On this episode of the FHP, Hanako and Kacey discuss episode three of the current season of The Walking Dead. The ambush by the Reapers (which Kacey and I erroneously keep referring to as Ravagers in the show – blame Marvel’s What If…?) leaves Maggie and her group scattered. After escaping to an abandoned mall, she is forced to work with Negan as Reapers leave some of her reunited group gravely injured. Back at Alexandria, Aaron and Carol disagree about what missions need to take priority for everyone’s safety. Magna, Carol, Kelly, and Rosita bond while searching for the community’s missing horses. Judith, RJ, Herschel, and Gracie reflect on their parents and their own experiences. Gabriel comes to a life-changing decision as he confronts one of the Reapers. Maggie and Negan are forced to leave Alden behind as they move forward with their mission to overtake Meridian.

read Replay the movie or the TV show in my head while I sleep,

so I don't do a lot of horror but of course is walking dead.

me almost an hour and a half to watch this episode.

So it's like I was there when they first started setting up

stuff. So it's really surreal to see

what it started as and then what it ended up as but when she Is

running in that mall and she was kind of going around the

expecting somebody to show up and when that rabid you finally

showed up behind her girl, I was like I said, y'all can't be

stressing me out. I'm not about to have no heart

problems over here, fucking with The Walking Dead, we just never

know. That's that old scary movie

thing where you turn the light on and they do when you flick

the lighter and he was behind her because it first Walker

scared the shit out of me when she lost the flashlight.

That were. So then when she, you know,

And then she turn that damn lighter on hill behind outside

But see the thing is I saw him like creeping up behind her even

before she turned the light on. Yeah, I miss because I was like,

I was like, oh man, you turn around back and turn around back

and turn around because she It literally just shown us the

viewers, how unstable those rails were like, literally she

she knocked the Walker over it and it fell down, you know, down

staircase. So we had just seen this house.

Like if he pushes her, it was chasing me so much in this

episode so much. But let's start at the top

Now I actually stayed up Night before trying to, you know, I

was like okay I'm a watch it when it first comes out and I

And then I remember where we left off in the last episode and

I was like, oh, it's some shit about to go down.

Now I knew it wasn't going to be any of our people but still, I

kind of like Maggie's people. Yeah.

And the fact that all of these people who were on this Mission

with her, none of her people made it out.

None of her people made it out. I was like, Okay.

Well, I'm glad it's none of our people.

Of course we don't know where Darrell is yet but we know

they're not killing Darryl, so he's safe but none of her people

made it now. So you know that's about to

weigh heavily on her to even though, you know, in the last
00:05:10
episode she was talking about how she had lost part of herself

and you know, how she had to adjust dealing with this new
00:05:18
world. And, you know, when the whole

thing with Gauge went down, it almost looked like, okay, Maggie

Kind of feeling. And I know she had to kind of
00:05:26
maybe give off a Torah so that she can get done what she needed

to get done. But we saw in this episode Megan

and is unaffected as she wants everybody to believe, right?

But this episode starting at the beginning, man.

So we pick up where we left off at the end of the last episode

with our group being attacked by the ravagers And there is so

much chaos. Everybody is running around.

People are fighting. People are getting stabbed shot

with arrows and all this other stuff.

Darrell had a near Miss Maggie's person, Cole the long-haired

guy. He's dead.

Duncan got hit with like three knives.

It's a lot to take that big dude down.

Yeah they knew 11 going to make it work.

Right Gabriel had the side of his next.

Okay. So I know I was kind of You

know, I had some words for by Gabriel in the last episode but

that don't mean I want him to die.

Right. So when that person has slashed

his throat, when I tell you, I wanted to come through this TV

going on in this scene and then I really like the way.

That they showcased Maggie in the same because she's on her

knees. And it's almost like, For her

everything is moving in fast motion or rather is moving in

normal time. But at the same time I feel like

she was looking at it as slow motion as well.

Just the way that they were kind of panning the camera around her

with this glow which was really weird and it had her kind of

ethereal like and I was like, okay Maggie can't be injured, or

Gravely injured and watching this go down I don't think

that's what this was but of Course, we just see that she's

kind of, it's like one of those things where she sees her whole

world falling apart in front of her, after everything, they just
00:07:34
went through, in the tunnels, to try to get everybody through
00:07:37
safely. This is what they walk into,

right? And there's just so much going

on Daryl and dog. Take off after one of the
00:07:46
ravagers. Maggie is there in the clearing
00:07:49
by herself for a moment and she's like I said, she's looking
00:07:54
around and There's one sneaking up behind her and she has picked

up Elijah's one of his pickaxe and she turns around and throws
00:08:05
that thing and it lands in the tree, right near the dude and he
00:08:08
looks and then when he turns around, she is gone.

I was like, oh, Maggie picking up some go skills here, but the
00:08:18
way the ravages of snatching, the way they snatched up Eliza
00:08:22
put that rope behind it, and you were gone.

Why I said the first five minutes when I sent you that

message I was like hey my like they were selecting folks off
00:08:32
the air and then when Cheryl she was left standing there all by
00:08:36
herself and nobody like everybody go.

Everybody go like not even know bodies is laying around that

And the way that when it comes back to Maggie, and she's all by

herself and she's Looking around, and no one is there.

almost got his face match when she threw that acts.

And as soon as he turned to look at and she was gone, she was

Yeah, that whole thing was interesting and then she picks

up. We see her walking through the

parking lot of an Bandon mall. Like I said, that sounds like

Mom to us and she goes into this place.

And again I'm she's by herself and she sneaks into this place.

She starts setting traps just in case someone follows her and

somehow they still got in. You know, I and I'm sure it's a

mall. So they probably came in through

another entrance, they probably hit, even maybe use that place,

right? But everything that went down in

that mall with, you know, we discussed it early on in,
00:09:56
Episode. We were just like, okay, let's

get this out. The way, the jump scares her

going through the corridors, and going through the stairwell
00:10:05
hearing the Walker. But not actually seeing where it

came from, or where it was coming from.

And then her going up the staircase, and then, you know,

kind of putting the flashlight down.

So she can see down into the stairwell.

I was so expecting for an arrow to come up at her or I will Is

just after that episode I was just at this point, I'm just

expecting anything. I really thought she was going

to look down and there was going to be a whole bunch of ravagers

like just coming up the staircase behind her.

That's just what I was expecting.

I was like okay y'all giving me too many horror movie Vibes and

I'm thinking like the scream person is going to come around

with his little mask around the corner and just oh, I was just

Like you said, one of them sneaks up behind her, she fights

him and she actually knocked him over the rail.

So Betty by to him I was like, okay.

And then you see her sitting there because they have now made

it up a few more flights. You hear her?

Sing her standing there. Waiting for the food, right?

I want to make sure he's dead. Like he can't come back up the

stairs after me that part because, you know, yes, the

movies that we tend to watch, you know, somebody would have

grabbed hold of a rail, been able to like lift themselves

over came back after her. But you know this this Echoes.

This is going to sound real weird.

Yeah. And it's weird because we're

talking about a zombie apocalypse so but she met Her

way into a part of the mall where you know, there's like a

couple of things that have been left behind like some

mannequins, I think a desk and stuff like that and as she's

walking, she comes across Alden. Who has also sought refuge in
00:12:15
the mall and then as they come across each other saying that,

okay, it's a friendly face. They get attacked by two other
00:12:23
ravagers and I mean they are fighting it.
00:12:26
It out, you know, all and gets attacked.
00:12:30
Then somebody comes after Maggie and Mac is quick on her feet.

I'm noticing that she thinks quickly.
00:12:35
Like, I don't know what kind of training she's been doing, but

she's been dodging, some very, very close calls.

But the one thing I don't like about these two ravagers, they
00:12:47
have both of Elijah's. I don't even know what you call
00:12:51
them. They're not a pickaxe but you
00:12:52
know his his cookie thingies. Yes.

Whatever they're called. Yeah, and you know, the funny

thing is, I'm going to remember what they're called after this
00:13:04
episode, but I have to think about it right now.

Absolutely. So that bothered me because that

maybe means that Elijah's dead as well.

And the one thing, one thing I don't like about this show is

that they introduce characters to us and they and I know that's

probably what the nature supposed to be, because this is

what probably happens in these kinds of circumstances.

Dances in Wartime. And, you know, when you're in an

area that's been ravaged and random people can come together,
00:13:35
partner up to kind of survive and you get to know these people
00:13:40
and then they just snatch him away from you.

Like, Elijah has so much potential coming into the season

because everybody was like, hold up, who is the masked ninja,

dude? And now, it looks like he might

be gone because these two ravagers have they each have one

of his weapons. Ying go.

Help me, find anyone, I know, but as the, the ravager that's

fight and Maggie gets ready to push this thing into her.

She is able to kind of kick him off of her.

She grabs a bottle that's kind of laying a little bit of ways

from her. She breaks it and then she digs
00:14:14
it in his head and even as he injured, he's trying to lift up
00:14:20
one more time so that he can try to stab her and here comes Megan
00:14:23
from the back, but then I tell you in the last episode, he's to
00:14:26
save her. He's gonna save her absolutely
00:14:29
has to. Yeah, I mean, I think at this
00:14:31
point, it's just one of those things where, okay, lesser of
00:14:34
two evils, I would rather deal with her, then I would rather
00:14:38
deal with them and he says, is much later on in this scene
00:14:42
because after he saves her, they realize that Alden is hurt and
00:14:47
as they go to try to help him, they realize that there's
00:14:50
something about to be set off. I thought it was a bomb in first
00:14:53
girl. When I tell you, that thing went
00:14:54
off, I started screaming on Mike I was like, I didn't know, know
00:14:59
what the fuck then I realized it was it was a smoke bomb.

I was like okay he's not dead cuz I'm just I'm not ready to

say goodbye to any of them at this point.

we see that Maggie's not as unaffected as she claims because

if you think about You know, all the Miss hurt, probably Gravely

yet she still makes the decision that, okay?

We need to pick him up and take him, we need to leave.

And Negan is like, wait, are you still talking about?

We keep on going and she's like, yes, we need to get that food

back to Alexandria and he's like, even neither has his

stopping point, right? He's like these people are

crazy. They just showed you that

they're crazy, and you still want to go fight them.

And she's like, look, look, we need that food for Alexandra.

You got a better plan and he's just looking at her.

She was like, yeah, that's what I thought he had now.

This time he don't right, and the thing is, it's not it's not

even combative. Like he's trying to be, I won't

say the reasonable. Well, yeah, he's trying to be

the reasonable voice and just like he said, he said, I know

theatrics, these people just told us exactly how in saying

they are. We can't be on the road.

we've talked about this, we've been going back and forth about

the whole morality issue when it comes to Negan and what he did

and how Maggie is reacting to him and everything else.

So one of the things that made nigun a good leader, I won't say
00:17:25
he was great. But Again, he had thousands of
00:17:28
people in his community and for the most part, he kept them safe
00:17:33
because he had rules and he enforce those rules, okay?

And one of the things about Negan is, sometimes you have to
00:17:43
sacrifice. Yep.

In order to keep things moving along in order to keep things
00:17:49
going. And I think that's one of the
00:17:50
things that we we slowly start to learn as we see him and
00:17:54
Maggie, kind of go back. Can force a little bit more.

Niggas whole thing was and all this says is later on an episode

when they're talking his whole thing was, yeah, we had to get

shit done now, if I had to kill one person to make a point to

get everything done to get everybody to fall in line, then

that's what I did. And again we can see here and

talk morals and ethics and right or wrong all we want to the

rules are going to change. Somewhat slightly, when you're

in the situations that they are in my, especially considering

you have to think about it. Laura, was there with Negan the
00:18:35
whole time and if you remember the, here's Negan episode
00:18:39
Laura's father was the doctor that had the Mobile Medical
00:18:44
unit. That nigga was trying to get the
00:18:46
chemotherapy from any. And in that episode, we saw that
00:18:51
there were some bad people, they captured Negan.
00:18:54
They found out where the doctor was, They took him, they beat
00:18:58
him. We can only imagine what they
00:19:00
did to lower because you could kind of hear a little bit of it
00:19:04
on the trailer when Negan left to go.
00:19:06
Try to take the chemotherapy medicine to Lucille, you know,
00:19:09
we can hear what was going on whether she was just being
00:19:12
beaten, whether she was being raped, whatever the case may be.
00:19:15
Now at some point, he did come back after Lucille died because
00:19:20
he wanted to kill the person who kept him from getting the
00:19:23
medicine to her. And that's where we kind of I
00:19:26
started to see the shift from him, but whatever he had to do
00:19:30
at that point, we know Laura stayed with him and it didn't
00:19:33
look like she stayed with him like she's being forced to stay
00:19:36
with him. So at some point I'm assuming
00:19:39
and we kind of get a little bit of the back story throughout the
00:19:43
last few seasons. But we know that there was
00:19:45
another group that was in charge of the sanctuary and basically
00:19:48
million had to fight the leader of the group in order to become
00:19:52
the leader of the savior's. So there Some leadership
00:19:57
qualities in him. He knows how to make decisions
00:20:00
that will benefit the larger group.

Yeah, the thing is, Maggie knows how to do that, too.
00:20:08
And it's almost like their roles have kind of reversed, and
00:20:13
that's not saying that Negan is becoming a good person and
00:20:15
Maggie is becoming a bad person. No, it's just that.

Now, we're being put in the position where we see they are
00:20:22
two sides of the same coin in some ways.

Like there are times you have to make really, really crappy
00:20:29
decisions. In order to keep everybody safe.

That's what Maggie had to do with Gage, but at the same time,
00:20:37
Alden is a resource. And that's one of the things,
00:20:40
you know, I was going back and looking at some of the clips

from Negan, especially after last week's episode, we were
00:20:46
talking about the confessions with him and father, Gabriel.
00:20:50
One of the things Negan has always said, is, people are
00:20:53
resource nigga doesn't kill people needlessly.

Learn Cuz people are resource to him, right?
00:20:59
I think Maggie has a little bit of the same thought process.

If not in the same way, you know, because Gage would have
00:21:07
been a drain on them. He had already proved that he
00:21:09
was a coward. He had already proved that he

would have left them to die. If given the chance, if, you
00:21:16
know, if it came to a choice, like if either, one of them was
00:21:19
on the other side of that wall or that door, he would look into
00:21:24
He probably would have left them too but the difference is he
00:21:29
would have left somebody that actually contributed to the
00:21:32
survival of the group, right? And he was not that and I
00:21:36
understand 100%, why Maggie made the decision that she did?

Was it pretty? No.

Was it necessary? Probably great.

Same thing here with Alden, she's not willing to leave him
00:21:49
behind because Alden has contributed even Remember all
00:21:55
that used to be a savior. He was one of the people when
00:21:58
they got captured and was brought to Hilltop, he was the
00:22:02
one that was kind of pleading with Maggie.
00:22:03
And Maggie was very nasty to him at that time and she fought him
00:22:08
every step of the way he was trying to broker.
00:22:11
Peace between his group of Saviors and her people and even
00:22:16
when she was mean to him, when she was nasty to him, and she
00:22:19
had every right to be at that point, right?
00:22:22
He still didn't change. And I think she eventually saw
00:22:25
that in him and as we've seen Alden kind of grow with the
00:22:29
community. He is a resource.
00:22:32
She can't just leave him behind like that.
00:22:34
But yeah, so Maggie's going to have to make a decision with all
00:22:38
them because we see his hurt and we see that it's not a simple
00:22:45
injury because later on they get cornered by some Walker's.

Now Alden, here's the thing, he can still fight but we see that
00:22:53
it is One point, she's going to have to make a decision but
00:22:56
before we get to those kind of tough things, I have to say best
00:23:02
part of the episode. We finally got to see the kids
00:23:06
interact. That was the best part of the
00:23:10
episode and ain't a smart. They know what the hell's going
00:23:13
on here, they come okay. Children, but here's the thing,

the to it's not even necessarily in An adult conversation they
00:23:25
were kids talking like kids. Because think about it, when you

were a kid and your mom told you this that and the other you go

to your friends, man, my mama made me sick, she keep telling

me that out of their shell. My was she talking about?

Because, of course, it's seven, eight, ten year olds, we know

everything right, but just being able to see Judith and RJ and

Herschel, and Gracie, having fun being kids, they're sitting

there playing card games. Hershel is talking, I was so

glad to hear more than Whereas come out of his mouth.

It's like finally we're going to some conversation between them.

We get to hear RJ talk a little bit.

Yeah, it was fun but yeah, they did have a conversation where,

you know, Herschel a student. He says, do you ever worry about

your mom when she goes away? And Judas, like, I'm used to it.

She says, grown-ups are always running off doing things and

this she makes these little funny promise to see you soon.

This part of the episode made me so happy.

But then Herschel he says, that's the kind of stuff that

used to say in the olden times, right?

I was like, excuse me sir, we are not that old.

I understand. This is the only world that, you

know, but this apocalypse is 19 years old back in.

With my mom was a kid right four score and seven.

Here's why we are not that old boo, but you do see a little bit

more maturity with Herschel because you have to think about

it. He's been with Maggie this whole

time. So chances are, he's had to see

a lot of the stuff that she's had to do especially when you

think about the story that she told about the guy.

I mean, I'm pretty sure there might not have been a very good

way for her to keep that from him.

So you No, we get a little wisdom from him, you know, they

can't promise it now, but they say it anyways.

And Judas says, they just don't want us to think they're not
