Dragon Con is almost here.
It’s Wednesday evening and even now, as I sit in the lobby of the mostly empty Hyatt Regency, there are congoers already sitting at the bars, freely roaming the halls and walking around exhibiting pre-con excitement. By this time tomorrow, five hotels in the Downtown Atlanta area – the Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton and Westin – will all be full of most of the 62,000 people anticipated to attend this year’s Dragon Con, which officially begins on Friday.
Dragon Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science ficion and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film. It takes place every Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, and has something for everyone. This year, the celebrity guest list comes close to the 400 mark and includes stars from hit TV shows such as current favorites Game of Thrones, Sleepy Hollow, Arrow, The Flash, and Once Upon a Time; past shows such as True Blood, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek and Buck Rogers; films such as Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Harry Potter, voiceover artists from various cartoon and anime projects; popular book authors and much more. The convention will features fan panels, celebrity Q&A’s, photo ops (celebrity, fan and cosplay), a Walk of Fame (where you can meet the celebrities and purchase autographs), vendor space, parties, and more.
Tickets to Dragon Con are still available at the door. Registration is held at the Sheraton Atlanta hotel.
