman,
01:05:57
you know, she doesn't cower back.
01:05:59
So she obviously also got that from her mother.
01:06:02
But also Jamie would have had that.
01:06:05
He would have had that example of Brian and Ellen, you know,
01:06:09
because he would have actually seen his parents be together, be
01:06:13
in love. And then after Ellen died, you
01:06:15
know, Brian never remarried. He like, carried that torch for
01:06:18
her forever, which is so fucking tragic.
01:06:22
But at the same time, it's so incredibly romantic that someone
01:06:26
touched your soul that much that you just can't let go to be with
01:06:30
someone else. But you know, and it's in
01:06:33
another sense, it's sad as well, because to know that you are a
01:06:37
person that is capable of that kind of great love and nobody
01:06:40
else will ever get to experience that, that's sad.
01:06:44
But OK. So I have it on in the
01:06:46
background. Yes, we do find out in this
01:06:48
episode that Miss Porter is Brian's mother because he took
01:06:53
the beating for he took the beating for Julia or Julia after
01:06:58
she got caught trying to escape. And I was just like, you know
01:07:01
what? I don't know if I can watch
01:07:02
another Fraser man get get whipped, but luckily it wasn't
01:07:06
as bad as Jamie's. Cuz when I say first season
01:07:10
Outlander as far as some of the most brutally graphic stuff that
01:07:16
you see on TV, this show took the cake between those first,
01:07:22
first season. Yeah, anything that happened in
01:07:27
in in the in the prison, it was just like, no, I like when when
01:07:32
Brianna went back and she walked through and she was like, I
01:07:35
don't like the feel of this place.
01:07:36
Yes, Boo Boo. I understand why your daddy got
01:07:39
beat right there. Your grandfather died probably
01:07:41
in the spot that you felt that just.
01:07:44
Yeah, no, brutally. That's true.
01:07:48
Yeah, when she and Rodger went to a Port William, she was like,
01:07:55
yeah, something about this place, you know?
01:07:58
Yeah, your your family has a lot of history there.
01:08:03
Yeah. Yeah.
01:08:05
So the episode ends, we end up going back to Castle Lyac with
01:08:15
the Mackenzie's and Healing and Mad seem like they're about to
01:08:21
have a nice little friendship. Even though the Grants and the
01:08:27
Mackenzie's obviously they they don't have good relations,
01:08:32
especially at the Dougal beat Malcolm Grant almost to a pulp
01:08:36
in last episode. But again, going back to this
01:08:40
whole thing about yeah, so this is how we want to recompense
01:08:45
you. We're going to give you Ellen
01:08:46
Mackenzie to Mary Malcolm Grant. This whole thing about just
01:08:51
giving people to other people. It's just say it, it is.
01:08:57
It is. It's infuriating.
01:09:00
And and the fact that Harlem, again, Harlem is one of those
01:09:05
people, you know, he's smart, you know, he's making the
01:09:10
decisions the best he can for the clan.
01:09:12
That's one thing about column I don't think anybody can ever say
01:09:16
he was selfish at any time because he's always been about
01:09:21
what's better for the clan. But this is the system that you
01:09:27
apparently had a good relationship with because I've
01:09:30
heard with you more than anybody.
01:09:33
And. And for the others in this
01:09:34
series except for Jacosta and Jacosta, it's obvious that
01:09:38
Jacosta is jealous of her. But for you to be like, oh, OK,
01:09:44
yeah. So we're gonna we're gonna solve
01:09:45
this. I'm gonna give my sister to your
01:09:49
person so they can get married and we can be good.
01:09:52
You know what? OK, so that means I'm have to
01:09:58
hate a young column too, but OK, whatever.
01:10:01
It is what it is. Yeah, you don't have to 'cause
01:10:03
I, I'm not feeling him right now.
01:10:05
He's frustrating because it's like, this is your sister.
01:10:09
Who who's been the closest to you this whole time?
01:10:13
She's your older sister. She's clearly your dad's
01:10:16
favorite, which the boys probably did feel some kind of
01:10:18
animosity towards her because of that, but so did the girls.
01:10:21
It was quite well suffered. Jenny.
01:10:22
Jenny. That seemed pretty cool, but you
01:10:23
could tell Jacosta didn't care for it.
01:10:25
But like Jacosta, I want. The baby too.
01:10:28
So and you know, I think Jacosta is a little bit different
01:10:31
because if you remember about Jacosta's story, Jacosta was
01:10:35
married young and the first Cameron that she was married to
01:10:39
was an older man, like probably old enough to be her grandfire.
01:10:45
So if that's the one she's married to at this point, yeah,
01:10:48
I would kind of be upset too. Like I'm the youngest, but I've
01:10:51
already been married to an older guy.
01:10:54
You're the oldest. You should have been married
01:10:55
1st. And yeah, you've been given kind
01:10:58
of the the freedom to say, yeah, but I mean, you've been given
01:11:04
the freedom to say, yes, I want to get married.
01:11:06
No, I don't want to get married. So yeah, I can kind of
01:11:08
understand Jacosta's saltiness about it.
01:11:12
But even in the the main show, when she first sees Jamie, she
01:11:17
does talk about how much she misses Ellen.
01:11:19
So maybe at some point they reconcile.
01:11:22
But in this part, yeah, she's very much a jealous baby sister.
01:11:27
But, you know, going back to column, I don't like what he's
01:11:32
doing with her. But I will also say this, I have
01:11:37
a feeling that for Ellen Holland is probably the lesser of the
01:11:43
two evils in regards to the brothers.
01:11:46
Oh yeah, for sure, for sure. I mean, cause Dougal just
01:11:50
clearly went out there and just start taking kicking butt and
01:11:54
taking names without asking questions.
01:11:56
You didn't even check that. You didn't.
01:11:57
Even check the carriage first. Yeah, you got eyes, Sir.
01:12:01
You can't see no red hair. Nowhere.
01:12:03
Near like, what are you doing right and.
01:12:05
And you remember one of those carriages?
01:12:07
I don't. I'm trying to think it wasn't
01:12:09
even a carriage that you put somebody in.
01:12:12
No, it was like a wagon. Type thing yeah right you could
01:12:16
have been good the cloth and saw that there was nobody nobody in
01:12:20
there right right but you know what so we're.
01:12:27
Just like, you know, I think she also, you know, but she
01:12:32
probably, she feels closer to Colin because he is, you know,
01:12:37
he's a thinker and she's a thinker.
01:12:39
She was taught to also be a thinker.
01:12:41
And so sometimes, you know, you're gonna always, probably a
01:12:45
lot of times you're closer to the ones you have most in common
01:12:48
with. I mean, obviously opposites
01:12:49
attracting friendships and stuff like that.
01:12:51
But I feel like because they grew up similarly, because it's
01:12:55
clear the dad was probably grooming him to be the one until
01:12:58
he hurt himself, you know, I mean, probably was the one, you
01:13:02
know, yeah, until he got hurt and stuff.
01:13:05
So I don't know, like I'm just angry that he immediately was
01:13:09
like, my dad's word is dead. He dead.
01:13:12
Everybody he dead, I mean. Sell my sister off.
01:13:14
I'm like OK. Right, like you are such a just
01:13:22
whatever. Hold on, let me see.
01:13:24
I'm trying to see what the birth order is.
01:13:29
OK, so their birth order, Ellen is the oldest column was next,
01:13:34
then Dougal, then Janet. They had an apparently another
01:13:40
sister in here, a Florie who who probably died and then Jacosta.
01:13:49
So yeah, wow, that's, that was a lot, yeah.
01:13:54
Yeah, so, so, yeah, it it would make sense now that Ellen and
01:13:59
Colin were closest because they were the first two children.
01:14:02
They probably had time to bond before Dougal got there and
01:14:06
started wreaking havoc 'cause you can tell Dougal as a child
01:14:10
was probably every bit of hell in as he is as an adult or not
01:14:15
even adult. He's a teenager in this in this
01:14:17
series. He's a, you know, older
01:14:20
teenager. So yeah, you know, that was
01:14:22
probably chaotic, but. I keep forgetting they're
01:14:25
supposed to be children 'cause I am straight less enough to this
01:14:27
man. I gotta get my mind together
01:14:30
girl 'cause I keep forgetting they're supposed to be young
01:14:32
even though it obviously they're grown people in real life but
01:14:35
like the character. I'm I know, I know is is I know
01:14:40
it's so hard, especially with that one 'cause he just I don't
01:14:45
know something about his and, and I will say this.
01:14:48
No, it's not just his version 'cause even Gram mctattered
01:14:52
version of Dougal, like it was a bit more weathered and it was a
01:14:57
bit more I said look a tiny bit more calm than the person of
01:15:04
him, But there's something about I I don't know, they just I
01:15:11
don't know. They just exude like alpha male
01:15:15
whatever and like. Sexy, yeah.
01:15:18
It is. The thing I don't want but I
01:15:20
also can't resist. Right.
01:15:22
It's kind of like the whole attraction we have with bad
01:15:25
boys. Like, no, I Damon Salvatore, no,
01:15:29
you are a murderer. You are this guy and the other.
01:15:31
You compel people to sleep with you and blah, blah, blah.
01:15:35
But there's something that people are drawn, you know, to
01:15:38
it about. Same thing with this Doogle.
01:15:40
Doogle is like, Oh my God, you are so fucking toxic, but Oh my
01:15:45
God, you could get it. Like, yeah, yeah.
01:15:51
And I'm just you know what? Even though he's supposed to be
01:15:53
the younger version of this one, like you said, he's a grown man
01:15:58
and he looks like a grown man. So yeah, there.
01:16:02
There's that struggle, but I mean, it's Dougal.
01:16:09
I just, I don't have any other explanation.
01:16:12
It's just, you know, one of the characters that you didn't think
01:16:16
you were going to come out first thing after after in the show.
01:16:20
It's like, yeah, old Dougal, young Dougal, middle Dougal, he
01:16:25
can get it. I just whatever.
01:16:28
I think we're all in agreement on that.
01:16:31
Yeah, I mean, that's, I mean, it's just true.
01:16:34
I don't know. Like I thought I was really, I
01:16:37
was just so mad at him and just how he was so forceful and bossy
01:16:40
and just like even for Jamie, he was just really bossy over Jamie
01:16:43
and just the way he was. But yeah.
01:16:46
Oh, no. He had a thing.
01:16:48
Graham got it. Graham got a thing.
01:16:50
And then now this young and honey.
01:16:55
Yeah. Yeah.
01:16:57
But the episode ends, of course, we have more voice overs from
01:17:02
Julia and Henry as they are separated.
01:17:06
They have started writing letters to each other again.
01:17:08
Now, I don't know if they would ever get a chance to read these
01:17:10
letters, but they're going to make us cry just talking about
01:17:14
them as they try to figure out what to do in their life next
01:17:17
and how they're going to find their way back to each other.
01:17:20
I'm just like, you know what? And just, and I like, no, no.
01:17:30
But I mean, it's, I don't know, it's hard.
01:17:33
It's hard to imagine them 'cause even once they get they find
01:17:37
each other, he's gonna have to steal her back, 'cause I don't
01:17:42
feel like Laura Levitz gonna give her up, right?
01:17:45
Even though he says this is my wife.
01:17:49
Right this is literally my wife y'all stole but I feel like
01:17:53
they're not gonna just. Right.
01:17:56
I'm scared, I'm scared is all I'm saying.
01:17:58
And then I've seen this last episode and something that I
01:18:01
thought was going to have me happen and I said, oh, OK, so.
01:18:05
Yeah. What?
01:18:06
What? I'm just hurry up, Michelle.
01:18:09
We got things to talk about. We got things to talk about.
01:18:12
Yep. But who?
01:18:15
OK, so. Yeah, 'cause the next episode
01:18:18
starts with a bang. That whole episode is bang.
01:18:24
I was like wait. That whole episode is bang.
01:18:27
Yeah, yeah. It starts out and I was just
01:18:29
like, oh, we're there. Yeah, we'll, we'll, we'll.
01:18:34
We'll talk about that because I had some, I had some words.
01:18:37
I was cussing some folks out at the beginning of the next.
01:18:44
So so we'll talk about it. Let's see you ladies have any
01:18:47
final thoughts about this episode?
01:18:49
Trying to think is there anything else that we can talk
01:18:53
about but I feel like. Again, enjoying it.
01:18:57
The writing is great. Yeah.
01:19:01
I don't know. I did.
01:19:02
I really. I really love this this love
01:19:04
story right here. Yeah, definitely.
01:19:10
Yeah, I just. I definitely really love now.
01:19:16
Yeah, you're right. Such a way to stay in the house
01:19:19
curb. I just really love Julian
01:19:25
Henry's portion because it's funny because I thought I I
01:19:29
Frank in in in Claire's story, I was my least favorite part of
01:19:35
Outlander because I was so obsessed with her being with Red
01:19:39
Jamie, right? Like I was.
01:19:40
But in this story, I'm more obsessed.
01:19:43
Julia Henry's story, I don't know.
01:19:46
I didn't think I would like them and like the way I, you know, I
01:19:49
thought I was going to be about Brian and Ellen.
01:19:51
But I thought the same thing. That's why I'm like, I, I love
01:19:53
how they did that. So yeah.
01:19:56
Like I fall in love with them, falling in love and.
01:19:59
I OK. Right.
01:20:02
And then? Those unknown portion because of
01:20:04
the fact that like we know where Brian and Ellen's story end,
01:20:08
like we know that Ellen dies young.
01:20:10
We know that, you know, we know what happens to Brian and then
01:20:13
we get, you know, the tale of their children after that with
01:20:18
Claire's parents, we don't know what to expect.
01:20:21
So it's it's one of those things where it's a familiar story, but
01:20:27
it's also very fresh because we don't know anything about these
01:20:30
characters. We don't we, you know, up until
01:20:32
the last episode, we didn't know anything about their
01:20:34
personalities. We didn't know, like, I mean,
01:20:38
Claire's parents could have very easily just been two people who
01:20:41
were stuck together because a lot of those marriages back
01:20:45
then, it's like they're either arranged marriage or they're
01:20:49
forced. You know, it's not like a lot of
01:20:52
people back then actually got it, got married because they
01:20:55
were in love. So, so finding out that
01:20:59
information, knowing that her parents were very much deeply in
01:21:02
love and you know, they doted on her.
01:21:05
Even, you know, Henry was saying, well, you know, I'm kind
01:21:08
of worried about her learning about this new baby because
01:21:10
she's been our whole world. You know, they have that kind of
01:21:13
devotion to their to their family, to their child.
01:21:18
We know that they're close to his brother because even in the
01:21:20
letters before they met each other, she asked about them.
01:21:23
Have you heard from your brother Lamb?
01:21:25
Has he discovered a new, you know, Egyptian pharaoh?
01:21:28
So they have that close bond of family.
01:21:31
And I think that's another great thing for us to be able to lean
01:21:35
into with their story because again, sometimes when it comes
01:21:39
to these older marriages and relationships from back then,
01:21:44
there is not a lot of love and passion.
01:21:48
I mean, we even see that with the Outlander series with the
01:21:51
other married couples or the other couples that we see that
01:21:54
are not Claire and Jamie or Rodger and Brianna.
01:21:57
There really isn't a lot of passion between those except for
01:22:01
maybe Arch and Medina. Even as an older couple, you
01:22:04
could see the love and devotion that they had with each other.
01:22:07
So I think that's one of the lovely things about following
01:22:11
Claire's parents. We get to literally start from
01:22:13
scratch. And and their love is very
01:22:17
passionate. It is it is it ain't it ain't
01:22:20
Jamie and Claire wedding night passion but.
01:22:24
No, that fucker was intense though.
01:22:26
We. Didn't have that kind of, we
01:22:27
didn't have that kind of time because what that first episode
01:22:30
of, I mean, the first season of Outlander was 13 episodes.
01:22:34
So we don't have that kind of time.
01:22:35
So we just got to go in the show, you know, hey, this is how
01:22:39
we do it. But also they had a chance to
01:22:41
fall in love. Claire and Jamie really didn't.
01:22:43
No, but you can tell the emotions in it.
01:22:46
I'm just saying. At the man shaking yes.
01:22:50
Yeah, but he but he was, he was a virgin, wasn't he?
01:22:54
When he was first with Claire, Right.
01:22:56
Yeah, Jackie was I I think it's a mistake.
01:23:00
Like it might. Have been too, because when they
01:23:03
were taking each other's clothes off camera was like, I don't
01:23:06
know what I'm doing. I didn't think about it like
01:23:09
that. I wasn't.
01:23:11
Paying. I wasn't, yeah, I wasn't paying
01:23:13
attention. Yeah, I did not think about
01:23:16
that. Because if you think about it,
01:23:19
Henry probably got drafted as soon as he turned, what, 17?
01:23:25
I think that's the age that they were drafting people back then.
01:23:28
So he probably didn't have a lot of experience even going into.
01:23:33
That. You know, and then again, early
01:23:36
1900s Julia probably would have been, you know, chased until she
01:23:42
got married. But of course, this is the man
01:23:43
that she's been writing with, falling in love with.
01:23:46
She probably was like, OK, we could die tomorrow.
01:23:49
I'm, I'm gonna get this over with.
01:23:50
I'm gonna do this. It's going down.
01:23:53
Yeah, that came in. There was like, come on, Sir.
01:23:57
And plus, what what did he say? He said are he said something
01:24:01
about are you OK with us doing this even though we're not
01:24:03
married yet? And she was like, yeah, well, as
01:24:06
far as proposals goes is not up there.
01:24:09
But yes, I accept. So probably in her mind she was
01:24:12
like, we going to get married anyway.
01:24:14
Yeah, it's happening right away, Sir.
01:24:17
Right now, Right now. Like yes, letters only can hold
01:24:22
off for so long. I know that's right.
01:24:25
And just imagine, you know what? And just thought, OK, I'm just
01:24:28
saying reading a certain amount of fan fiction or a certain
01:24:31
amount of smut is always better than any kind of visuals you can
01:24:36
have. So imagine this man is giving
01:24:39
her all this romance and that's her thing.
01:24:42
She's been building up. It's been a build up a town.
01:24:44
Like OK, so as soon as I get my hands on him, it's happening.
01:24:49
You know, you just had the fear that that he might have been
01:24:52
killed in action. Oh wow, you have the the
01:24:56
confirmation that he is alive, hold and all man.
01:25:00
Oh you going forward. Oh.
01:25:02
Yes, and then he's handsome. He he actually right.
01:25:06
Yes. Girl, you get the lottery.
01:25:08
And with a nice voice, you know, I haven't heard your voice yet.
01:25:11
Oh, yeah, that's that's a that's a voice that, you know, we'll
01:25:15
have panties dropping. So yeah, it's kind of like you
01:25:19
got the whole package. So Julia was probably like, yes,
01:25:21
OK, Yep. It's going down, it's going
01:25:24
down. So and you.
01:25:25
Know in her heart they were probably already married, you
01:25:28
know, to her, in her mind and his mind, they were like, we're
01:25:31
together, this is it for us. This is in game.
01:25:34
Yeah, you know, I mean, Oh yeah, that's such a romance.
01:25:40
I mean, in in those days, some people fell in love with less.
01:25:43
Yeah. Yeah.
01:25:45
So that is true. Yeah.
01:25:48
But I'm excited to see where their story is going to go.
01:25:52
Yes, definitely. Yeah.
01:25:54
But so of course, I have to mention it is August.
01:25:58
We are near Dragon Con time. And as I have for the last five
01:26:05
years now, there will be Outlander panels at Dragon Con.
01:26:09
I will be on both of them. There's one for the main show
01:26:12
and then there's one for Blood of My Blood, which I will be
01:26:15
moderating. So we will continue talking
01:26:18
about this show in this medium. And then also, if you're going
01:26:22
to be in Atlanta during Dragon Con weekend, there will be a
01:26:26
Blood of my blood and outlet of panel.
01:26:28
I will have all of the information on the show notes
01:26:32
for this episode and then you can also find it on our social
01:26:36
media, including our schedules. Anthony, Michelle, Mike and I
01:26:43
will all be on panels. And Dean, are you going to be on
01:26:45
any panels at Dragon Con 2? I don't know.
01:26:48
I haven't done, I haven't signed up for anything for Dragon Time.
01:26:53
Yeah, yeah, I'll be there and you know, I'll be in somebody'd
01:26:58
audience. Yeah, so if you happen to be a
01:27:01
