So it's been weird. We talked about it at

that we did. But other than that we haven't

really had a chance to talk about like the movies the books

is just hasn't come up. So yeah I'm glad we get a chance

So I was in Walmart. I think the Christmas break like

maybe a week or two before Christmas walking by and saw go

back buggy. And this thing was sitting in

top of the buggy and I picked it up and I was like oh this is

cool. Let me go see what else they

have. They didn't have any more in the

store so I ended up getting it. So you see this They're so cute

It's a this thing is like an 18 inch Harry Potter, seasonal

plush. So he looks like a Funko doll

with his big head was she and he's holding a red ornament, so

it's really, really cute. And I picked it up and carried

this thing around, like a baby, all through Walmart, and

couldn't find any others because I was looking up.

you know, I'm a Ron fan. So I was like they got to have a

run and see any other. So I was like, okay I'll take

carry home and hopefully next Christmas, they might have

It brought up some memories. He actually brought up some

The in talk about John Williams and music, but I know that that

wasn't the focus of the show, but I thought the music is as

much of a character as the characters, right?

And I think the music is just as much a part of the show as the

nostalgic journey. I feel like part of it was to

kind of deflect from some of the - that we here with not

necessarily Harry Potter fandom, but again, you know, mentioning,

she who must not be named and it surprised me that they had her

had clips of her even here and but they made sure they sit

film. So, my best friend and I, we

were Watching it at the same time.

She's in North Carolina. I'm here.

So we waited until we were both free so that we can watch it

together and like text back and forth.

And that was the one thing we both texted to each other.

the whole life thing which, you know, it's cool.

You know, we are grateful to her for creating this world that has

characters but for me it was more.

So the family that I found through Harry Potter like

several of my best. Friends, I found because of

My my first pay blogging gig and all this other stuff I had to do

with Harry Potter. So that's why I associate with

that more than you know, the other stuff we won't.

named and be done with it. I was saying how you and I met

because of Harry Potter, right? Yeah.

Well, we well, we work together first and then we kind of bonded

and got got closer or became more friends because of Harry

Potter, right? Yeah.

So and that's kind of happened with me with a couple of people

that I've worked with before, like, one of my best friends.

She and I Guy worked in the same office and we were cool.

And when I first started working at that office, when I went from

part-time to full-time and you know, got a cubicle to decorate.

I have I have some Harry Potter dolls that are actually in my
00:09:18
bedroom right now and I had them sitting on my desk and she
00:09:22
walked past my desk and she kind of stopped the she loved and she
00:09:24
was like, wait a minute. Are you a Harry Potter fan?

I was like, yes, she said that my distance.
00:09:29
She was like, girl, let's talk and literally that's how we
00:09:31
started our friendship, she and I went to our first Dragon Con
00:09:35
together, Because Matthew Lewis who plays Neville and James
00:09:39
Oliver Phelps who plays the twins were coming to Dragon Con.

So that was my introduction to DragonCon way back in 2007.

So I have a lot of good memories with the Harry Potter.

Yeah, because I remember you were in the media center and a

Michelle was like, oh you know, because I knew Mia because I had

substitute in her class and she was like oh her mom were some me
00:10:04
sooner. She's in the Harry Potter
00:10:06
because I I just started reading the books, right?
00:10:08
And I was a poet. So I went to the media center.

We started talking about here about this.

Yeah, because I knew you, but I didn't really know you until we
00:10:16
start on my best. Yeah, that was a fun time.

I loved working. I worked in Elementary media

center and I loved it. That was actually my
00:10:25
introduction to Harry Potter because I was in there all the
00:10:29
time and the kids would like we couldn't keep the Harry Potter
00:10:33
books on our shelves, like we had several copies of each.

Look, I think at that time, it was up to order of the Phoenix
00:10:41
and we couldn't keep him on the shelf.
00:10:44
And what happened was, one of the banks in our neighborhood,
00:10:48
gave a donation of books to our schools media center.
00:10:52
And as I'm going through cataloging the books, there was
00:10:55
a box set of the first five books.
00:10:58
So my supervisor at the time and also one of my mentors, he had
00:11:03
been trying to get me to read Harry Potter forever and I just
00:11:06
Wouldn't because at that time, I was just getting out of a church
00:11:11
situation that was kind of sort of cult and I've mentioned this
00:11:15
before in other podcast whatever.

But, you know, they were one of those that was kind of on the
00:11:20
fence or, you know, telling people that when you read stuff
00:11:23
with witchcraft it was anyway, you guys know where I'm going
00:11:27
with that. So I just never read the books
00:11:30
and being in there. I was like, okay, well I guess I
00:11:34
should take them home and Them. So he let me take the books home
00:11:38
before we ever put them on the shelf.
00:11:40
And I tell everybody people laugh at me when I tell them the
00:11:44
story. So I took the books home on a
00:11:46
Thursday. It was right before, spring,
00:11:48
break and 2005. I remember this because I was
00:11:52
like, okay, so I have these three days for this week spring
00:11:56
break was the following week, so I was like, okay, I have like 10
00:11:59
days to read these books. I was a pretty fast reader back
00:12:02
then. So I was like, okay, I can do
00:12:05
this. The books home on Thursday,
00:12:07
started with book one. I was finished with all five by
00:12:12
Sunday evening, three days, I read all five books and this is
00:12:16
with that was 2005 at that time at a three-year-old 27 year old
00:12:20
and nine year old sister I was like how in the world did you do
00:12:25
this? As a literally I took that book
00:12:27
everywhere I sat on the couch and I folded laundry I cooked
00:12:30
with it, I was in the bathroom with it.
00:12:33
I took a bath and I had a sitting on a stack light.
00:12:35
I took that back to Those books everywhere and and red.
00:12:38
So that was kind of how I got into it and then I joined a
00:12:42
message board. I'm dating myself now and join a
00:12:45
message board. And one of the, one of the chat
00:12:49
rooms for the message board was Harry Potter fans, 30 and over
00:12:52
and I was like wait there's more and got into it and it was like
00:12:57
at that point I think that chat room had like ten thousand
00:13:01
members. I was like wait what?
00:13:04
So that was kind of me dipping. My toe into the Harry Potter
00:13:07
universe and I still have friends from that initial chat
00:13:10
room that I'm friends with. Now that have surpassed, like
00:13:13
real life friends, some of these people I've never met in person,
00:13:16
some I have. So it holds a very special place
00:13:21
for me, in terms of that. And then I was going through a
00:13:24
lot, a lot of stuff personally at that time, too.

So it kind of helped me through some really, really dark
00:13:31
personal stuff. And this just kind of, you know,
00:13:36
Why it's still cemented in my heart as a fandom?

Like I haven't read the books in a long time.

I only watch the movie sporadically now, but I still

like feel so connected to this fandom and I'm sure you guys

have, like, maybe similar experiences.

I know, Anthony. And I we belong to an adult's HP

group here in Atlanta that we started going to.
00:13:56
Like I started going there and like 07 right after Dragon Con.

And Anthony started coming a little while after that he and
00:14:05
his wife. I think I think Michelle's been

to a couple meetings as well, right?

Yeah, one or two. Yeah.

Well that's you and we still have some good friends from a

like Dina and Adam and yeah, the nice whole bunch of people.

Yeah. A lot of fun people and I didn't

think like, for me getting into it.

Like I was always a reader and I just kind of like I'm not gonna

be here quality because that's that's kids books.

was not do. But I picked up Sorcerer's

Stone. I was like, oh my God, this is

you go through them fast. Well, they were easy reason

being. Once you get the Prisoner of

Azkaban, it's kind of, like, wait, this is, this is taking a

turn. But, you know, I went through a

pretty fast and are for me, it had stopped reading for the most

part up, until then, and You know, I don't know.

I don't remember I think because We you go to law school, you

read a lot, you read a lot and some of you then you don't want

to read any more right now is you have to write.

So giving back into it, I was like, oh my God, this is real

good. So he actually brought me back

to a passion that I had before. Yeah, reading fan.

It's not fantasy, but it felt like fantasy to me.

And it it rekindled that passion.

I have freedom because Michelle will tell you I Event.

I read all the time. Like, I couldn't stop reading.

Yeah, and it brought that back for me and then I didn't have a

lot of people hang out with. I didn't really hang out with

anyone until the HP. And I started hanging out with

you guys. And that was fun.

pretty much just watch the movies because think of that

is the one fandom where it's kind of a good dichotomy of what

a fandom is because it's such a diverse fandom.

Like, you know, I mean, they're from all walks of life, all

ages. I mean, you know, I think even

more so than a lot of other fandoms, this one is really more

diverse. Than a lot of them like

specially Marvel DC, probably like any other like fantasy

fandom like they they it is such a diverse and close-knit fandom

that you know, I mean it's like you can go to if you go to a con
00:18:25
and you see people in their robes, you're going to be like,

hey and it's like you'll start talking instantly.

It's not like people if you see like two people dressed up as
00:18:34
superheroes. I probably like oh cool.

And keep walking, but it's like most people it, I think I've
00:18:39
noticed, like people who like Didn't have never met the person

for to life if they're in the same if they're in the same
00:18:45
house they'll just is. So yeah StarTalk a girl.

Yes absolutely absolutely. And I think that's what's really

cool about the Harry Potter. Fandom is like there are no

strangers, right? Like there's no strangers in the

fandom, right? You see, we Vault where all

representing our houses, I've got on my hufflepuffs shirt,

Anthony has on a Ravenclaw shirt that his wife made for him and

Mike has got on his Ravenclaw head as well.

listening to the audiobook when Michelle was in graduate school

When they showed Hogwarts and started playing, I think it was

tearjerker moments, but I think my first thoughts when I watched

it the first time, I actually watched it, I've watched it

three times now, washed it once in New Year's Day, I watched it

once the next day, with my older daughter.

And then I Watched it just before we started recording

because I had some thoughts and I needed to kind of go back and

see if what I was remembering was correct.

But one of the first things that I noticed that kind of threw me

was that did it seem to you? Like for the most part, the

trio, filmed everything separately from everybody else.

Like they may have been there two different times.

Yes because, yeah, because it is interesting that the whole

that they kind of introduce the reviewing in show, was that you

kind of get an overview of London and then you see, like,

Emma in a bookstore, you see Robbie in a coffee shop and then

you see Matthew Lewis in a taxicab and at the stroke of

five, they all get Hogwarts letters you know with with the

address of where they are and it's inviting them to this.

Union Special. So you see Emma coming to the

Hogwarts Express. You see her greeting, who was

it? Evanna Lynch and Bonnie, right.

Luna, and Jenny on the train, you get to see like different

people coming into the Hogwarts Express.

You get to see Mark Williams, and James, Oliver Phelps, you

know, Weasley's boarding the train.

You see Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham, Carter, and different

things. So it's like you get to These

people arrive and then you see Emma arrived at Hogwarts and

this is where they're having like a Christmas ball kind of
00:22:37
your ball type thing. So you see her go to greet
00:22:39
different people like she sees Tom felt and she gives him a
00:22:42
hug, you see? Alfred Alfred Enoch.

I'm gonna always call him out feed, but he's a grown man now.

So, I have to remember our friend, I've noticed that when

he starred on how to get away with murder, I'm like he's not

Alfred, he's out feed em and he's gonna always be outfit and

then I have to remember that they're actually not that far
00:23:03
behind us in age like only 10 years.

So I'm like, okay, but anyway, so you get to see him and, you

know, you get to see all the different people like kind of
00:23:13
Milling together and talking with each other.

And then, as I was watching, I noticed that was like, wait a

minute. I said that means Emma was the
00:23:22
only person who interacted with the rest of the younger cast
00:23:26
because you never see, Daniel or Rupert.

With any of the others. And that was that was strange

for me. It was kind of sad too because I
00:23:35
was like it, we know that those main three are the stars of the
00:23:42
of the films. But you know, the friendships
00:23:46
with within the films with the characters were very important
00:23:50
and it just kind of felt a little off to me to not see them
00:23:53
interact. But then I thought about it, I
00:23:55
was like okay it does seem a little bit more formal with the
00:23:59
three of them. Them as opposed to with the
00:24:02
others. And it just, I don't know.

It felt weird, like I loved seeing the three of them
00:24:06
together, but something about that Vibe and then the vibe with

the rest of the people in the rest of the cast.

It was just, it just seems so different.

feels like a reunions. But at the same time it kind of

feels Like I said, that whole part of it feels weird, like,

friend group know me as the hugger.

I'm the one who? When I see you, if it's been a

long time, I have the joyous reaction.

haven't seen somebody that I care about for a long time and

you saw that with Emma and Tom, even though, you know, we'll
