Garrett Wang named as Director of Trek Track for DragonCon

Wow. When I first saw this announcement on DragonCon’s home page, I really, really thought that I was reading it wrong. But I wasn’t: Garrett Wang, who starred in the ST: Voyager series as Ensign Harry Kim, has been named the programming director of the Trek Track. Here is a small sample of the press release, as it is listed on DragonCon’s website:

“Garrett Wang, best known for his role as Ensign Harry Kim in Star Trek: Voyager, has accepted the position of director of Trek Track. In his seven seasons on the popular series, Mr. Wang became a fan favorite as the clarinet-playing operations officer of the USS Voyager. A science fiction fan as well as a Star Trek insider, Mr. Wang will bring a fresh perspective to this year’s programming.”

I remember back when I had my first apartment, my roommate Keisha and I would sit hang out every night in front of the tv, watching Designing Women and Star Trek: Voyager…we both had the biggest crush on Harry Kim. Maybe now I can convince her to brave the crowds and come back to DragonCon this year…

In addition to Mr. Wang, several other cast members from Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: The Next Generation have been confirmed as guests this year. The list includes:

From Star Trek: Voyager

  • Robert Duncan McNeill (Lt. Tom Paris)

From Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

  • Avery Brooks (Captain Benjamin Sisko)
  • Rene Auberjonois (Odo)
  • Armin Shimerman (Quark)

From Star Trek: The Next Generation

  • Jonathan Frakes (Commander Will Riker)
  • Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi)
  • John DeLancie (the character Q)
  • Denise Crosby (Lt. Tasha Yar)
  • Brent Spiner (Data)

The list of all DragonCon guests can be found here.
