Let’s try this again…

new-year-1.jpg*crawls out of hiding* Happy New Year!

If you didn’t already know, writer’s block is a bitch.

It’s a funny thing to consider yourself a writer, but being unable to write. Aside from the one post earlier this year at the passing of Richard Hatch, I have not touched this blog since before last year’s Dragon Con. Writing has always been a source of comfort and refuge for me, but the past 12 months? Nope. Even now, I am struggling just to get this small little post out, but I know that once I do I can get out of this writer’s purgatory I’ve been in and get back to having fun with my words.

2017 was a weird year for me in a lot of ways. I didn’t have the energy (or time, really) to write like I wanted, but I did find myself doing things I should have been writing about. Fandom-wise, it was a great year for me: I got to meet a long-time favorite (Ming-Na Wen, at both Dragon Con and Heroes & Villains Atlanta conventions), I found a new obsession (the Outlander series – TV show and books), and I got to go to three conventions this year (CONjuration, in addition to the aforementioned conventions). I sat on five different panels this year at Dragon Con, talking about shows that I have only recently gotten in to (Arrow, Riverdale), as well as my usual HP stuff. I did get some podcasting done this year with the SFPL crew, although not as much as I would have liked.

I would like to get more done in 2018, including keeping this blog going and up-to-date. I really did figure that with all of the entertainment sites, bloggers, vloggers, etc., that my little page wouldn’t be missed at all, but in the past few weeks I have had people asking me to come back to it for 2018. To those of you who have kept in touch and expressed interest in my thoughts, thank you. A little encouragement is a great motivator.

So here’s the first of what I hope will be many post updates for 2018. In the next few days, I will sum up some fandom moments that were my favorite new obsessions (hello. Outlander!) and some that I did not care for (WTH, The Walking Dead! CARL?!?!?!). Looking forward to the talks and debates we will have this year. If there’s anything you’d like to hear my thoughts on, let me know! Happy New Year!
